I read the article about that poor child's struggles and I think there's an extremely odd choice of words written. "Thomas Alan Gosser's "exciting and traumatic adventure" with cancer ended Monday.
I've known numerous people with cancer and I have never heard anyone who has suffered from that horrible disease refer to their traumatic experience as an "exciting adventure". I read that Tommy referred to it as 'an adventure" (and that's a wonderful outlook) but exciting? Calling cancer 'an exciting adventure' has to be the epitome of positive spin. May Tommy rest in peace. |
Yeah, not exactly my choice word either, but here are a few synonyms provided for the word "exciting"
stimulating, moving, animating, provocative, arousing, rousing, arresting, impelling, compelling, stirring, thrilling, exhilarating, invigorating, intoxicating, heady, breathtaking, overwhelming, interesting, new, unknown, mysterious, overpowering, inspiring, impressive, soul-stirring, sensational, astonishing, electrifying, galvanizing, bracing, appealing, seductive, titillating, suspenseful, gripping, cliff-hanging*, blood-curdling*, racy*, hair-raising*, mind-blowing*, heart-stopping*. *
Antonyms dull*, tedious*, tranquilizing.
Some, but not all of the words definitely could describe this family's journey. We met Tommy back in the fall of 2006. He was finishing up his treatment when our son was just starting his, and the two were on the same radiation schedule. With pediatric cancer, thankfully, it is a small world, and you just get to know everyone w/ those long hours in the hospital/clinic, etc., so we all kind of get intertwined. I do on occasion go to the Cancer Mom's group, and his mom goes too, Again, thankfully, it's a small group-we don't usually have over a dozen ppl. We just share a meal, chat, occasionally cry, but often just laugh our butts off and have a good time. Your sense of humor definitely gets a bit skewed after having a kid w/ cancer. Thank you for everyone's prayers. While this is such a sad occasion, and that this makes no wordly sense at all, but I feel inspired just knowing his parents and what lenghts they have gone to/and I am sure will continue to go to, to help find that cure!
