Question strange mouth question. about having teeth pulled and problems now.

I had my teeth pulled about 6 years ago. Is it unuseual to have a bone fragment comming out now? Last time I had a piece of bone come out was about 2 years ago.

Sorry about the gross question, but it hurts bad, I can't even begin to tell you.

Also, does anyone have a sugestion on what I can do to help relieve the pain?

Thank You all for taking time to read this, and for any suggestions.

Can't you just go to the dentist and have the piece of bone fragment removed so you don't have to go through months of pain waiting for it to come out on its own?

This just started hurting last night. Also I never know when a piece of bone will come out.

Thank You for your concern.

Wow, I never heard of this! Sorry you are suffering. I'm assuming you are going to call your dentist this morning, but until you can get there, I would take some OTC pain reliever, and maybe pick up some Orajel or something like that that will numb the area, at least temporarily to give you some relief. Maybe even some Chloraseptic to swish around in your mouth?

Good Luck

I had this happen with my back molar. I had a root canal...hurt like a mother. They x-rayed a couple months later because it STILL hurt and saw my roots were still there because many of the bottom roots were *twisty* and they missed them. So, root canal #2. That didn't work either so I had to get an extraction. I had some residual bone come out about 6 months later (right before they put in my implant). Doctor said he hadn't seen that before! Luckily, that was the last of the fragments (that I know of). I have *phantom* pains in my implants every so often and it makes me wonder if it's more bone or something coming up????

I would think your doc could remove it if you don't have an implant in place. I hope you can get it taken care of!

I bet it is a tooth shell. My friend just had one and thought she had "cancer" because her bones were coming out. Just run your fingernail over the area and it will pop right out. It's just a piece of tooth that has worked it's way to the gum. Good luck I hope that is what it is.

There is a product called Ulcer Ease. It is a mouth rinse that numbs (without making you feel numbed) and also heals. You usually have to ask for it at the pharmacy window even though it does not require a signature or prescription. I discovered this product years ago and keep it in the medicine cabinet ALWAYS! It is great for denture wearers. At first sign of any irritation, just rinse a few times and voile' all better. Cost is around $7 per bottle.

For the tooth pain, take 800mg. of Ibuprofen (Motrin) if you don't have an allergy to the med & get some Orajel to rub on the gum. Call the dentist & get his opinion on it this morning.

The body can spit stuff out years after an "insult". One time one of my nurse aides came to me and asked if I would look at her abdomen. She had a sore spot next to an old gallbladder scar. I put some pressure on it and she "spit" out a 3 inch piece of black suture 35 years after the surgery!!! Nothing is impossible.

How strange. I was at the dentist this morning and there was a lady there getting fitted for dentures and she was having the exact same problem.

I would take Tylonal and Ibuprofen (they can be taken together) until you can speak to the dentist.

Good luck, sorry you're in pain.
