With everything that has been happening bad in the world, and all the bad news we have been hearing on the news lately, how about a thread about good news only. The news you have to share does not have to have happened to you but if you know of a good news story please share it. WE COULD ALL USE A LITTLE GOOD NEWS TODAY THANK YOU!!!!! |

I'll start. I love to cook, and thought I would try to do a made from scratch cake. I made my very first ever made from scratch cake today. It turned out okay. Those who tried it seemed to like it pretty well. I got it from a cookbook called YANKEE Church Supper Cookbook. The cake I made is called a "SATIN'S VELVET ROBE CAKE". The frosting recipe is to die for, and is very simple. Hope you all have a wonderfull day. Now what is your "GOOD NEWS STORY"? |

My daughter has been begging for a bearded dragon for Christmas and we weren't sure we could afford one. Well, someone at her school happened to be giving one away, tank, supplies and all. Plus - she also offered her a handfed, tame lovebird! So cool as dd is an avid animal lover. We spent the whole summer raising weird things to appease this budding scientist.

I finally finished the newsletter I've been trying to put together. My computer skills are rusty and this project has bee weighing heavily on me. Glad it's done for this month!

Hmm, I was originally scheduled to work this weekend, which would have really put a damper on my days off in between. The good news is that I was told I didn't have to worry about it, so am off 6 days instead of just a couple! Yeah!

My son pulled off someone's flag yesterday during flag football. Flag football is an after-school activitiy - school vs school. He was so excited, and I was so proud of him!! Today is the voting for school president. (ASB) My son decided that he was running for president. So my fingers are crossed. This is a HUGE year for him. He has Aspergers and he is just so full of self-confidence and is such a "joiner" already this year. We are so proud of him. He actually has a good chance at winning for president too. Wouldn't that be awesome - if the Student Body President is a child who has a form of Autism???

YES, that would be AWESOME! I've been blessed just by reading this post! Praise God for the good biopsy report, the cake recipe, flag football, extra days off, finished newsletter, and FREE pets for the petlover!!! My praise/good news report is that today is another day I'm given to do whatever I want. I woke up in my right mind, to a roof over my head, food in the fridge, and faithful husband, great kids, the list goes on! I don't have a certain thing, persay, to report as good news. Just that, even though I've been in a funk lately, I do know, really know, that I am blessed. May I never lose sight of that. A great, great day to everyone!!!! Great thread |

My good news is that we paid off our truck yesterday! Now both of our cars are paid off!!! Now the bad news is DH is shopping for a new car. Our oldest is 14 and has her permit so she'll be driving soon, so we won't be trading one in. He did tell me he wants us to save for a few months before he buys, but we'll see. He's been "looking" for several months. Now that it's paid off, I don't know how long he'll wait. But for now-- we're car payment free!!! Lisa

Our 21 year old granddaughter is moving back to KY from FL. She will still be an hour and a half away and given her age I may not see her any more than I do now, but at least I know she is closer!

| Great Thread
We bought our whole propane supply for this coming year. No worries about big bills this winter. Got a good loving hubby. I've been able to find enough great bargains this year to fill 21 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and our church voted to pay the shipping donation for each box that 4 of us have put together. ![]() I'm thankful in these times for the verse that says "But my God shall supply all your NEED according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." I'm thankful for a terrific online friend who sent me the sweetest book about adoption, a book she authored herself. I'm thankful that I got to spend a wonderful weekend with my family, both kids, spouse, baby and DH, which rarely happens. It was great!!! Thanks devinmom

He got 3rd out of 4. He only missed being Vice President by 3 votes!! Amazing!! He handled the entire situation very well, and can still try again for the next half of the school year. The child who won did the typical "I promise longer lunch hour, longer recess, and will try to get a child to be principal for the day - imagine the principal doing all of YOUR work all day for you". Whereas, my son only promised to do his best and not make any promises that he could not keep. He plans on running again, for the second half of the school year. Another child also plans on running, and his parents are teachers, so we already know he will win (plus he is a very popular kid), so my son is very content on being his V.P. I am glad that he did not get completely discouraged about trying again. It shows great strides in his behavior and maturity.

My good news... sick horse (see avatar) survived a life-threatening bout of sand colic over the weekend. She's on the mend and back to her sweet, happy self. Adding another; it's Fall Break this coming week! No school, YEA! Last edited by Cuthie; 10-03-2008 at 06:34 AM. |

Well, I have been planning my time better now which I am very happy about. I've been reading Coach Yourself to Success which instructs us to get rid of the clutter and extraneous things in our lives that keep us from what we want. So far I am selling less on ebay and Craigslist and limiting my time online, but I opened 3 other businesses which are doing surprisingly well in this economy. Great thread!

I love the changing of the seasons. We had our first days of somewhat gentle rain. No more watering! The H2O bill is down. And I get to wear my nice new sweaters. The leaves are beautiful. My Mom is recovering from Meningitis and my FIL is recovering from pneumonia. Everyone is safe and sound the fridge and freezer and shelves are full of stocked up sale items. It's not cold enough for the heater and too cold for the fans so the electric bill is down. I am looking forward to decorating for Halloween, then Thanksgiving then the big one! Christmas, my favorite day of the year, my son's 25th birthday is coming up! Yes there is lots to be happy and thankful about.

My kids brought their progress reports home and all is going well for them in school. Hubby does not have to travel much for work this month. Thanks for starting this thread. Speaking from experience...sometimes it is hard to remember the good things.

My DD 12 just earned the highest score on the AR reading test out of anyone in her middle school. Wooohoooo! We've always known she was a smart cookie, but I was really kind of pleasantly surprised by this. She scored higher than any of the 8th graders and she's a 7th grader. ![]() Cuthie-I'm so happy to hear the good news about your horse. I have a friend who dates a horse trainer and he just put down a horse due to sand colic a few weeks ago. Glad to hear you didn't have to do that.

| Congrats to your son. Do you know that many colleges will offer scholarships to violists? Even if he doesn't become a music major and just agrees to play in the college symphony, scholarships are often awarded. He will also be able to get gigs very easily and help with finances while in college. Make him keep it up! I'm thinking of having my daughter learn viola some time soon, in addition to violin which she's been playing for a few years now.

My youngest son has been working soooo hard with daily 3-hour freshman football practice and then several hours of homework each night. He is one of those kids who is smart, but not brilliant, and has to work hard and he's been doing it. His mid-term grades came yesterday and he did excellent - 5 As and 2 B+s. I'm so proud of him, not for the grades as much as the discipline and effort that he has shown. Go Alex! (He's playing Sunny Moon for Two on the trombone for me right now...nice!) cj/

Hope DS #1 is doing well away at school. Getting good updates? I spent the day on a boat with six college friends that I get to see 2 times a year. It was a beautiful day, and my face hurts from smiling!

Finally have the ceilings painted in my laundry room & bathroom. I have been after DH to do them for me since the spring. I can't work over my head due to a shoulder injury. One of my ds friends did them for me. Yea!!! Now I can paint the walls and those two rooms will be finished. Only have our hallway, office& formal living room to do. Judy |
