Smile What do boys wear to football homecoming dances?

We don't have football in our town. But one of DS's girl friends has asked him to go with her. I'm not sure if they do tux's or a suit. I can't even remember back to when I went to school what we all wore. I told him to ask her what kind of dress she was wearing. Meaning, was she wearing a formal dress or a nice "cocktail" dress. Well, the only thing he remembers that she told him is that is comes mid calf and it's black. So it kinda sounds like a suit will work. Maybe I should just call the school and ask them. He wants to wear dress pants and a dress shirt, and will consider wearing a tie.

Also, just thought of this. I need to order a corsage for the little girl right. Geesh, I've been outta school to long!!

When we'd dress for homecoming, in the late '90s, we'd wear semi-formal dresses (nice, but not overboard with sequins or satin and usually knee or tea length). And the teachers would tell the boys to dress like they were going to a funeral and add a tie! Some boys would wind up wearing a muted red (red and black were our school colors) button up collared shirt with black slacks and a belt with nice dress shoes. And some of the boys would match their shirts with the color of their dates dresses.

Just ask the girl what she's wearing and if he's still confused, then ask her what she'd like him to wear. Never hurts to ask and it's always considerate. HTH

Here it is basically dress pants and shirt with tie. Occasionally some will wear suits. But he should try to dress to match the formality of what his date will be wearing (usually Homecoming for girls is semi-formal here so mini-to knee length dresses with occasional calf-length)

Dress pants, dress shirt and tie, here too. The boys choose colors to match/complement the girls' dresses. Gotta look good for pictures.

Hope he has a great time!

Thanks everyone. He is very much relieved, he wasn't looking forward to wearing a full out suit.

Geez, here the guys just wore Khaki's and polo shirts or button up shirts. No ties, suits or anything. My DS went with about 12 other guys & equally as many girls and all the guys dressed the same.

Not really. I think dressing up would be more appropriate like a nice dress shirt and a pair of slacks and some nice shoes. That's all it takes and you should look great.

Here it's anything goes, only the kings and queens dress up, everyone else wears jeans, as they come directly from a basketball ball game. Prom is where everyone does the fancy dresses and tuxes.
