Do Fluorescent lights make anyone else sleepy?

It seems everytime I go into a building that's flooded with fluorescent lighting, I get blurry vision and sooo sleepy! Ever grocery stores... I first noticed it in my teens (I'm 41 now) when I would go to stores with my mom. I would be sleepy and constantly yawning, so much so she would send me to the car to wait on her

I think my dad was the same, he yawned a lot inside stores. Today I went to the foot clinic here (i'm diabetic ..had to let the cut my toenails) and it's inside our hospital, which means it's fluorescent lights EVERYWHERE! I was fine before getting there, as soon as I walked in, I began yawning. I got so sleepy i swear I could have taken a nap!

What can I do about this??? Carry a sun lamp with me where ever I go?

They don't make me sleepy. I have one in my home. The light is dim but sometimes the room is too bright compared to the regular bulb. Other than that, no complaints here.

They make me sleepy too! I noticed it in my early 20's when I first started to teacher under them in the public school.

To this day, when I am in a classroom with the tube lighting. I always keep one set turned off. I know one teacher who has floor halogen torchiere lamps and strings of lights on the wall. She turns off the overhead flourescent lights during reading time -- the kids love it (as do I!).

I have heard (but never witnessed ) that the pulsating of the lights can trigger seizures in epileptics.

We have the CFL bulbs in our house and I do not notice the same tiredness problem?! Strange.
