What is the most memorable Halloween you ever had?

Mine was when I took my son who was about 7 at the time with some neighbor friends and their kids to a halloween party. One of the guys that was riding with us all in the same car was dressed as an old man with a really scary ,quality made, old man mask.At every red light he would jump out of the car and go run in hunchbacked form up to the cars behind us and in front us and stare at the people in the cars with his head tilted to the side and just stare till the lights were about to go green, then jump back in our car.It was HILLARIOUS!!! Everybody laughed their butts off.I never laughed so hard in my life.I lmao every time I remember it.
So, is there any particular Halloween time that was the most memorable for you?

When I was a child, trick or treating in the big city, all the children trick or treated for 2 weeks! You went all of halloween week and all of the following week you did it again to get the candy that people had left over! You also had several costumes and changed costumes a few times a night and then went back to the houses that gave the really good candy or money. We were greedy little buggers. Now you are given certain times like 6 to 8 pm on halloween.
How times have changed.

Wow, that would have been funner than Christmas! You must have had a years supply of candy by the time it was over. When I was a kid we just had a typical 6-8:00 pm Halloween.I was lucky though to live in a huge neighborhod with the houses close together so I did manage to get at least a half a grocery bag full by 8.

The first year I took my son out, he was dressed as a pumpkin and he could barely waddle. He was so cute, had his little pail for his candy. We went to the neighbor's across the street. We had rehearsed Trick or Treat but all he could say was "Tic Tic". She put a candy bar in his little pail and closed the door. He stood there looking at the door, then turned around and sat down on her porch. He took the candy bar out of his pail, opened it and ate it. That was the end of trick or treating - he was satisfied and didn't want to go to the next house! Nothing I could say would get him to go to the next house so we went home!

I have a couple of them...

1. When I was about 13, my friend and I dressed up like Roller Derby girls. When we were almost finished and I had a whole pillowcase full of candy, some kids rode up behind us on bikes and grabbed my pillowcase. I chased them on skates and ended up behind the local K-Mart. They rode off and I never did catch up to them. Not sure what I thought I was going to do if I did catch them. There were five of them, one of me. I was so upset that I wet my pants! I went home in tears with no candy, smelling like pee. Not a good night!

2. When my first born was about 16 months old and we dressed him up like a black cat. We took him to a local mall when we were living in Hawaii. He won first prize in his age group. I was so proud and he looked so cute!

3. A few years we got "Yard of the Month" in our neighborhood for Halloween. I love Halloween and I love to decorate for it!

wow Great thread!!!!

I LOVE Halloween, but this will be the second one since we haven't done anything to celebrate it. We just don't have the same amount of kids coming around anymore. MAYBE if we are lucky, for the last five years, we will have only about 25, so we have stopped doing much of anything but handing out candy.

Mitcham your story is so cute!!!! I absolutely loved it!

My favorite Halloween. Well, I have two.

First one was when we lived in Bulington, WI. We lived in an "association" neighborhood on Browns Lake. Our street had nothing but boys, the same age as mine. Halloween was always so much fun, but made especially so because of one of our neighbors, who also had five boys. His birthday is on Halloween, and every year he would pull out a little red wagon, fill it with liquor bottles, and plastic shot glasses and walk around the neighborhood during trick or treating inviting every adult he came across to do a "birthday" shot with him.
EVERY year, we would have to go retrieve him off of the hill in front of our house and deposit him back home..LOL I don't know if that was the end of his route every year, or what.. but it was always SO FUNNY to see him on the hill, with his wagon, contents expired and him not being able to find home. Some of you may be turned off by this, but it was the "Steve Tradition". Funny as heck.

The second memory was when my dh and I moved to IL. We had the same love for Halloween that we had in Burlington, and were hoping our neighbors here were just as fun loving. Every year we decorated up the lawn in the most goulish "grave yard" theme we could come up with. On Halloween night, we would open up our garage (the year we had the Halloween party for the kids, we actually kept hte Haunted house up and did a haunted house for the trick or treaters). I made Hot Dogs, and we would have hot dogs, soda and chips for the kids and then Beer or Whisky shots for the parents, if they wanted.
I think the second year, we heard this noise coming down the road in the dark. We didn't know what it was, and went to the end of the driveway to see. Coming down the road was a guy in a motorized wheelchair. We watched as he approached and he came in our driveway and said "WELL! The talk around the neighborhood is you guys have not only eats, BUT treats for the parents! I had to wheel myself right over here!" LOL!! He was a vietnam vet and we had a blast sitting with him and talking...errr.. socializing with him. He absolutely MADE our night!! I will NEVER, EVER forget the look on my dh's face while he was watching him come down our road..LOL

My favorites have been the past two years.
We have taken our motorhome 3 miles to a state park and 'camped' for a few days.
My DD, her DH & 2 DSs join us on Satjurday morning and spend the night with us.
On Halloween weekend the park has a haunted train ride and other activities for kids.
All of the campers decorate like there's no tomorrow!
Lots of lights, pumpkins, ghosts and goblins, even tnose big blow-up decorations.
We set up and decorate our tent/gazebo and invite the trick-or-treaters in to get a treat from a witch........either me or my daughter.
The park blocks off the entrance for trick-or-treating so there is NO traffic. There are usually about 200 kids! It is just so much fun!
Last year we just hapenned to be in Kroger when they were putting out Halloween candy and selling the "old" candy for half off! We loaded up, knowing it takes lots of candy to treat 200 or more kids!!!
This year the park is celebrating two weekends because there are so many people who want to camp for Halloween. Both weekends are booked full.

I used to work in an office where we were allowed to dress up for Halloween. I had made myself a Raggedy Anne costume complete with a red yarn wig. When I got home from work I didn't change out of it...thought I would wear it to hand out treats.

Among the first kids were a very young brother & sister. Their eyes were kind of big when they saw who was answering the door. As I turned to get their treats I heard the little boy say to his younger sister "I didn't know Raggedy Anne lived here." I've always remembered that & laughed to myself. I imagine it was interesting when their parents drove them past my house & they insisted that Raggedy Anne lived here. LOL

You asked for most memorable, not favorite so here goes. My most memorable Halloween was when I was five and my sister and I had our pillowcases full of candy stolen by some stupid thugs. Yep, that pretty much sucked. When the neighborhood kids heard of our plight they graciously donated all the candy they didn't want. So to add insult to injury, we ended up with tons of those chewy peanut butter things wrapped in orange and black wrappers (what are those things anyway?) to replace all the awesome candy that was ripped off.
