Beauty College, wow!

I went in for a highlight and weave (to get my greying roots closer to natural color) and I am very pleased with the results. I only paid $25 for a process that would generally be over $70? I tipped the young girl $10 for three hours of work. The reason that it took so long was because I had an old dye job and some horrendous sun bleaching going on. She had to completely bleach out the highlight strands before toning them back in.

She really did a nice job -- graduates next month.

What procedures have you had done at the beauty college? Now I'm hooked.

we have a beauty school up the road from us. A couple of years ago when my dd was in a wedding i went and got her a updo but some of the back was down also... hard to explain..lol. It looked awesome and only cost 10 bucks. then a month ago i took her there and got her hair colored and alot of hair cut off and it only cost 30 bucks! I couldnt believe how good it looked and how cheap. I told her we were defintely going back.

I think it's the best kept secret. I get a European 1 hour facial for $15.50. It's such a nice treat that I wouldn't normally splurge on myself. I always have a senior do it and have had wonderful results. I did recently have a pedicure and the poor girl painted more of my toes than the nails The teacher made her do it over . The poor thing was shaking, she was so nervous. She ended up giving me a great pedicure, took forever, but I didn't have to rush anywhere. It was a warm cream pedicure, I got the optional sea salt scrub and parrafin dip with thermal wrap. All for $14.
I think Im going for the body treatments next. Salt scrub, herbal or parrafin wrap 1.5 hour for $35.

I personally haven't seen anyone leave there in tears from a bad haircut but I'm sure it's happened. I don't know if I would let them cut my hair. Color wouldn't be a problem because that could always be fixed.

The girl that did my hair warned me against having any of them cut my hair... She said any other procedure is safe but not hair cuts! She told me she wouldn't get her hair cut there and her hair looked nice (!) and so that spoke volumes.

I appreciated her words of advice.

I used to live close to one and had my hair cut, colored. All for $20!

I also used to live near a Paul Mitchell school of beauty and got a massage and a facial for one hour each for $50! I highly recommend it!

I grew up going to a beauty school for haircuts (Ogles). My parents didn't have a lot of money so, of course, it was cheaper. I think I knew it was a school but they always did a fine job.
Thank you for reminding me of them! Now that money is tight for us, I will have to give them a try again. The only one I know of in the area is the one I grew up going to.

I remmber going to vidal sasson salon beauty academy and paying about 10 dollars for a haircut but it was also a different style.

BTW if you go in to some of these places there are professional doing it, that just came back to learn some new and styled information.

I went for a massage once and it was horrid. I was about 2 feet away from another person and it was loud...no privacy. I guess I am spoiled by Aveda. I did it for a friend whose daughter needed to do a certain amount of massages in house before graduating. It was free but I tipped her. I guess for free I can't complain right? I haven't gone for anything else. I get my manicure (the rare occassion I do) for $10 up the street at a nail salon. I wouldn't get my haircut at ours. I know a gal who did and it took her months (and lots of $$$) to get her hair to look right again

I have gone to the Aveda beauty school, it was very similar to their salons and a lot cheaper I probably wouldn't get a haircut at a school but other services like manicures, facials etc are fine.

I'm glad that you posted this. I went to the Beauty school for haircuts when I was growing up. I never even thought to check out our local technical school where I live now. I just called to see if they had a beauthy school, and sure enough they do. So I left a message for them to call me back to see what kinds of things they offer. I am off every Friday, and might just have to schedule a facial or a manicure to treat myself for a change.
