What do you write on those Back to School forms from the teachers?

Every year I go to Back to School night, and the teachers always hand out those forms that ask parents things like "What would you like me to know about your child?" "How can I best help your child?" etc. When my daughter was younger, this was easy. But now that she's in high school, it's harder. There are things I'd like to share with them, such as difficulties she has in some areas, but 1) I'm not sure the teacher is REALLY wanting that much info. on this form, 2) I don't want to say something like "she has difficulty with organization" and oossibly give the teacher the wrong impression right off the bat, and 3) it's also hard to say something positive without sounding like I'm saying she's so wonderful.

So, any teachers out there? What are you really looking for when you hand these out? Do most parents write something nice directed at the teachers on these forms?

Not a teacher, but I do work in the school system.

If it was my child and she had organizational difficulties, I might write something like this.
"Sally is very motivated to do well this year. She might benefit from some pointers for keeping her work organized."

Or something of that nature.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reply! I wish I had your way with words! I have a hard time, and it either comes off sounding critical of my daughter, or like I think the teacher should be doing something more/better/different -- none of which is my intent!

I agree with toonces - one of those constructive critiques that is peppered with some nice words!

Delaney is very excited about starting the new year with you. She has been struggling in math, but is excited about getting a fresh start with you. She is very proud of her reading abilities!

Really, toonces hit the nail on the head. True pointers with some niceness added in...

Good luck!

Sandwich technique... any negatives get sandwiched between positives.

Personally, I just like to have straight facts about the kids. I don't need anything sugar coated. I want to know how I can really help your child. If I sit down and read all the information from each parent I don't want to have to read between the lines.

My sons teachers form had a spot for weaknesses and also strengths. I just put down the truth and what he typically does well in and what he typically has trouble with.
