Spin Off....... Bras

Underwire or not. I personally hate the underwires but when you have to buy the larger sizes it seems like they all have the underwire and after awhile they start poking through and stabbing me. Speaking of larger sizes they are ugly they must think we don't like pretty bras a larger sizes.

Wal mart has the Queen Latifa bras and they are very supportive and have nice padded shoulder straps. They do not have the underwire so there is no poking. Not sure what they are called but they have her picture on the packaging.

I must have an underwire. The only ones that fit well, don't poke thru AND are pretty are Lane Bryant's Caciquie line. I haven't seen WM's Queen Latifa brand but then again, my tag line says it all LOL

JC Penney has some very nice bras. You can find the bigger sizes with thinner straps.

I think Victoria Secret is WAYYYY overpriced, and it's all in their marketing. You can take the same stuff you'd find at Wal mart, Kmart , Target, or any other discount store, and market it the way VS does, and people would ooohhh and ahhhhhh, and fork over those exhorbitant prices. Not me, I'm much smarter than that.

No underwire here. I'm only a 34A and if I wear a bra, there's no need for wires

I just had a "professional" fit me about three weeks ago. Although I think I really need a larger size, maybe a 38, but I measured a 36DDD!!! lol Not bad for the only girl in the 8th grade sewing class who was so small I had to use a childs dress pattern! So embarrassing at the time! lol

I buy the extra push up bras they have a little pillow in the bottom of the cup that makes the boobulas look like they are 20 yrs younger!
It took me years to find the right size and I also prefer without the underwire however sometimes it is needed.

Wow! You really are so smart.
Mosey on over to the LWIF and you will find that you can get VS products for dirt cheap on occasion with stacked codes and specials. No sense missing out on the good fit and long-lasting VS bras as well as the pleasure of having VS underneath. Now, that's smart.

But seriously, the topic was underwire or not and finding bigger sizes (which VS doesn't really carry too much of). For larger sizes, I think underwires are needed to support and hold in place and so that's what I wear. I hear you on the breakthrough and puncture. I remember one time running on the treadmill (bounce, bounce, bounce LOL) and feeling pain in the middle of my chest.....walked into the locker room and realized that I looked like something out of Carrie with blood soaking my shirt where I had been punctured by an underwire. Ouch!

I find that not putting bras through the dryer helps. Oh, and I've never had an underwire poke through on my Body by Victoria or VS Cotton bras if you choose to be dumb and buy their products.

Big boobs + gravity = need for underwire.
And frankly in my case gravity won years ago.
I have had very good luck with JC Penney bras and I hand wash and line dry them so they don't have too many issues with broken wires or wires wear through.

Fashion Bug which has great sales all the time. Go to their website and sign up for email and snail mail alerts. I often receive coupons in the mail for $10 off $25 which can be used on up to 30% off and they have bras B2G2F all the time. I also found some of these bras on the clearance rack in light peach and tan. They always have white and black but LOL no white for me!

Also if you subscribe to Figure magazine (it's put out by the company that has Catherine's, Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug) every month you will receive a coupon for at least $20 off $50 and it's less than $20 for a two yr subscription. The magazine sucks lol but the coupons for all three stores are there every month.

I have a whole drawer of these push up bras I swear since I have been wearing them it looks like I had a lift. The only downside is when I take the bra off I need a shopping cart to carry these puppies in.

Fashion Bug - Fun and affordable clothing for women in plus, misses, juniors and girls sizes

Can't find it online but if you have a store just go in and ask for the extreme push up bra.

I couldn't make it without underwire, my girls droop enough as it is. I get most of my basics at Target, but I have to say, if you're looking for something special, the best place I've found is barenecessities.com. They have gorgeous bras and panties in all sizes. You don't have to look like you borrowed your grandma's undies anymore. They have the option to search by size, so you don't have to sort through and fall in love with something that doesn't come in your size. They aren't cheap, though, but you can get something pretty for less than $40.

Good question I would like to know too. Think I'll go shopping today and see if I can something that won't cost a whole paycheck (I don't think it'll be white either).

I am with those larger ladies who gotta have a wire. Dillards has a style in their Cabernet brand that is great. Nice big padded shoulders and non poking underwire.

After four kids, my girls kind of resemble tube socks-kinda' gotta' roll them up and then insert into bra. I truly do believe that on the 8th day, G*d created underwire. I buy all my bras at TJ Maxx. My favorites are Olga and Vanity Fair. While they are $20+ in the dept. stores, I can usually get them for $6-$7 at the Maxx. It's so hard to fit for bras. I might try on a dozen, and only bring home one or two. I did get professionally fitted once, but I did not find it to be accurate.

Yep. I have VS bras and panties that are 10 years old. I also have brand new ones. Not much difference between the old and the new. Even the old black stuff is almost the same color as the new black stuff.

I never bought anything at Walmart or Sears or JC Penney that came close to lasting that long. I don't think I've ever had anything by Hanes of FOTL that lastd 10 months. As far as VS goes, you get what you pay for.

Yeah, I have some very old bras and panties from VS that are still kicking.

I am disappointed that the quality of their cotton panties has gone downhill though. Those used to last forever, but not anymore. Oh well, I get them for free since they're constantly sending me the free panty offer....so I guess I can't complain.

Like Linny, I get the rest of my bras and panties primarily at TJMaxx and Marshalls - which is admittedly very hit or miss, so you have to check in often.

Delta Burke has a line of larger sized bras and panties that are pretty and relatively inexpensive, but they are a little too big for me, especially the undies.

I've seen these at TJMaxx & Marshalls at a much reduced rate. They do tend to run big though. I bought my normal size in the Delta Burke bra without trying it on (they were on clearance and I was in a rush) and they turned out to be way too big.

I couldn't agree more with the above!! I only buy VS bras because I can get them WAY cheaper than even a Walmart bra! The last VS bra I bought was $6 shipped, plus I received a free pair of undies! Can't beat that! I also agree with you CJ about the cotton underwear! They don't seem to last nearly like they use to...but like you said, they are free

As for underwire, that's all I wear. I don't seem to have any problems with wire poking out. I wash my bras on delicate and hang dry, so I'm sure that helps.

I buy the Curvation bras at Walmart and they are sensibly priced and pretty good at supporting mine~ but the best bra I've ever worn was a Bali bra, they are expensive but worth it

I wear a Bali underwire (only thing that holds my DD's up ) purchased on deep discount at Kohls during one of their sales and with a $10 coupon. I paid around $7.

Wow - I love Victoria Secret bras, and what they 'do' for the bust line - I consider them well worth the (Sale) price. And IMHO I'm *quite* the smart shopper!

Don't get me wrong - I don't have a closet full of the VS brands, so I choose my occasions wisely...

I think it was Gretchen Wilson who said "I can get the same damn stuff on a Walmart shelf half-price..." So I know you're not alone.

I usually get my bras from Walmart or Target. I look for the padded push up (34A). I buy my undies from VS. I like the way they fit and don't ride up. But, in all honesty...they aren't any better made then any other undies. They usually last me a year. Once a year I go and buy four pair. I have a hard time paying that much for them, but like I said...I like the way they fit. I just managed to get a good deal on Jockey undies at Penneys last week. I got six pair for $5.00. I will be curious to see how long they last compared to my new VS undies.

I don't get mine at Wal-mart,k-mart or Target , actually, just saying that I think a lot of the "oohhh and ahhhh" over VS is in the marketing...the way they display it, market it, etc.

Oh, and so we're staying on topic, underwire for me. I'm petite in everything but my chest, I guess.

Best Bras: Consumer Reports Sizes Them Up

I found this interesting in a recent issue of Consumer Reports. But this bra does not come in my size.

My best advice is to have a 'professional' bra fitting. A stand-alone store that specializes in undergarments is best. A traied bra fitter can look at you (fully clothed) and tell what size you are -- no measuring necessary. I am not kidding about that.

If an underwire is uncomfortable, you're wearing the wrong size. Most people are wearing too big of a band size and too small of a cup size. At my fitting, I went down two sizes in the band and up two sizes in the cup and couldn't be happier. I have better posture and no more constant back pain.

FYI, dnj51 posted a smart deal for VS bras and panties over in LWIF - you can ooohhh and aahhhhh and not pay more than $10 for a first-rate bra!!! Love those VS stacked code deals! Go get 'em, ladies!

I've noticed that Fruit of the Loom or Hanes, can't recall which, now makes a bra that looks like an underwire but there's no wire!

It appears that where the wire should be there is super re-enforced fabric that looks like it would give the same support as a wire without the risk of shish-kaboob. I'm going to try one the next time I need bras.

I wear a 38D and most of my bras are underwire. I hate when the wire breaks, and its always on my favorite one. You really can find pretty bras in larger sizes, I used to wear a 44D and always had pretty bras when I was larger. I got several of mine on ebay, but you have to be be careful buying before trying them on because no matter how carefully you measure and how their stats match up with what you need, you can end up with one that's just not right. But they are generally cheaper, and easy to resell since they are NWT.
