When ever I get asked...

What you been up to? or What's new? or What have you been doing that's fun?

I FREEZE UP!

My mind goes totally blank and I can't think of anything and I sound like a utter bore! Next destination Snoozeville. All aboard!

I know people ask as a greeting and most likely don't care what you say in answer to them, but it really bothers me that I freeze up at this.

What do you say when asked?

Oh and when I ask in return and people answer.. oh nothing, or just working.. I don't think they are boring... just me! I need help!

I have this thing, where I feel that sometimes people just say out of habit, "how are you?" without really expecting an answer.

So when people ask me, I really throw them off guard when I really tell them HOW I AM DOING! LOL

Another thing, is when I am asked that (usually as this person is running by on their way), and I say.."doing good, how are you?" and I am saying it to their backs, and very rarely do you hear a reply. . I really do want to know.. or I wouldn't have asked in return! It's almost like this has become a salutation and a closing statement, with no reason for answer to either. LOL

I have the same problem at the checkout when cashiers habitually ask the "How are you?" I either freeze up or sputter out "How are you?" back.Depending on the cashiers enthusiasm I'm sometimes " o.k. ",or "Good ! ".
If they just mumble it out quickly like they've said it for only the 500th time that that day, lol, I usually pretend I didn't hear them.
I'm more of a reserved person and would just rather pay for my stuff and go then get into a conversion about How I'm doing.

When I am having a bad day, "How are you" can bring me to tears - because you know no one really cares anyway and if you told them the truth, they'd want to cry too! When someone asks what I've been up too, the same thing happens , I freeze - I can't think of anything worthwhile to say other that laundry, diapers and cleaning toilets or something!!!!

You know what else happens to me? I have this introduction anxiety or something that causes me to forget peoples names. When I have to introduce my husband to someone I've known for a while from school or a former job - I completely forget their name. I have even forgotten my husbands name. I don't know WHAT my problem is...

LOL.....my DH has the same thing. I asked him one time "why didn't you introduce me to them.....???" he said "I forget his name" HUH???? You work with him!!!! He told me that he never remembers people's names. I told him to introduce me FIRST...."Hi, this is my wife ...... " then they usually say their name. Sheeshhh.....LOL

Just smile and say "I'd like to tell you, but it's a government secret. You know how it is."

My Mom had trained my niece when she was about two (she's now 22 ) Whenever anyone asked what she was up to, she'd shrug her tiny shoulders and say "oh, about three feet." They got lots of startled looks...then smiles...
