Exclamation Countrywide Alerts Customers to Ex-Employee Selling Customer Info

CFC Customers learn of information breach: Countrywide Financial: Ex-worker might have sold account details.

Attention all Countrywide customers. I received my letter yesterday informing me that a former employee stole our personal information (including SS numbers, etc.) and sold them to a third party. Countrywide is sending out letters to all affected customers. When I got the letter, it honestly looked like junk mail and I almost just tossed it. It still didn't look right, but now since I've googled it, I see that it is true.

Countrywide is offering two years of free credit monitoring services (that's all?). Hmmm... and what are we to do about it after the two years?? I haven't called Countrywide yet but from what I'm reading online, people like me are really upset about this and how casually Countrywide is treating this.

So what would you do? I'm sitting here trying to figure it all out in my head. And honestly asking what's the best route to take on this.

EDITED to add: OK. I went online and signed up for the free two -year monitoring. BUT it only gives my husband's SS number the protection! I'm trying to get in touch with Countrywide now about my SS number because mine is in the information, too.

We are a Countrywide customer in Washington state and have not heard of this before coming here. Thank you for posting this! I will look into getting credit monitoring on our own. This is a great reminder of how fast things can happen to affect us all.

Like I said, I almost threw our letter in the trash. It honestly looked like the junk mail you get from them. And at first I thought they were trying to get us to sign up for 'free' credit monitoring. You might want to give them a call Monday morning just to be sure.
