I think Biden spoke from experience and Palin spoke from philosophy, and that she did so confidently. They are coming from positions that couldn't be more on the opposite ends of the spectrum, and it's obvious that largely the facts she cites are facts she has learned in the last five weeks... and he is citing things he lived through. But her strength is actually that she *isn't* wedded to years of debates and memories and history of politicking over minute details in various spending bills. It's that she has some strong guiding principles that transcend past details, and I think she articulated those with a lot of oomph and conviction. |

Both did a terrific job -- I was very impressed with both. Biden is a politician who is not 'in your face'... he came across as dignified and focused. Palin comes across as one of us and she debated with grace and intelligence. It was actually enjoyable to listen to; almost refreshing in that it was lacking the nitpicking of the issues that many politicians get into when they are face to face in these types of debates. ETA, this debate did not change my mind about who I will vote for. Last edited by Cuthie; 10-03-2008 at 07:19 AM. |

I think they both did well. I think Palin redeemed herself a bit last night with the general public, but do think Biden did a better job sticking to the issues. I had a hard time focusing on Palin's words with the distraction of her hair in her eyes and the winking. Her "folksy" speech is a little too casual for me personally. I don't care for the 'you betchas" and "you're darn rights". Maybe this is just me...she's not who I would want representing me. I also don't care for being referred to as "Joe Six Pack" because I'm middle class.

I thought she did very well. She held her own with someone who has been in government for 40 years. Debating is hard on any level and she really was under pressure. The debate did not influence my vote. She is a breath of fresh air.

The most mentioned comment was the same as yours: Palin did a great job of holding her own -- and even coming out ahead quite a few times -- against a man who has decades of experience under his belt. I'm delighted because I think the McCain/Palin ticket is exactly what this country needs. |

I love watching her talk even though she kind of went off the topic a few times. She is cutesy and funny. But I dont want her to be the one who is 2nd in "charge" of the country. Biden knows his stuff and the media said he would have to watch how he came across so it didn't look like he was attacking her. And I think he did an excellent job at that. While Palin is entertaining I just dont think she is ready to take over the country if it came to that. I was totally undecided who I was voting for but now I am really leaning toward Obama after these 2 debates. I still have not made up my mind for sure I want to see the next debate. But if I was voting today it would be for Obama.

| CaddyLisa, in what way, during last night's debate, did Ifill show bias?

She asked the questions, they answered. She didn't ask different questions of Biden than to Palin....did she?

I think Ifill did a good job as moderator. I didn't see any bias. I do think she should have disclosed the stuff about her book though. . .that's only being forthright. I thought the debate was pretty good. Biden came off as the more experienced and Palin stuck more to her talking points and speaking to the American people about what she stands for. Curiously that's pretty much how I saw the McCain/Obama debate. McCain like Biden talked more from his experience and Obama stuck to his talking points and his ideology more.

I find Palin's attempts at being cute and folksey very offensive. It's an insult to me as a woman, as a member of the lower economic class and as a person with average intelligence. I never considered voting for McCain but if I had, I'd be rethinking that position now after hearing Palin speak.

i Watched the whole thing to be Palin was ok , she seemed nervous and reading alot from material . definitely Biden has way no experience and while I want Obama and Biden to lead our country, I will give her credit to doing what she is doing considering the position she is going for as a vice president of the United States, if it were me there last nite, I would be sweating Bullets aganist someone who has so much more experience. I am for all power to women however, sadly at this time, Sarah Palin does not have it especially considering how bad our country is in right now. Peace. Catherine
