I use it and like it pretty well. The selection isn't always great, I tend toward newer releases, but it has been good for getting something new to read without much cost. It does cost to send out the books people request from you (usually less than $3) and you have to send one out before you can request one, but it's still much cheaper than buying a new book. You can keep the books you request, or post them right back once you're done reading them and send them out to someone else. If you want to request a book but don't have any credits (for books you've sent out) then you can buy them for $3.45 each. All in all not a bad deal.

I also use Paperbackbookswap.com I have been a member for a couple of years now and I enjoy swapping boks for free. Yes, you do have to pay postage to send, but right now I have found it is actually cheaper to send 1st class than media, right now it is costing me about $1.89 to mail a book, where if I use the media rate it is over $2, my postal lady pointed this out to me, she was curious one day and checked both rates, so have them check the rates when you mail your books. Don't just assume that media rate is cheaper (unless the book is real heavy) , with the new postal rates things have changed a bit, it used to always be cheaper, now it isn't. I have never bought any credits from the book club, to me that kind of defeats the purpose, but I know people do purchase them, that is up to the individual. I got my 23 year old DD involved and she loves it and she in turn got another of her friends involved and she also loves it.
