The King of the Castle is resting in peace

AS you all now my oldest cat Shadow was diagnosed with intestinal lymphoma back in July, I had hoped he would make it to his 14th birthday at Christmas, it wasnt to be. What i witnessed yesterday still has me in tears he was in such pain and I dont think he knew who I was.

Here is what I posted on my blogs about him:

Yesterday September 13th our Shadow kitty the "King" of the house passed away from intestinal lymphoma. He was diagnosed July 26th but had been sick since January of this year.

He was a Russian Blue and this was the hardest cat to lose ever he had been here the longest and he was my "Son" gotten for me on my birthday in 1995 when he was a mere 12 week old little grey kitten originally named "Grey Ghost" but re-named when he constantly followed our Turkish Angora Sheba everywhere.

Shadow was a patient cat, how he put up with Stefan crawling as a baby pulling his tail and not biting him I will never know. When Stefan started to walk Shadow became his walker, you would see Stefan holding onto Shadow's tail for dear life to hold himself upright and he never batted an eye, growled or hissed at that little boy. Shadow loved all.

Shadow put up with the Iguana's chasing him, the ferrets too. Lord knows how many kittens and cats we have rescued over the years, but he was the first one to welcome them into the home and show them the ropes of where everything was and he never ever fought with any of them ever unless they started it and then he fought back and always won after all he was the King of our castle and our castle is so very empty right now.

Cammie our calico joined us about 18 months after Shadow and she is inconsolable right now as am I she has been searching for him and crying out something I have never heard from her in almost 12 years.

Shadow was fine Friday and early Saturday he was up on the desk helping me surf the net, he got sick as he does with the cancer and I just cleaned it up and about 5 am I went back to bed. I got back up about 8 am he was on the couch laying down seemed fine to me 11 am I noticed his head hanging over the end of the couch which was odd went over to pick him up and he couldnt stand or control his movements. Called the vet and I held him and loved him until he was gone about 1 pm. The vet said the neurological symptoms set in so fast as they sometimes do he was so very tired when we got him there he was ready to go and as he drifted off into sleep he looked so peaceful and happy and purred the whole time. He was in pain I know he was before but I know now, he and Sheba, Snowball, Smokey and Petu are all over that Rainbow Bridge healthy and happy enjoying a pain free life.

RIP my Shadowlito Mommy misses you !!!

Shadow James ~ 12/25/1994 to 9/13/2008

I also posted two pictures of him if they are too large mods please remove them or edit them so they are clickable i cant seem to think straight to do it

To those who asked about him through PM's since I posted about his illness Thank you your message were always very heartfelt and uplifting to me.

I think Shadow waited until we got back from Florida with all the problems with my Mom to say goodbye I am Thankful I got the last few months with him and got to be by his side when he crossed over I miss him he is hard to miss he was always at my feet or next to me and the new kitten is nothing like him and he is going to be hard to replace if I ever can.

I am so sorry for the loss of your Shadow. I know what you are going through. It gets easier but you still never forget and there is always an empty space in your heart.

Losing a beloved pet is one of life's most heartwrenching moments.
You wrote a wonderful tribute to an obviously tremendous cat.
I am sorry for your great loss.

Oh, sorry about your kitty. They really are family, aren't they??? DS has a cat, I have never seen one like it....she follows him everywhere, and sits in the middle of the floor whining if she can't find him. She's so cute, seems to know his routine, too.....and when he strays from it, she's whining.....

I hope someday you'll be able to get another kitty. There are so many that need loving homes.

I am writing this with tears in my eyes. I am so sorry. It is so devestating to lose a cat/family member. I know it all too well. We went through this not to long ago and it is hard. Its been a while now and I still break into tears some days. It gets better but I still feel a hole in my heart. Hugs.

What a cutie. My thought and prayers are with you. We had mine put down 2 years ago at 19 years old (going through renal failure) and almost 2 years to the day her sister passed away in my DH's arms.

Cammie seems to be better tonight realizing Shadow wont be back she isn't crying anymore she will be 12 October 28th she was born in the house here. I realized about an hour ago it was just over a month ago when we let Snowball go one of our younger cats he wasnt a friendly fellow but two cats in a month thats too much, we were prepared for Shadow I had already known we were going to lose him but it still was hard and I had saved up money for the cremation he will come home in about two weeks as to where to put him thats another story he had three favorite spots where he would always be next to me I may just move him around month to month who knows sounds kind of morose I know but he loved to be next to me on the couch or my desk or right next to me in the bed or on my night stand. The little guy Chan isnt as loving or a cuddle bug like Shadow was but we are working on it, he does like to help with typing however on the laptop which he is doing right now LOL he keeps batting at my fingers as I go along !

Thanks for being there everyone its been a rough few days and weeks between this and my mom and her drama in Florida which is still going on with her refusal to go to Assisted living.

itscc2u, I'm so sorry to hear about Shadow's passing. He was a beautiful, beloved family member and I know what a void he's left in your hearts. And I know how much more that heartbreak is accentuated to see Cammie mourn him as well. My Shadow mourned Skooter (my avatar) for a couple of weeks after he passed. He was her adopted mother, and they were ALWAYS snuggled together on my bed or the couch.

You can only take comfort knowing your Shadow was greatly loved when he was with you and is now no longer suffering. God bless you and all of your 2 & 4 legged family. I hope the pain doesn't linger too long.

I found a Russian Blue at one of the shelters yesterday, no I did not bring her home because I found her online and the shelters are closed on Mondays around here for some reason as DH said thankfully for him and his wallet. I know its grief wanting a new one. I cleaned out and packed away one of the litter boxes last night and it sure made a lot of room in the laundry room I think we will be happy with Cammie and Chan, Mittens will be going to the Farm this weekend Kathy and her kids cant wait to get him they need a big cat and mouser badly since they lost theirs he isn't much for human touch so should be a great addition to her farm. I found out our Animal Shelter has a group for those who are mourning a lost pet or have a sick pet wish I had found it sooner.

I tried to spread some rep Power around but it told me I was doing to much thank you everyone.
