Ours in our area is going up, too. Yesterday the price went up 20 cents. My son who is in law enforcement on the coast called me yesterday and said they had been told that due to Hurricane Ike, the prices could go up as much as 50 cents to a $1.50 more!! So he sort of gave us a 'heads up' and we went and filled our tanks before the price hike hits.

This makes me furious because the price of oil is DOWN to $100/barrell. Looks like price gouging to me.

Yes, because of the hurricane they are having to shut down production in the gulf and also shut down the refineries on the coast. So a cut in production and in the refining process. Hopefully there will be no damage, if there is damage the higher prices will not be temporary, they will last longer. Gas prices were down here to $3.34 earlier in the week.

DS came home from a soccer game last night and said the gas station lines were out in the road. They even had cops there directing people to pumps. Several stations had ran out of gas here. He had heard rumors at the game that gas was going up $1.50 by this morning. Guess what they haven't changed at all!!

I think panic more than anything was what was going on last night. DS said one of his friends parents filled up and then filled up 5 portable gas thingys.

Edited to add the link to last nights news story about this: Long Lines At Gas Stations - NewsChannel 6 WPSD while I was there I also saw this that the governor is doing KY Governor Beshear Takes Action Against Gas Gouging - NewsChannel 6 WPSD

I can understand that with Ike the refineries are shutting down production, etc but the gas we are buying today was already through there. If say, next week the prices had jumped up some, I wouldn't have been so frustrated. But it is ridiculous. The oil companies have been feeding us this bologna since Katrina and we have no choice but to pay it and go on. It certainly goes up and lot faster than it goes down.

It went up .30 since this morning. The western part of MI has gas at $5 per gallon already. I saw on gas buddy that few stations over there had it for $5.89-$5.99 per gallon.

Gas here is at 3.69, it was 3.39 yesterday.

Some stations are closed as of tonight because they are out of gas.

Hey girl!! You would happen to be in West Tennessee would ya? I'm in Western Kentucky but we are close enough to the line that it may be cheaper to drive a little.
