401k stock market

How are you all doing with your 401k's?? I just checked mine, and thankfully I am safe. I rolled my money into cash and bonds at the beginning of the recession, and i actually made $3,000. The news is telling people not to do anything for right now, and not to panic.

I've lost about 10% of my retirement funds as of today. I'm trying not to be bothered by it and having faith that things will figure themselves out over the long haul. The good news is that I still have a solid nest egg.

Does anybody have that link where you can go check on how financially stable your banks present state is? Sorry to be off topic but all this is getting me worried.

Bankrate.com -- Safe & Sound (tm): Bankrate's free rating system for banks, thrifts, credit unions

I wouldn't really worry about the safety of your bank, if it is FDIC-insured, if you have less than $100K in your non-retirement accounts, or $250K (I think) in your retirement accounts. There's nothing for you to do, if that's the case. No sense in worrying about it, either.

The 401K or investment question in general is more a reflection of the volatility of the stock market.

I lost about $5 over the past week. I'm not worried I've got years even decades before I retire.

I haven't checked. No sense worrying myself. There's nothing we can do about it and we have a couple more decades for it to bounce back. We are going to sell some stock (we've been waiting for the certificates to arrive so we could deposit them into an account) and that has gone up about $1 each share. We need to pay for some home improvements we hadn't counted on.

We haven't checked either. I'm sure we've lost a bundle, but we have another 10-15 years before we'll possibly need it. I'm confident it'll be back.

I don't look, no need like Sexysmurf said. You only lose if you cash out.

I don't look either. There have been high and low periods over the years. We are still coming out ahead. Worrying solves nothing! We have everything rolled into very safe accounts as per our financial advisor -- he's never steered us wrong and taken supreme care of us over the past 20 years.

I just don't want to know.

But, as I was counseled, do not make any changes. If you make changes, you lose that money you have lost...forever. There is no getting it back.

So, we just sit..and wait. We have about 20 years to recoup.
