Question C-PAP machine - anybody use one

I have one with a triangular gel mask and I HATE it!

I just can't seem to get used to it. Anybody have a mask that they actually don't mind?

I had tried so many different masks and then my Dr. said to try without for a while. I could never get use to one either and I actually got less sleep with it. Now though without I am doing well and am happy to not have to try and get use to it. I HATED mine too.

I got one after a sleep study a few years ago. HATED IT. Tried everything to make it work and finally just brought the da*m thing back - the vendor really hassled me about returning it and made me sign a statement that I was returning it against doctor's orders! Whatever. I sleep much better now.

I had one and am so claustrophobic I would lay there with it on my face and my heart just pounding and rip it off my face after about an hour then go to sleep! I never wore it more than an hour and after a few nights of trying my nose started closing up and I couldn't breath through my nose so I gave it up!

I am suppose to wear one. I had a sleep study done and Dr. wants me to wear it but after wearing it for one night at sleep study I refuse to.

Well, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who HATES this stupid thing.

But my doctor says it's important that I use the C-PAP machine because it improves the oxygen flow to my heart -- which obviously is pretty important so just not using it is not an option for me.

My husband has one that he is SUPPOSED to wear and he hates it. He says it makes him too congested. His father and his 2 Uncles wear them and they said they would not sleep without them. They feel so much better with them then when they don't sleep with them. My father had one as well but he hated it too. I would probably hate something stuck on my face blowing air up my nose all night too.

Hubby uses one ... it took some getting used to but he doesn't mind it too much anymore. Once in awhile he'll take a night off but he wakes up feeling so drained and with a headache from not breathing so it's not really worth it. He's tried the triangle mask, but he has much better luck with the one that looks more like a oxygen thing that just sticks up his nose a little bit. It's less bulky and more comfortable for him. HTH!

Yeah, I think I'll check into the nose pillow type mask -- it can't be any worse than this stupid mask

I tried it couldn't handle it. I opted for surgery and had a Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty removes excess tissue in the throat to make the airway wider. It is the most common surgery to treat sleep apnea in adults.
I was having sinus surgery and had it done together, it was very painful but worked.

My husband has sleep apnea, but he was able to get a new device that just pushes his jaw a little forward. He said it took just a little getting used to and was never bad at all. He doesn't snore anymore and wakes up refreshed.

My Husband uses one. He has both of the attatchments mentioned. I prefer the triangular mask because the other blows cool air on me while laying next to him! And I HATE that. My ex-husband never used the C-PAP for his sleep apnea, but did have the surgery.

Can you tell me a little more about this device? Right now, I'm interested in all options.

It's called a mandibular advancement splint. You get it from a dentist who specializes in sleep disorders. You can find a dentist in your area at this Web site:
American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine

I use one. For the sleep study I had to wear the triangle one and thought I would die. But they had pamphlets there that had one that just went in front of your nose(maybe called the nose pillow pack. not sure). I told them right off I needed that. It took me a couple nights to adjust to it. I start mine off full blast right away instead of doing the progressive air setting. I LOVE it now. I can't sleep without it. But there is no way I could have ever done it with the triangle shaped thing.
