Did anyone see Oprah today..?

Did anyone else watch Oprah today? It was about Child pornography and it was deeply disturbing and sad to think what is going on not all over the world but here in America. Pornographers are showing on the internet how to do horrible things to little kids as young as newborns.
I am a mother of three girls and I was horrified to see that, but as much as we dont like to talk about it, its going on all around us.
On Oprahs website there is a link for all of us to get involved with our Senators of each state for them to pass a bill, this is a bi=partisan bill, so your party does not matter...We need to protect the children.

I DVR'd it and wanted to throw up when I saw it! It was totally horrific - there are manuals on "how to molest your little girl".
Here is the link to Oprah's website. There is a bill that NEEDS to pass. Please look at the site. Help Pass the PROTECT Our Children Act

It totally sickened me, too. The part that really got to me is when she was talking about on the video's when you hear them tickling the little girl and her laughing like toddlers do, then it turning to screams. Everyone knows how a little toddlers baby laugh sounds and loves it. How could her screaming in pain turn someone one. It is so sick.

I have 2 girls and cannot imagine...

I did see it, but sadly enough it was not new news for me. Last semester I took a child abuse class, now that's sick to see all of the things people do to kids. We even had to take tests on different pictures of the abuse some children endured in case we became case workers.

Soooooo sad to see

Once she started reading the manual I started crying and had to delete it from my programs. I don't mean to sound callous but I already am aware of these things what good does it do for me to hear the details?

It only makes me sick to my stomach and to my heart and does not do one darn thing to stop it. I can't do anything about it right now I cannot stop it I don't know of anyone or even suspect of anything like this.

So what good does it do to make myself sick and worried and upset over something I have no control over?

Couldn't she have talked about it without the specific details?

Am I missing something?

I don't know, maybe she just really needed to get across how severe a problem this is and felt that was the best way to do it; you know, shock us into looking at the problem. I know it exists but I don't like to think about it kwim? maybe her reading the manual was to impress upon us just how horrendous this is.

I could only watch a few minutes of it because 1) it made me sick, and 2) one of my kids came in and I turned it off. I felt bad for the detective/investigator who said that when he goes home from work, the cases still left on his desk represent kids who will be molested --truly heartbreaking.

I'd like to know the specifics of the bill, since what I'm reading doesn't make sense to me. In cases where child porn is found hosted on an American server, it's typically very easy to find out who put it there, since you can subpoena the host for billing information. In cases where it's on a foreign server, there's not really much you can do, since the host doesn't have to give the info up. Investigations involving email would involve the ISP, same idea. I don't know what software she's referring to, or what it would do. I also know that any PD with a cyber crimes unit is typically very happy to investigate crimes of this nature. Unless sting operations are involved, that shouldn't be more expensive than any other investigation.

I didn't see the show, but I don't understand why so much detail would be given either.

There's not enough money to investigate the number of cases involved. He gave the example of being in a sea of kids drowning and only having 1 lifeboat. Which kid are you going to save, knowing all the rest are going to drown. He said they are going for the ones with the most "hits" on their computers (or however they track them) with the intention of taking out the biggest players to make the biggest impact. It was a very disturbing show.

There are very few areas where there's enough funding, but I still can't find any information on the specifics of the bill, even though I've searched for it. It's an admirable cause. but legislation isn't always helpful, even when it sounds like a good thing, unless it addresses points that actually make a difference. 'More funding' is really vague, and it's going to come at the expense of something else unless the bill is written carefully enough.
