I see the news about every nite. They say the stock market closed soo many points below normal and everyone is standing around clapping. If it closed above normal, same clapping folks,Why are they clapping if it closed way below normal? Are they just thrilled that their work day is over? or what the heck is the clapping for???

| Clapping
The brokers are clapping for two reasons: The bell is ceremonial and is often rung by special guests, dignitaries, etc. It's typical for the CEO/founder/etc of a company having it's IPO( Initial public offering) that day to ring the opening bell. Also, much like children cheer at the dismissal bell, they are happy the day is over. |
