Your child is over 17 - can't claim him on your income tax- he is not a dependent.
Your child is under 23 - so he can't be indepent for college funding - he is dependent.

Your child is over 18 you do not have a right to ask questions about his college grades-
Your child is under 23 so you are responsible for at least 47% of his tution for college.

You had a baby on welfare - you can't work for 2 years.
You had a baby and work full time - the most you could need off for family leave is 12 weeks.

I hate that your legally an adult when you 18 but you can't drink a beer. I think it's ridiculous. That's not saying I want all 18 year olds running around drinking (even though a lot are doing it anyway). It just means that we, as a country, should have ONE age that means you are an adult. Not one for voting and serving in the military and another for drinking...
