| My heart is breaking....Tommy
Tommy was in treatment w/ our oldest son-he was finishing when Pat was starting. Unfortunately, he relapsed, and will not be with us much longer, being hours, or maybe a day or two at most. Just asking for prayers, whatever direction you feel they should go. This is such a great family-two college professors, with two young sons-one of which is not long for this world. His mom and I attend the same support group, and is the most dynamic member! I am going to post a link, just know that it is not going to be pleasant: CaringBridge. Free Websites That Support And Connect Loved Ones During Critical Illness. |

I have been reading through the journals, and this family absolutely amazes me. The journey they have walked is an amazing, uplifting and sad all at the same time. Tommy's life may be coming to an end, but his legacy that he and his family are leaving behind will live on forever. The amazing thing is, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month and you are here sharing his life with us. I can only imagine the pain they are going through and the devastation they are facing watching their child being taken away so slowly. ![]() Tommy will be on my mind, and I hope this post stays on the first page for the rest of the month of September as a reminder to us all (but I know this is a stretch, so my hope is that those who read this will remember what this month stands for). These children are so precious. Cancer is a stealer, it seems to hate those that it choses and it seems to grip and control every moment of its victim's life. Thanks for sharing this with us all, Ballmom. |

Thoughts and prayers for Tommy, his family, and all the other suffering children. A little OT, but I just became familiar with Hunt of a Lifetime Hunt Of A Lifetime, Making Dreams Come True It is similar to Make A Wish, but for children with life threatening conditions to go on hunting trips. |

Linny, I'm so sorry to hear about Tommy's decline. I can only imagine the anguishing helplessness his family and loved ones must feel. God bless them all. Childhood should be the most simplest, happiest, carefree time of a persons entire life..... a time to look back upon fondly with a smile. Sometimes life can be so cruel and unfair. Even through all he's suffered, he seems to still have a smile for the camera. He's obviously a trooper and has given it his best fight. A lot more people should be blessed with such a good friend as you who cares so deeply. My heartfelt prayers will be with Tommy, his family, and his loving friends. .

thanks guys, I will keep you posted as I know more. I almost hate clicking on my email these day, knowing that one of them will be a message that Tommy has passed. It's inevitable, and I wait for it every hour. For those that have asked, I am fine, despite what we have gone through with our son. He is so healthy. All this just makes me want to hug him a bit harder-he has a wonderful prognosis, and is now a college freshman. |

So sad and devastating this has to happen to young children. My good friend lost her 7 yo daughter to cancer 5 years ago and has never been the same. She still posts on Caring Bridge and you can still hear the ongoing grief and depression in her words .

And up on the hospital floor, when your kid is admitted-those nurses are the best. I have witnessed several occasions of the Drs. playing all-out hide-and-go-seek with the kids who are "stuck" on the floor for a while. And the nurses who kind of turn a blind eye to visiting hours, and the # of guests who should be in a room at a time. I just know with Tommy, that his last days will not be filled with sorrow. Just knowing his parents, they will find a way to bring joy to each moment. Not something I could easily do, given the situation. |
