Mmmmmm ~ I loved Marathon Bars!!

Anyone rememer the TV show Alias Smith & Jones? I was so in love with Ben Murphy!

I remember playing with pea shooters. I'm amazed none of us in our neighborhood ever choked on the balls. We used to run around having all out wars with them.

I was just going to post Love's Baby Soft!

Anywho:

* Tickle deodorant (large ball, roll-on)
* "Ancient Chinese Secret, Huh?"
* Jovan musk
* lip smackers
* the "other" popular lip gloss in a sliding metal tin
* Avon used to also have an assortment of lip "stuff" - I had a hamburger, a pair of lips, a lip gloss inside something that looked like a pack of stick chewing gum, a chocolate covered cherry...

They've released the first four seasons of Emergency on DVD. Were there more than four? Anyway, the husband LOVED that show, so we've got the DVD's.

Of course, now that I try to remember things, not much is coming to mind. I remember Orbitz (a drink with odd floating blobs in it), and pale blue nail polish, which gives you an approximate idea how old I am. They rereleased the nail polish as 'vintage' a year or two ago!

Would you believe I watched it yesterday? We have a local TV station that's run by Liberty University that shows only G-rated shows (Leave it To Beaver, Emergency, Quincy MD, Marcus Welby). Well, yesterday I turned it on and there was Alias Smith & Jones. It was so funny. And what's so nice about these shows on this station is there's no bad language -- just good shows.

Now to add to the thread:

*Roller skates that you put on your shoes and tighten with a key
*Dr. Pepper in glass bottles and putting peanuts in them
*Going to the neighborhood store and buying 5 cent bags of potato chips and 10 cent Cokes
*Playing outside all day and not coming in till dark
*Playing outside after dark while mom and dad sit on the front porch watching us kids catch lightening bugs in a jar
*All the ladies in our community helping each other with their gardens, having bean shelling get-togethers in the mornings while we kids played together. This was so much fun. Then whoever's house you went to, the mom served lunch. Lots of fun talk among the women. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. I would have so enjoyed this!
*The Monkees!
*The Tom Jones Show
*Watching Gunsmoke with my dad on Saturday nights and he'd fix ginger ale and ice cream sodas. YUM!
*Hot Dr. Pepper in the wintertime
*Playing jacks (do they even make those anymore?)
*Hulla Hoops
*American Bandstand

I was born in the '50's. It was definitely a different time back then. A much slower way of life.

That was one Christmas present I never used.

I remember lots of things everyone posted about.
I also collected the Wacky Packages ,and Welcome Back Kotter cards.
Had the Mood ring,Crissy doll.
I loved my banana seat bike with the pretty basket, horn, and light.
Also owned my very own Pet Rock !
I loved that Mutual Of Omaha wild kingdom show.
Some kid in our school use to sell those psychodelic plastic balloons made from blowing a glob through a stick. And the other kids would actually buy them!

Oh gosh, I remember fruit stripe gum ! & how about those shows for teens back in the day on a Saturday afternoon. Shows like " Isis " & "Shazam !"...

OMG! Photo mats !

How about these ? Portable hair dryers with the hose and bonnet you wore ?

Phone booths with a phone book on a cord ? The light came on when you shut the door. I'd call my sister in one on the corner when I was a teen in DC..now I shudder to think how vulnerable I looked inside there..all alone,..lit up like that on a dark night...

Remember if you did not get to the bank by Friday you did not have money for the weekend ?

Remember "KISSING POTION" = that greasy, slippery clear stuff in the roll on clear bottle?

YUMMY!

I also loved that Tickle deodorant - I used to buy the pink one, but it never dried. Ever.

I liked Farrah Faucet Shampoo, Fabrege Organic Shampoo, and Silkience Conditioner (remember the commercial "Silkience: the Science of Conditioning Your Hair..." They made this conditioner look so high tech. A pretty Asian girl named "Chisa" only needed it on the ends. The rest washed clean away..."

I also remember getting a McDonald's meal way cheaper than this! In fact, every year we would buy a book of McDonald's gift certificats - they came in a book of 10 for $5.00 - In the commercial, they said that giving someone a (yes, just ONE) gift certificate was "like giving someone a hamburger for Christmas!"

I also remember these cereals that we used to love - one was called "Body Buddies" and the other was called "Freaky Cereal."

Crazy Cow cereal-I actually found a coupon for it in an old magazine at a thrift store one day! I bought it.

Prizes in cereal that were actually cool-the little license plates in Honeycomb, the "pinch to open" coin purses in Fruity Pebbles, the little terrarium in Sugar Smacks, the baking soda submarine in Cap'n Crunch, etc.

Picture Pages with Bill Cosby during Captain Kangaroo

The Electric Company

Schoolhouse Rock when it was actually on tv. I do have the dvd set of these, still awesome!

The super-creepy Mr. YUK commercial. This might not have been nationwide maybe only a PA thing since Mr. Yuk was started by Pittsburgh Children's Hospital. If you haven't seen it, check for it on youtube. Still freaks me out.

I remember those Italian Ices. I don't remember a yellow cup. Thought it was white. We squeezed the ices out and ate them. Yummy. But that might have been a NY thing because I never saw them again after moving to California.

And what about Charlotte Reusse?

For those old enough, here's a site to bring back memories. But I have a feeling most of you are too young to remember these shows.
Oldies Television: The Great TV Shows From The 50's And 60's

I remember going down to the candy store to get a phone call. We didn't have phones in our homes.

And then there was everyone gathered in the living room of a neighbor who happened to have a small black & white TV.

Later, when we got our own tv's, watching Howdy Doody, Milton Berle, Our Miss Brooks, Juvenile Jury, The Children's Hour, Hopalong Cassidy

How about gas station attendants pumping the gas in your car and also washing the windshield?

Taking empty bottles & cans back to the store you bought them. And the clerk knew you by name

I just remembered some others:

*Laundry detergent that had a 'prize' in it, like a towel. I think it was Tide that used to do this. This was a really long ago.

*Green stamps. My mom would save green stamps and she'd let me lick them and put them in the book. Then when she had some books filled, we'd go down to the green stamp store and mom would pick out a kitchen appliance or something.

lol yeah I remember the detergents now too, we didnt have a washer/dryer at home so we'd go to the laundry mat and mom would buy detergent with a book in it so when I'd start getting antsy she could give me the book for something else to do and youd turn the pages and the smell of soap would about knock you down lol

S & H Green stamps. How many of those did I lick and put in the books? All that work to help, then she dragged me to the store with her to get something I wasn't at all excited about. Remember the machines at the grocery store that spit out those stamps? They always reminded me of a very fancy rotary phone dial. What? A rotary phone?

Yes! I just remembered something else. How about phones where you'd have to wait till the other party got off the line? Party lines is what they were called. Very few people had a 'private line'. You'd pick up the phone to call and have to listen to see if someone else was talking first! We had a lady in our neighborhood who used to be the gossip and she'd listen to everybody's phone conversations and then tell everyone! My mom would be talking to someone and she'd hear a 'click' and she'd say something like 'well, I believe we have someone else listening on the line.'

Oh, those were the days!

The flash bulb cameras, with the bulbs that you had to buy in the strip box for on top of the camera. You turned them (or if you were really advanced, I think they had the ones that turned by themselves..LOL).

And 110 film.

OMG.. LOL!!! Did that bring back memories. For a long time, I thought our home was the S&H Green stamps store. I had to think about the machine they used to come out of (the stamps) and then I remembered it! WOW!

Another one...

Remember the detergent with the free towels that came inside the box? It was always so much fun to try and get the towel out without spilling the detergent all over the place. LOL
