Seriously. now I have a question for you, in what is going on today with all American's going through and the how life is so short and you never know what tomorrow will bring. This is what is bothering you and making you so upset. How about people who are not from this country and misprounce words and do not say they abc's correctly does that bother you also. Cause my mom is from Bulgaria, she has been in this country since she was 18 however, her accent and the way she pronounces words never ever would bother me and that goes for my best friend who was born in Spain. She then lived in Miami and has lived in the states since she was 16 and again the way she talks I could care less, life is too short. This thread totally upset me to see how upset you are by something so so simple. Geesh take a chill pill. No one talks perfect. Not even me. I was born in Brooklyn, am a native new yawker and for the past 23 years have lived in Long Island, so between all those places you should hear me talk, ..... Again take a breath life is too short...... Peace. Catherine

2. You of all people know this is a place to come to vent and say what's on your mind. It's a place to say things you can't say IRL 3.to the OP -- my MIL did the "Y" sound instead of "H" -- I always thought it was odd, too.

Who spit in Catherine's coffee this morning? OP, I totally know what you mean about pronunciation. It sucks when you have to decode a conversation. I HATE calling AT&T because I can't understand their customer service people through their think accents.

jm19, I'm with you! I also cringe when I hear other words - like "AXE" instead of "ask" and "ofTen" for "often" (yes, it's a silent "t") But I know I'm guilty of a word mispronunciation that annoys many - I try my best to say "jew*EL*ry" instead of "jewl*ER*y"... I also want to add - jm19 doesn't complain about ANYTHING. She's been here forever, and she is nothing but nice. So if she has something to gripe about for once, I say the floor is all hers...

Sorry but no one spit in my coffee, first off lol I only drink Tea. Also like I said if this is what truly bothers this person then I am sorry but again life is way too short to get upset over just a little little thing like she did. Perhaps I take it personally because as a mom to a sick child who among his heart defects, he lives with being Lactose Intolorent. IBs and Chrons Disease. NOw that is alot to be upset about. I guess its all comes down to what is really important in life, without your health and love. life stinks, again this is me and I guess today is a bad day as to term of someone spitting into my coffee, cause today health wise my Son THomas had a very rough day and that truly is something to get upset over... "Although it is still sometimes criticized, often with a /t/[t] is now so widely heard from educated speakers that it has become fully standard once again." For the life of me, I don't know if I say it with or without the silent t. The more I think about, the more unsure I become. I do say "jew*EL*ry", but it feels wrong...I think because I grew up saying jewlry...sounded most like "juhrry" How about "iron"? Anyone? I say "eye-urn" unless I'm really conscious of how I'm pronouncing it. Sandy |

I had a friend from Canada and she had a hard time pronouncing her H`s and people always made fun of her but you know something, English was her second language. I don`t have a second one. How many of you do. (I really dont want to know, just making a point.( I really wish people would stop making fun of people who use the wrong words or say words wrong. Chill out. nancy

Njfl loved your post. Like I said no one is perfect in their speech and to get that upset over how someone pronouces a word is so small in reality of whats more important.

I'm sorry that I upset some of you. I do know that this is a minor thing compared to all of the world's woes. I could have complained about all of that and gotten everyone more upset and worried than we already are on that subject. I could have complained about the stroke I had in February and the fact that I now cannot use the fingers on my right hand as much as I'd like to and constantly have a tingly feeling in my face and right arm and hand. I could have complained about the fact that my 68 year old husband with heart problems is going to have to go back to work and I am very afraid for him. Instead I chose a silly little thing that bugs me. I also could have gone thru everyone else's posts and picked them apart. I'm sorry that I didn't realize that you would rather see only gloom and doom on this board!

Sometimes when you are dealing with a lot of really "serious" issues (like you seem to be), it's the smallest of things that you have a low tolerance for. In the midst of all that I'm dealing with--I wonder how come I'm the only one that notices that the toilet paper is out in the bathroom! ![]() And it really irks me!

jm- I'm sorry that you're having such a tough time personally right now. I didn't take your post negatively - I've always enjoyed your posts, even tho I mostly lurk here. I think we all have little things that bug us. Given as much doom and gloom as there is in the world right now, we can all use a little levity, which is how I took your post, and responded in kind. I hope things are looking up for you soon. Take care of yourself & hubby. Sandy in DE |

I know where you're coming from, jm. Sometimes I like to take my little pet peeves our and give them a good petting. Sometimes you feel better if you just rant about something little that just annoys the heck out of you. It won't change anything but it lets you get some of your frustration out in a harmless way. I'm not feeling really ranty today but I'll join you with this: I hate it when people go around sniffing all the time. Get a tissue and blow your damn nose already! Makes me crazy! Whew, sometiems it just feels good to gripe.

How about when people say "hwen" for when, and "hware" for where ??? Didn't drive me cray, I just wondered where they learned that pronunciation? Very interesting listening to people speak.
