Do you wish you had a farm?

I really just want about five acres. I am tired of living in a subdivision. We do live in a comfortable one, not many deed restrictions, but only .46 acre. Everyone seems to know my business and I know theres. My dream is that in a couple of years we could buy a little land and rebuild, I want a flower farm or nursery. I don't want to raise animal, I have no idea how to do that, well, maybe chickens.

I have always wanted to live on a farm -- but I don't want to do the work involved in actually running a farm. I just want to enjoy the benefits of country living without the work --- or the smell!

I don't, but my husband does. He still thinks we are eventually moving to one in a few years. However, he has been thinking that for over 10 years now and we still haven't bought one, thank goodness....I am a city girl!

Can you have a greenhouse or a mini greenhouse on your property? This may be something you could enjoy til you make the big move.

I would love to own a farm. We have every intention of doing so in time. I hate living were I can hear my neighbors argue. Plus if I feel like walking outside in my pj's I want to do it, here I can't . My kids would love it. Right now we pay a yearly fee just to ride the atv's and buggies on a lot of acreage.

I want an old two story farm house with around 30 acres. That would make me very very happy.

I would love a farm to but I dont think we will ever move from here. Our neighbors are wonderful and our kids love it here.
I dont have a *real* reason to move except my longing for lots of land.
My aunt has 88 acres and leases it out to other farmers to plant/harvest on . They basically maintain her land.

I like the idea of living on a farm, but I do believe it would be high maintenance; too much work. Maybe a large acreage would be better.

We don't, but are considering it. DH want to, but I am the one holding back, mainly because our house here will be paid off in less than 7 years, we just had our pool built 4 years ago, he says we can build another pool and I'm like if we have to have a big mortgage we won't be able to afford a pool, etc. Right now we live, in a small town (pop 1200) which is 25 miles away from a larger town where we work (so 50 miles roundtrip for each of us) and he wants to move farther out, with the price of gas and a higher mortgage with the economy the way it is and our house paid off in less than 7 years. I would prefer to wait and see what happens with the economy. Plus I hate the thought of moving. I would like more space, we currently only have 1800 sq feet on 5 lots and no garage, but the thought of a new mortgage, eeek. Plus we only have one child left at home now, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, so it's not like we really NEED more space, we don't. Anyway, it's something we have been discussing for a couple of years now. Our small town is out in the middle of nowhere, we don't even have a grocery store or doctors office or anything like that just a few small businesses maybe 10 or so and a post office.

I live on a 10 acre farm! I only rent the house, the owner has breeding cattle and he mows the lawn and plows the snow! ! so I have the best of both worlds! just picked apples in my yard in my pjs! its quit and beautiful but also has its down sides such as lots of bugs and other critters invade your home on a regular basis! plus the cow smells and at times lots of moooing! and during the winter we often don't get the road plowed by the county for several days!

I might like a small farm where we could raise a few goats, a couple of cows, and maybe a few chickens. I just think it would be awesome to be able to make my own goat's milk soap and cheeses-and of course, have milk and eggs available.

Our family says we should live on a farm so I could have all the animals I want. We recently had 2 of our dogs put down, so our 'zoo' was getting smaller, but one of our bunnies had 7 babies last Thursday, so it's growing again......

Anyone want a baby bunny? They will be ready in about 7.5-8 weeks.

No way!

I grew up in the country - not on a farm, but rural with land...dogs, cats, chickens & horses. We didn't have cable or delivery pizza. I married a city boy and I love my subdivision with a very active HOA and lots of restrictions! We won't live anywhere where there aren't restrictions to keep our neighborhoods up.

I cant even think about living in a housing developement or in town!
I was raised 27 miles from the nearest town. we had to to take a cooler in the summer with us to the grocery store. only went one time a week. my mom stockpiled stuff so if we ran out, we had it in the basement. we now live on 5 acres, have a huge garden each yr, can and freeze stuff. just this past sat. I got high speed net!!!!!!!!!! we live on a mt and it wasnt offered here till recently. we have to have sat. dish or not t.v. very rural area here. neighbors have free range chickens. we dont do farm animals cause we both work and not here to care for them the way they need caring for. but when we retire, we will have. ( for me, that 4 yrs!! I will be 51 yrs old!!!!! cant wait)
I just cant even think about living somewhere where I own the property but some housing group tells me I cant have a cloths line on the property I bought and paid for. Or that I cant park our rv in our own yard.
The condos my sister lives in dont allow storage bldgs , cloths lines and there is a whole list of stuff they cant have. Thats something that makes no sense to me. she bought it and paid for it. why do they have the right to tell her what she can and cant have. Thats why I would never live somewhere where there is rules like these.

Yes and I do!! We have a cattle (club calves) farm, where we breed and raise out 4H projects. Our youngest DS does pigs as well for 4H.

Right now we live on 10 acres, have 21 head of cattle, 16 laying hens/25 broilers and 2 hogs. We also own 100 acres that's used strictly for crops.

I honestly have the best of both worlds. We are the closest farm to the city AND are only 2 houses outside of the city-limits! Takes a mere 2 minutes to "the city"!

i live on 2 acreas, but have 30 acreas around me that are my parents, and the rest of the 60 are owned by my family.

IT is wonderful, it takes me 30 minutes to get to work, but i love my home.

we have 2 donkeys, 3 dogs between me and my parents,

i am working on getting some goats eventually.

we do have cows, but their my cousins.

we can go riding our 4 wheelers anytime, we deer hunt,

it is nice. i am 30 minutes from the city , both directions. 10 mintues from the interstate.

wouldn't change it a bit.

Nope. It's nice to visit but no way would I want one. I am a city girl! I am also allergic to most animals so that makes it an easy no as well. I love the "look" of farms as we drive by them on the way to Denver . What I get sick of is people who want to turn the subdivisions into "mini farms" so to speak. Many towns have ballet issues to allow chickens and roosters in their backyards. It is allowed in my town but blocked by our HOA (and I am glad that it is...chickens make me sneeze something horrible!). I guess my way of thinking is that if you want *farm life*, live in the country. A garden is one thing but chickens and a coop? I guess I am in the minority in this way of thinking (since the initiatives are getting passed in towns).

I guess I live on a farm, but I never really considered it that. We have 18 acres and a large pole barn. We have 2 mini-donkeys (see avatar), 2 horses, 3 cats, and 2 dogs. We are 1/4 mile from the main road and you can't see our house from the road. I live in a small town but I am literally 3 minutes from my son's school. The nearest shopping center is only 10 minutes from here. My kids can go out an play and I don't have to worry about cars. We bought the house for the location but the house needed some TLC. We are about 2/3 through a major renovation and it really looks nice. We have a garden in the summer and tons of room for the four wheeler's and snow mobiles.

We have a llama farm near us. The llamas are pretty and very friendly. The owners make yarn from them. We also have a pig farm, and a 'standard' type farm closeby. We are in a subdivision in a rural area. It is a nice idea to me, but I know for a fact that I could not keep up with all the work involved and be happy. Also, I would worry constantly about the animals- would probably want to bring them all in in the winter.

When we had our horse, I so wished that we had acreage instead of having to do private boarding. However, I feel that while I would still love to have acreage and have horses again..right now the time that needs to be invested would not work out with how much dh and I work.

We have a small farm, 5 acres, we maintain about half that, the neighbor uses one of our lots for farming hay & another his cows graze on, back far enough that farm "smell" isn't an issue. We have a a barn with 2 pygmy goats. A veggie garden that was horribly neglected this year..and lot & lots of flower beds. We do love it! But yes, lots of bugs & allergies are higher here because of the land. Takes about 4 hours to mow on a rider..which I should work on tomorrow.

We have kind of a "farmette", and raise chickens, and a huge garden. We have grown and put up most of the food we will need for the next year. I wont eat my chickens, we just eat their eggs, so a pig or beef cow would be out of the question (I cant eat something I raised). I would love to have a milk goat for milk and cheese, but I have to talk dh into it.

I'm so jealous, my heart's been yearning for this for a little while now. I would love 5-10 acres 5 minutes outside of town. I'd love to be able to pick apples in my PJs.... or better yet, blueberries. I'd love to have a vegetable garden (and not worry about going to prison for killing some SOB for stealing the fruits of my labor). I've even thought I might like to have a few chickens..... and maybe even some honey bees. I'd love to not see or hear my neighbors.

We live on 10.6 acres of the original family farm. To the east is a pond that is the border between our land and the neighbors. To the west is a large field. We can't see either of our neighbors because there are many full grown large trees. In the winter we can see the roof of the house to the east.

While we don't have any domesticated animals we do have a flock of wild turkeys, lots of bunnies, deer and tons of songbirds which we feed in the winter. Plus we put up lots of bird houses.

We have very large garden patches. And could plow up more if we wanted to. The neighbor to the west keeps horses, thoroughbreds for racing, lots of them. People pay him to keep their horses. I love to walk down the road in the spring and see the little ones that have just been born in the fields.

We are about 180 feet from the road so we don't hear too much traffic. We have a huge oak that is our shade to the west of the house. The house is small, a 26 year old double wide. No basement, attic or garage. We do have a storage shed and a larger shed that my hubby built for his "stuff".

It is beautiful in the fall with the brilliant oranges, reds, greens, yellows of the trees. I love this place even though the house is no palace. I do praise the Lord for His goodness to us in allowing us to live here.

One relative has a dairy farm, and two others have cattle ranches. It is A LOT of work, although I would love to have all kinds of animals.

I live on a dairy farm. It is no picnic. The cows must be milked twice daily, 365 days a year. Things are always breaking down, cows getting sick, etc. I would love to sell and get out but this farm is Dh's life.

Absolutely not! I can't stand the 2 acres we have, I wouldn't want any more.

The snakes around here are just too much for me to handle.
