Smile Do you buy bottled water?

We became rather dependent upon bottled spring water over time, grabbing it for practices/games/car trips, etc. I always have kept a couple of cases in the extra frig.

I decided recently not to "stock" it anymore, and am so glad I did. There are the obvious ecological benefits, the financial savings, not having to lug those cases around. I have explained to my kids that we survived just fine without it for many years, and they will adjust!

We still grab one occasionally when we're out and about & haven't bought our reusable water bottles, especially since the kids don't drink soda.

occasionally, too much plastic and other trash all over as it is. Watched a show one time that my son was watching and it was about how long it'd take the earth to get back to it's original state before humans and their plastic and other trash.

We used to, we went through about 10 gallon jugs a week, plus about a case of the 20 oz bottles. Our water here tastes and smells awful. We bought a couple of Brita pitchers and really like them. They're significantly cheaper, produce less waste and the water still tastes great.

I don't, except when we're out and need something in the car. I drink way too much to even think about that! We did briefly think about getting bottled water delivered, like one of those 5 gallon jugs with a dispenser but considering I could probably drink one of those bottles in one day, that's just way too much lol

Also when we travel sometimes I have to buy bottled water because water in a new place can make me feel sick until I get used to it.

We bought a reverse osmosis system a few years ago, thinking since I drank so much, it would be better for me, but I couldn't drink it! It was too sweet, I don't like sweet water.

We're the same as you.

We got into the habit of having it on hand and the girls would grab a couple to go to soccer practice or games. I kept telling them I didn't want them drinking the Ozarkas because I like to have them on hand for when we travel, but they kept doing it. So I quit buying it a few months ago.

We have a whole plastic tub full of reusable water bottles. We also have an ice maker and filter on the fridge, so it doesn't take much effort to make a water bottle for practices and games.

I do have a partial case on hand for when we go out of town for the weekend. I don't like hotel water or campsite water. I have threatened them to leave it alone though! It is ONLY for travel!

I will only drink Crystal Geyser water it's the only one that is national that is actually spring water the rest are mostly "sink water" from somewhere.

We buy it by the gallon and use our own mugs/glasses/cups/travel cups.

I do not trust the Britta or other filters because if the water company cannot clean the water with millions of dollars of equipment how can a $20 filter help me? Or if the $20 filter works so well why don't they use it at the water company?

I do feel bad about the plastic but I watch my health and I am not drinking any nasty chlorine tasting sediment containing gross liquid.

The only other water I will drink is water pumped directly from source. When we go camping there are places you can pump it out and we fill up all our gallons with it.

Poland springs is another that is actually spring water. They get it directly from the spring all other brands are tap water.

I have a few cases in the basement "for emergencies". We drink tap water and it's just fine. I do have a few bottles in fridge in case the kids have a field trip and need something they can toss (ie: no thermos). I do buy bottles before a yard sale and sell it with soda (and make more on the drinks than the items usually LOL).

I saw a show once where they had "loyal" bottled water users because their water was "yucky" or "bad tasting", etc. They had a hidden taste test. 3 different brands and NY city tap water. I believe only 3 people named their brand correctly and over 75% prefered the city tap water to the bottled in terms of taste. They couldn't believe it LOL

To drink it daily and buy it is such a waste to me. I have better things to spend my money on (like gas)

We've used a pitcher filter or a faucet filter for years. We use refillable bottles. The only time I buy bottled spring water is when we're traveling.

There's definitely more than one brand of spring water. There are also several brands that are only filtered water. Sometimes the spring water brands come from the same company but the name varies by region.

I go through about a case a week. I drink at least 4 bottles of water a day while at work and the water there tastes funny so I will not drink it. At home, I drink tap water.

the water company is required to supply you with safe drinking water. That's its job. That doesn't mean the water they supply you with will taste good. I use the Britta because while I know that my tap water meets all necessary requirements and is safe to drink, it tastes terrible. The Britta filters out whatever causes my tap water to taste foul to me. My DH prefers it straight out of the faucet.

THe only time we buy bottled water is on our 12 hour long car trips to visit my family.

Bottled water has contaminants too, study finds - Yahoo! News

According to this article, bottled water is no better than tap water.

To answer your question - I drink bottled water (Deer Park). I don't like the taste of our well water, but am trying to make the switch to tap to save money and reduce the amount of plastic.

Our local water not only tastes bad - but you can smell it when you run the tap. Its so highly chlorinated that for me to wash my hair without having my eyes turn red and get swollen sore (I'm sensative to chlorine fumes, can't even swim in most commercial pools) we have to have a special filter on the shower.

We used to use my mom's well water, but first her well got contaminated with particulants due to nearby new construction and now I refuse to use it until she gets it tested for quality. If you make coffee, tea, pasta, rice etc with our water you can taste it in the end product. So for awhile we were buying bottled water, plus we had a filter on the kitchen tap for those quick emergencies (need 1/4 cup water etc).

I don't feel so bad about buying the water because we've got curb side recycling built into our trash pick up and I recycle every single bottle. We even bring them back home with us if we take one away from home or purchase one out and recycle the bottles. Recently though target had the pink "Breast Cancer" pitchers in a big size on sale for like $26? Thats a big savings from their normal pitcher prices. If you buy the big box of filters it runs around $5 to filter 40 gallon. We tried just using the pitcher but believe it or not you can still taste the chlorine etc (and that wasn't even a bad week, sometimes our water is different colors etc). We did a blind taste test with my mom - unfiltered, filtered with the pitcher and bottled. And yes, she identified them correctly - only had to smell the unfiltered to know which it was. So now we're running it through the sink filter which is rated for 3 months, then the pitcher and its pretty good. I'm still keeping some on hand though for emergencies.

Same here!! I was raised in the city and love city water. I know it sounds crazy but...

I cannot stand our well water! YUCK! It just "tastes funny". I buy bottled water all the time. My whole family drinks bottled water. It gets expensive but, I can't buy bottled water for myself and tell everyone else to drink the tap water. My DH grew up with well water so it doesn't bother him. He likes the bottled water for convenience.

I think the well water/city water all depends on what you're use to--what you drank growing up, maybe?

When we were in Georgia I would just buy a case for my daughter to have for lunch. I loved the tap water there.
Once we moved to Virginia I buy several cases (Dasani or Aquafina) at a time. We have well water and I think it is just awful. Last week I purchased a giant plastic fridge container (Poland Springs) and I really liked it. It is cheaper than than the cases and I am able to fill up my daughters water bottle for soccer.

I love Evian and SmartWater but only buy them occasionally, I have a PUR filter on my tap in the kitchen so I drink that most of the time ~ I did get a reusable safe water bottle that had 8 packs of Crystal light in it at Walmart on clearance for $1.50 not too long ago though.
