Does anyone else feed strays?

I started feeding strays last year. I had been wanting to do it for years, but the EX wouldn't allow it

So far it's only cats/kittens and squirrles. It's so cute watching the squirrels come up on the porch and nibble dry cat food
I kinda feel like Snow White with all the animals in the forrest.

I sometimes wonder if I am slowly turning into a "cat lady" Will I be 80, alone, no friends except the neighbourhood cats?!

We took in a stray kitten a few weeks ago, so now we have a dog, a kitten, and 3 guinea pigs. and then this afternoon we drove into the drive way to see like 10 squirrels and my favorite little critters the chipmunks. The chipmuks are so used to me feeding them if i go out onto the porch and start calling "Chippy" I'll get three up onto the porch waiting to be given treats they wont let me hand feed them but they'll let me get pretty close to them, except their a little upset I allow the kitten in the yard

Yes, we feed alot of stray cats. If they are tame enough and I can catch them, we take them in for shots and to get spayed or nuetered also. That is how we got all our inside cats.

I also started naming them, didn't want to admit that though

There's a tortoise shell cat that I call Speckles, who eats here everyday, she's so sweet and small. None of the strays around her are skinny though!

I have a racoon family mama and 4 babies I feed every night. They come to the door and rattle their dishes for dinner. I have a couple of wild feral cats I feed 2xs a day. There is a skunk who comes for a snack every now and then and finally I have a family of deer a mama and 2 babies. Those I feed apples, hay and sweet feed I love to watch them all eat. My DH thinks I am crazy but I just love them all. I think they are beautiful.

Yes. Before we moved, I would feed the squirrels. Actually would have then sit next to me and take the peanut out of my hand. (took YEARS to do that). Also fed a stray cat who adopted us. I even named some of the squirrels too. I'm an animal lover so I'll fed them anytime.

We don't have any stray cats around here. I think most of the cats around here are inside cats. You don't see many cats outside anymore. If we did have strays I would feed them. My dad has a lot of strays but they are racoons and skunks lol.

Yes we have a stray and she is the best mouser we have. She brings us treats and she loves to set in our laps. Just this morning she gave us a mouse. Hubby was not happy when the dog brought it inside. LOL!! She comes when we call her so I guess you could say she is part of our family.

I wish I could. but my complex says we can be evicted for feeding strays (I don't legally think they can do that, but I am not going to tempt them).

That is how I got my little kitty Audrey. She was a stray last summer & when I started getting cold, I couldn't stand to see her outside. She was 4-6 months old, and only weighed 4 lbs. Now she weighs 8, and is snoozing by my feet on the bed. She is such a good girl!

There are no strays here by me but I donate to the spca and paws and Attend thier fundraisers which are normally chinese auctions.

My friend does take care of strays and goes further then just feeding them.. She is currently feeding 3 stray cats/kittens. She even went as far as to call a lady that lives near her and works for "paws" which is like spca and had the 2 females fixed. Next she is getting the male fixed. She has 2 kittens(born in the spring) living in her garage and has them litter box trained and she has the other female who is thier mom basically living on her back porch. She said the Momma cat wants nothing to do with the kittens though now. She also found two more kittens at the abandoned house across the street from her house and took them to the same lady from paws who took them to a foster mom.

No way, my MIL does though and she has so many cats around there it's disgusting! They are mean too, they only like her since she feeds them. Then they have kittens and they are all inbreed and sick. NO thank you, I would much rather bring food to a shelter than live in the cat box that has become her house.

Sorry, that seems harsh, but this is the future, she's done it for years and in the beginning it wasn't too bad but slowly the problem has grown. She has even caught each of them and gotten them fixed, but she's missed one here or there and that's all it takes. There's no stopping it and she feels to guilty to stop feeding them. They don't even go on vacation because no one will " feed the cats".

No.

Well, ok, I did feed 1 but it was for a greater good. My old neighbors were a crazy bunch of white trash and one day they just left(not sure if they moved or wound up in rehab/the looney bin/prison but that's another story)and a short while later I started noticing a black and white cat hanging out around their trailer. After a few days the cat started hanging around my porch so I talked to it when I came in from work one day and it ran over to the neighbors house and sat on the back steps by the door and meowed to be let in. Uh, oh. Kitty got left behind to fend for herself and obviously wasn't used to doing so.
So, I started feeding her in the evening while trying to get someone to take her in. No dice. So I called a local no-kill shelter and took her there. It cost me $25 in cash and a bunch of supplies but it was worth it. The shelter didn't require a donation but I was very attached to her by then, she looked just like a cat I currently own, and wanted to be sure she was taken care of.

But as a rule I don't feed strays because the whole situation just gets waaayyyy out of hand.

If I had stray cats I would feed them. If there were a stray dog I would take him/her in. I would not feed any wildlife except for birds and squirrels but we literally have no squirrels in our town. Other wildlife should not be fed they will depend on humans for food and they will become bolder and bolder.

No way! I definitely wouldn't feed stray dogs or cats. I would say no to most wild animals too, especially squirrels, chipmunks, and raccoons. The only animal I would consider feeding are the deer we have in the woods behind our house....not doing that right now, though, because I know the neighbors a couple of doors down do that (plus it would probably ruin my chance of ever having a garden here!).
