Building Fairy Houses

Has anyone tried this with their children?

Amazon.com: Fairy Houses ... Everywhere! (The Fairy Houses Series) (The Fairy Houses Series): Barry Kane, Tracy Kane: Books

I am going to pick this up to do with my neighbor's girl we have so much fun together! I read about this book you collect stuff from the woods and stuff from your home like charms, shells, etc then you build fairy houses in the woods or wherever.

I wish they did this when I was a little girl!

Very cute! I'm going to buy the book for my library (I'm an elementary school librarian). Fairies are very "in" right now with the girls - especially the Disney Fairy Series. I know the girls will love it!

Thanks for showing the book!

We have a cabin in the woods

and my children did this over the summer. They collected all sorts of things and made a house, hammock, mailbox, bed, garden.. you name it.

It poured like crazy that night, so things got shifted around.

They woke up and ran outside. They found that the fairies had moved things, and sprinkled fairy dust all over. They rearranged some of the findings into the shape of a heart as a thank you. (Some of it I did, and some was just natural from the storm.. I was out there at 5am.. )

Anyway.. they are 7/9 and I'm surprised but apparently they still believe in fairies. They had a great time trying to figure out how/why the fairies moved things. I don't think they will ever forget it.

Have fun!

Saw this idea in family fun magazine a couple of years ago and collected all kinds of sticks, etc to make one with my DD, but never got around to it. I thought it was darling.

You inspired me to tell my 8 year old dd and 4 year old ds today. They spent HOURS today constructing in our driveway bushes by the house. They made the walls and roof by leaning bark against rocks- they made paths of colored glass stones- so cute! They set bowls on little tables for the fairies to drink from. ( acorn caps on a big leaf as the table.
TY OP!

We made a little fairy house village today while waiting for my oldest DS to finish an outdoor candle-dipping activity.

It kept my 2 littlest ones so happy for a LONG time - without having read about this, I think I would have been having a lot of "whine" being served...LOL

Come to find out that there is even an article on building fairy houses in this month's Family Fun (Oct) edition.

We're hooked!

I wish I had a girl, would it be odd for a 36 year to build a fairy house? My Mum always told me that toadstools/mushrooms that grow in the garden are fairy houses!
