Yes, I have. It really baffles my mind how someone with mental illness can carry on and commit repeat atrocities against friends and family all while wreaking mass destruction in their wake. Mental illness is something that I will never truly understand. As long as I don't 'go there' myself, I'm happy! So sorry for your dealings with the *creep*. Hopefully, at some point this can be put behind you so that you can pick up the pieces and move on with your lives. LOL at hambirg! |

Wouldn't it be nice if he were the only creep in this world? I don't know if he's a sociopath but definitely a jerk. Anyhow - I always thought that sociopath's were really out there like serial killers. It wasn't until recently that it was explained to me that sociopaths usually function in everyday society without too much notice. They just lack remorse or any type of empathy for others; but they are usually charming and well-liked. Anyone watch the Oprah show where that boy arranged to have his own family killed, just so they wouldn't find out that he'd been living a lie about going to college? Very charming kid, well liked, fooled everyone. Sociopath.

You would be surprised at who all meets the criteria for the diagnosis of a sociopath.... Unfortunately, a lot of abusive spouses are sociopaths. Which makes it especially hard for the victim to get away. Yes, I've dealt w/ several sociopaths in my life--some on a personal level, and others on a more professional level.

Are you referring to the South Hills rapist in the Spokane, Wa area during the late 70's/early 80's? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24922815/ Even his mom was a loon.

I believe you're thinking of Ted Bundy. |

Wikipedia says that Ted Bundy graduated with a degree in Psychology. My friend and I often joke that con artists, sociopaths, and other predators like to study psychology because it helps them in their deception.

Yes I know a sociopath. She befriended me when my daughter was in Kindergarten (daughter is now 12) as her daughter was in the same K class. Other moms warned me something was wrong with this lady--I did not pursue this friendship I just couldn't seem to get away from this lady. She showed up where I was, followed me around school when I was volunteering, called my house a lot, nosed into my personal business and that of my kids, etc. (I'm talking inappropriate conversations with teachers and others about my kids, etc.--I saw her do this with other friends' kids too wow). If I stopped to talk to her it was IMPOSSIBLE to get away from her. Sociopaths are very friendly, easy to get along with as long as things are going their way, etc. It's when you disagree with them, or God forbid turn them down for something, exclude them, etc. that their ugliness starts to rear its head. It's all about their needs; a good tip-off that someone might be a sociopath is if they are ALWAYS right--can NEVER see anything any other way, etc. This lady was BRILLIANT, had a degree, and could plan things out a year in advance, could accomplish over the top things, etc. I've read that sociopaths are highly functioning people in society and you'll find that most of them hold highly respectable, controlling jobs/positions (the lady I know is a serious control freak which I understand to be the norm with sociopaths). It's not a mental disease, right? It's a personality disorder from my understanding. A big one. Or so they say. The lady I knew was basically a stalker, which is another tip-off. I've read that ALL murderers are sociopaths, but not all sociopaths are murderers (does that make sense--I'm not talking self defense here--I'm talking the cold blooded killers). She has issues. It truly took me years to get rid of her. We moved to a different town (not because of them but it was a bonus) and my kids (although we are in the same school district as before and they'll see her kids again in high school ugg) were told to stay away from them at all costs. I had another friend (she is an attorney) that would not break ties with this woman because she was afraid of what she would do to her family! Notice I said I HAD another friend; I broke ALL ties with this woman she was that creepy. I even have a friend that is a police officer (we all had kids in the same class at one point) and she will have nothing to do with this lady as she thinks she's crazy and doesn't know what she will do. That should say it all. |
