Question This year's hot holiday gifts???

What are the hot gifts for Christmas this year? What will you be looking for and for what age group? Do you think there's anything that will be impossible to find given the economic situation?

(Yeah, I can't believe that the stores have Halloween and Christmas both out.....jeesh)

I wouldn't mind for myself a Wii console and fit board. I hear these are already impossible to come by. I have no idea what my 19 year old son is going to want.

My son is getting an iPhone and service plan for Christmas, so that's it for him. Then he will be getting a MacBook for his high school graduation in June. I can't believe I thought that things would get cheaper as he got older.

I'm betting on the Elmo Live also for the little kids. Didn't I see it up over $100 on Amazon? I could be wrong about that---it was the pre-order. My 12 year old wants a digital camera or an IPhone (which she isn't getting the phone, is she crazy?! I am looking for a deal on a new digital camera though; a good one cheap.). Haven't really heard much from the 10 yr. old or 7 yr. old. I've gotten some good deals here and there for my 2 yr. old though. My kids still don't have guitar hero for the Playstation so that might be an option. I'm about to cash my MyPoints card in so it might go for that. Christmas is going to be tight this year as with most everyone I'm sure. Deals will go fast. Can you IMAGINE what Black Friday at Wal-Mart will be like this year with so many people broke, out of a job, etc.? Oh my....

Yeah me too....lol All 3 of mine are in college and they all wanted one for HS graduation, but we couldn't afford it. We really can't now but they all got scholarship money refunded, and I feel like they will all use them for school, so I'll probably use some of that to buy them.

I wonder if they'll give me a discount on 3??

No discount on three, but you will get the educator's discount since your kids are in school.

You should be able to get an "educational" discount. Go to the Apple site and look for educational discount I am sure it will work!

I got our Wii Fit last month at Target (went there when it was i the ad and waited til it opened). It's for under the tree. my kids want game for it and some new board games. I can't really buy ahead for my kids (7 & 9) since they change their mind about what they want constantly. I get the "final" list the first week of Dec. But, I don't get them too much.

This is an expensive year with the 16 yr old. Driving school and license fees will add up to about $800. She needs new skis for ski team this year- with the bindings will be about $500 (supposedly a bargain) and she wants a car as she is starting an internship and wants to get a job as well. Even if we don't find her a car (no luck so far finding anything decent in our price range) , will cost about $800 to $1000 to add her to our car insurance. And we are taking several college visit trips this fall that are going to add up. So we are counting all this as Christmas. Don't know what the boy wants yet.

My kids are older now, but when they were "that age" where they wanted everything they saw on tv this is how I handled it. I let them make a list (often handing them that huge TRU toy catalog that comes out) of EVERYTHING they want--about this time of the year they start. They can add to it until mid Nov. At that point I tell them it is TIME--they know what that means: every week they get to pick 2 or 3 things from their list that they REALLY can't live without and really want (number depends on age and how much the items they want are---seems as they get older, their choices start to cost more so I adjusted accordingly). So, by the time Christmas was around the corner, they had trimmed their list themselves to what they REALLY wanted--not what they just saw on TV and "had to have." Of course, if you want your shopping done earlier, just adjust your timeline to fit your shopping schedule! It worked really well for my family and they learned what they really wanted and what was just impulse

I recommend doing Christmas the way my mother did:

When we still believed that Santa brought the gifts, mom sat us down and explained that because there are so many kids in the world we had to keep our lists short so that Santa would have room on the sleigh for gifts for everybody. We couldn't be greedy and take all the space for ourselves so our list should be limited to 2-3 things that we really wanted.

Once we were older and past the Santa stage she sat us down and explained that there was only so much money in the family to spend for gifts and that the budget was $XXX for each of us. We could then make a list of either a bunch of small things we wanted or one/two bigger things that cost more money. She would buy things off the list until the $ amount was reached. But, we always had the same amount of packages to open because she'd buy little things such as gloves and wrap them to make equal numbers of packages.

OK, back to the original topic. I'm sure the Wii will still be big this year along with Ipods and flat screen tvs that are digital ready. I have no idea what will be hot among the younger set.

when my kids were younger and believed in santa, they knew that santa only brought one gift and it was the major gift they wanted. Then they would get a couple of things from me. I knew if i started out big I would never last as they got older. They still have grandparents and their dad to get things from also, they truly do not suffer at christmas...lol.

I dont know how people do it who their kids get a lot of stuff from them and then alot of stuff from santa. I would be broke til next christmas...lol

My DD wants a new cell phone and a couple of movies that have been out for a long time. My DS wants video games. It will be a sparse year, which will make this a very creative year for cooking and crafts.

I am very surprised my boys haven't asked for these yet. Maybe I'll get some for stocking stuffers.

Santa is getting my kids "Guitar Hero- Aerosmith Edition" with 2 giutars. I am also thinking about getting them "Rock Band" for the Wii. I want a Wii Fit. No idea what DH wants. I know he really wants a GPS but I just bought him one for his b-day next week.

I guess I will be giving gift cards again this year. That way people can shop where they like and use their coupons with the sales.

Bakugan-mania around here lately!!! My 8 yr-old and all his friends at school love them. Only problem is...they are VERY HARD to find! Just go in any Target, Walmart or TRU and look for the section of the toy aisle where there are EMPTY HOOKS. That's the Bakugan section. They're selling for double the price on amazon - I'm sure due to their lack of availability. The cartoon debuted in the US in Feb of 2008 on Cartoon Network and since then, they've skyrocketed.

The "marbles" are little balls that open up into different characters (dragonoid, etc) when they roll across a metal card. There's a game but I don't know much about it. The thing is...each little marble that you buy comes with a number, a "g". And the more "g's" the more powerful. Well...and the more they are worth $$. Since they cover the number so you can't see it before you buy, it's like a surprise when you open it. On ebay the more g's the more money they cost (sellers open pkgs before listing to determine "g value")

Amazing...but yeah, DEFinitely a HOT item this year. Wish I was going to Japan - I hear they've been out there for a couple of years. We're just a little behind here on the Bakuwagon, lol! (fyi - they have Bakutins to store them in, Bakubelts to wear them on, Bakuclips to carry them in, too funny!)

My son is into YuGiOh and Pokemon, but has not yet mentioned the Bakugans.

Of course, he is in 6th grade, so perhaps he is starting to outgrow the whole thing.

He has only requested a couple of video games. I know one is the Wii Animal Crossing game (which I just pre-ordered from Amazon - our Walmart is very slow about getting new Wii games in). I forgot the other one.

He does not ask for a lot for his birthday or Christmas. Normally it is like pulling teeth to get him to tell us what he wants.

My dd's have already been given the heads up that Christmas is going to be more traditional this year, more baking, watching Christmas movies, enjoying the beauty. I've also told them to decide on one thing that they really want, like my oldest dd wants a peacoat. So I'm going to do that, and like a stocking, with makeup and other small goodies. I'm sure (hopefully) that I'll pick up other small stuff along the way. I'm really hoping because of this economic mess that there will be good sales going on. Of course for the baby, he doesn't know, and toys will just thrill him. And hopefully his Dad is getting him one of those battery powered trucks. It's going to be wonderful, regardless!! It's Christmas!!

You don't want to know <lol>. They are little ball like toys with magnets in them that pop open when you roll them on the magnetic cards that come with them. You can play some kind of game with them. They are sort of like Pokemon. They are all the rage with elementary school aged boys. My kids have some and honeslty I just don't get it, but they like to play them with their friends. They aren't expensive, but most stores around here sell out within hours of getitng a shipment.

My kids want them too and I've been buying a few at a time when I see them.
