I think I might just throw up about this one from PETA EWWWWWWWW !

These people are really loony in my book. I thought it was bad when they wanted to ban fishing saying that fish had "feelings" Um yeah most hooks hurt like crazy , but hey we all can't be like Jesus and catch our fish in baskets. Then when they put the bloody cows in the MC Donald's happy meals ( this one I swear I would have hurt someone form Peta had my child received a bloody cow instead of a toy). But now this OMG these people are just plain fruity ! The thought of eating ice cream from breast milk makes me want to GAG. I don't know ANYONE in my circle of friends that would be willing to express their breast milk so we could have a ice cream making party with each other EWWWWWW.

PETA proposes that Ben & Jerry's use breast milk in its ice cream

updated 5:10 p.m. CT, Thurs., Sept. 25, 2008
WATERBURY, Vt. - Mooove over, Holsteins. PETA wants world-famous Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream to tap nursing moms, rather than cows, for the milk used in its ice cream.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is asking the ice cream maker to begin using breast milk in its products instead of cow's milk, saying it would reduce the suffering of cows and calves and give ice cream lovers a healthier product.
The idea got a cool reception Thursday from Ben & Jerry's officials, the company's customers and even La Leche League International, the world's oldest breast-feeding support organization, which promotes the practice — for babies, anyway.
PETA wrote a letter to company founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield on Tuesday, telling them cow's milk is hazardous and that milking them is cruel.
"If Ben and Jerry's replaced the cow's milk in its ice cream with breast milk, your customers — and cows — would reap the benefits," wrote Tracy Reiman, executive vice president of the animal rights advocacy group. She said dairy products have been linked to juvenile diabetes, allergies and obesity.
Ashley Byrne, a campaign coordinator for PETA, acknowledged the implausibility of substituting breast milk for cow's milk, but said it's no stranger than humans consuming the milk of another species.
"We're aware this idea is somewhat absurd, and that putting it into practice is a stretch. At the time same, it's pretty absurd for us to be drinking the milk of cows," she said.
It takes about 12 pounds — or 1 1/2 gallons of milk — to make a gallon of ice cream. Ben & Jerry's, which gets its milk exclusively from Vermont cows, won't say how much milk it uses or how much ice cream it sells.
As a standardized product under federal regulations, ice cream must be made with milk from healthy cows. Ice cream made from goat's milk, for example, would have to be labeled as such.
Presumably, so would mother's milk ice cream.

Ben & Jerry's will stick to cows
To Ben & Jerry's, the idea is udderly ridiculous.
"We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child," spokesman Sean Greenwood said in an e-mail. He didn't respond to requests for an interview.
Leon Berthiaume, general manager of the St. Albans Cooperative Creamery, which provides milk products to Ben & Jerry's, called the dairy products "among the safest in the world."
"Milk from cows has long-term health benefits and has been proven to be safe and healthy and an important part of the American diet for generations," he said. "I'm not ready to make that change."
Cow's milk and mother's milk aren't interchangeable, according to La Leche spokeswoman Jane Crouse, who says breast milk is a dynamic substance that's different with each woman and each child and might have difficulty being processed into ice cream.
Then there's the question of who would provide the milk, and whether they'd be paid.
"Some women feel compelled to donate milk to a milk bank for adopted babies, or for someone who's ill or unable to breast feed. There's plenty of anecdotal evidence about sisters who nurse each others' babies. There's a population of women very willing to share their milk. Whether there's enough to do it for a commercial entity, who can say?" she said.
At the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury, consumers gave a collective "Eww" to the idea Thursday.
"It's kind of creepy," said Jeff Waugh, 42, of Dayton, Ohio.
"I think it's a little nutty," said the Rev. Roger Wooton, 83, of Malden, Mass., finishing up a cup of Heath Bar Crunch.
"How would they get all that milk?" said his wife, Jane Wooton, 77.
Jen Wahlbrink, 34, of Phoenix, who breast-fed her 11-month-old son, Cameron, said she wouldn't touch ice cream made from mother's milk. She remembers her nursing days — and not that fondly.
"The (breast) pumps just weren't that much fun. You really do feel like a cow," she said, cradling her son in her hands.

Hey Dolley, can't ya just see it now. A few thousand women sitting around chatting or playing on their laptops while hooked to a Breast Pump machine .
Sorry the thought of eating breast milk not only GROSSES me out ( Sorry as a baby I didn't care what I was given because I cried and thats what was stuck in my mouth LOL ). But Milk from a Mother of who knows what kind of background > What about Hep C/ Aids / Drugs/ the list would go on and on. They would have to pay these mothers for that milk and I rank that up there with blood at the blood bank, ever taken a drive thu a city with a blood bank that pays ? Holy cow the people you see walking IN and OUT of that building is enough to make 1 refuse a life saving blood transfusion totally.

I saw them interviewing some vegetarians on the news and they even said they weren't interested in ice cream made of breast milk. That's disgusting!

They are just plain stupid. They take a good cause, helping abused animals, and ruin it completely. Don't they realize that cows need to be milked or they would be in serious pain? What is wrong with them. It's almost as crazy as buying all the Sea-Worlds and releasing animals that could not survive back into the wilderness! That was another brilliant idea they had this year. Wow, they are having quite a stellar year.
This organization is awful. Oh, I forgot to mention that they have their headquarters here in Norfolk, VA. It's so much fun to run into these freaks and their protests in person.

These people have gone way too far they are way beyond humane treatment of animals. The lady in charge Ingrid Newkirk wants to be processed like a meat animal after she dies.

PETA: Ingrid Newkirk's Unique Will

I am all for treating animals humanely and killing them with the least amount of trauma as possible but I am intelligent enough to see we are only a link of chain and I do believe God intended animals for us to eat even though I personally choose to eat them.

It is honorable to advocate for correct treatment of living things but you can go too far after all God gave us the brains and the ability to reason and animals he gave only instinct so I believe we are to think before we act. But there is a difference between torturing animals and killing them for food.

And breast milk is meant for the baby of the mother with the milk. I would not want any thank you very much or I would pump my own and make my own milk even the thought of that grosses me out beyond belief.

PETA is just a bunch of whack jobs.

They think that pets should be set free to live in nature.

Well, let me tell you that my stupid cat, Ed, would last about .00001 seconds on his own. He's really dumb and has no sense of self preservation. He embodies the little saying about black and white cats: "Black and white, not too bright".

Actually, only dairy cows need to be milked and that's because they're made pregnant on schedule and then the calf is taken away immediately. It's not like cows inherently need to be milked by humans...that's a human-made situation. So if their point is to stop using cows for milk, that need would go away. I'm not advocating, just saying.

Personally, I've never felt the same about cow's milk after nursing my first child. I guess I'd never really thought of milk as a cow's bodily fluid before...at least not in those terms. I'm not sure why the milk of a human is considered unclean and 'disgusting' but the milk of a cow that lays in feces all day is considered clean and normal.

I do agree that PETA is wasting its time with silly crusades like this one...there are too many animals being legitimately abused to take this kind of nonsense seriously.
