1/3 less Coke & Pepsi

How nice. New are the 8 packs of Coke and Pepsi canned products I am seeing.

How nice. The price is essentially the same as 12 packs, but with 1/3 less product.

How nice.

Are you referring to the dinky little cans they came out with? I dont know why anyone would pay the same price as the reg. size can for less.

No, she's talking about the fact that the 12 pack of cans is now an 8 pack for the same damn price! It sucks big time!! I ran to BJ's and bought two 36 packs of Diet Pepsi for $8.79 each before they changed those too!

The only problem with the diet soda is that it does lose it's flavor after some time, so check those expiration dates before you stock up!

Gosh, I haven't seen that yet. Food Lion has them on sale right now. I was going to buy them, so I'll see if it's the 12 pack or 8 pack.

Perhaps it's time to do a little letter-writing to Coke??

No, I am not discussing the smaller cans. I am discussing, as listed, the 8 packs of canned products.

Maybe I should write them and let them know how this new marketing gimmick really is good for the consumer. They are helping me realize I don't need to buy or drink as much pop. Also, that it won't take me long to realize that I don't need to drink as much pop, and I will stop buying it. What schmucks to sell it at the same price as the 12 packs.

I know products have been being downsized for some time now, but to take it from 8 to 12.....geez!

I recently cut down from 2 cans of diet a day to one.....guess it was a good time to do that, at least my 36 packs will last longer!

Well, pardon me for living and not being a mind reader. You didn't say how many ounces were in the cans so how was I to know what you were talking about???

We haven't bought canned Cokes in quite some time. We buy just the 2 liter bottles.

makes me SO glad we stopped buying soda about 1.5 years ago. I used to drink about 4 diet sodas a day and now drink coffee and water...only get soda as a special treat when I've out to eat and it comes with the meal.

I know downsizing is on the rage right now but that's a HUGE downsize...most are trying to be sneaky and hope you don't notice a few ounces lost or a different package but to lose that much...bad move (unless ALL companies do it...then you don't have a choice in brands that provide more)

dl, have you tried any of the generic store brands? I think the best are the costco and walmart brands.

So maybe now's the time to quit drinking it. Pop is just legal poison. Think about why you drink it and if your life would be better or worse without it. I have know people who did not do a minute of exercise nor did they lower their food intake but they lost 20 sometimes more just by quitting pop.
Here we are talking about saving money and pop is just a big waste of money.

Here's how I look at it. It's practically my only vice and it's diet soda. I don't drink, I don't smoke, etc. We all have our things we won't give up. One of mine is the one Diet Pepsi I have a day. I can't speak for the consumption of others.

I guess I mistakenly assume that most people who drink pop do so all day long. Sorry.

If the kids and DH had their way, soda is all they would drink. DH stopped drinking it at home about a month ago. But, when we go visiting family, it's all they have I bring drinks along when we go.

The down side is that now DH has upped his chocolate milk intake

I haven't seen the smaller packages around here yet.

DH likes diet Pepsi, I like diet Coke. So, I keep both on hand. If they reduce the size but not the price, I may have to rethink drinking it as well. He takes 1 a day in his lunch. I usually drink 1, sometimes 2 a day (unless I go our for a meal, then I usually have another one!)

I've often thought we should quit drinking it, but like another poster above, we don't smoke and we drink some, but not a lot. I enjoy my diet cokes! I don't want to give them up.

I haven't seen them here yet but I don't buy the soda here very often. If I do, I get store brand 2 liters. Dh usually buys it since I don't think of it as a necessity so I only buy it maybe once a month or so. I only drink water , juice or tea myself.
I'll have to look at the coke and pepsi products tomorrow and see if that's what's here too.

Saw that for the first time the last time I was at Target (Sunday), but they also still had the 12 packs for bout 60 cents more. I guess they are hoping we won't notice, and when we do we will just accept it. what a rip off!

Thanks for the suggestion. There is no Costco here, and I only go to Walmart when I have coupons for something I know I can get for free.....that being said, I am going to try and quit. Pepsi is my vice, as far as drinks, other than water.

I got a lot of Crystal Light free with coupons recently that was headed for the food bank, but now I am going to try it and see if I can make something like that my new liquid vice.

I emailed Pepsi this morning to voice (type) my displeasure. I await their response, knowing that nothing will change, but I will feel better for letting them know I noticed and I am not pleased.

I've also noticed that the price of COKE and PEPSI is outrageous lately. Remember when you could get a 12 pack for $2.50? I was in Publix today and a 12 pack was $4.xx I just haven't bought any lately although I love it. I wonder if the price will ever go down again? ~Lisa

When I was in Safeway yesterday I spoke to the gentleman stocking the Pepsi products. He said that most "Pepsi" employees don't agree with the change. They will also be doing away with the 24 packs.....they are going to 8 and 18. I asked if he heard whether Coke, etc would be changing, he said he heard, no, they are going to wait and see what happened. In Safeway they ONLY had the 8 and 18 packs but he told me WalMart would still have the 12 and 24 packs..but only for another week. He did say he encourages anyone who asks to let the company know how you feel about it.

I haven't seen the 8pks yet, but I have seen the 18pks. . . WTH?? I also bought beer for the first time in along time the other day and notcied they all had 20pks instead of 24pks. Downsizing has been happening for along time, but it really has seemed to ramp up lately.

I bought a med pop at McDonald's the other day and I swear the cup is smaller. I worked at McD's all thru high school and part of college. . .a medium size cup was 21oz forever. I'm sure the cup I had the other day wasn't 21oz. I'm not 100% sure it wasn't just me, but I SWEAR it was smaller.

I was Diet Coke free for about 8 yrs, but then it slowly started sneaking back into my diet. I swear it's like crack! I'm not a coffee drinker at all, but it might be time to go back to iced tea. I need caffiene. . .lol!

I was at Publix & Target today. Publix had the 8 pks for $2.99 "on sale" and the 18 packs for $6.29. I think Target had them for 3/$9 which the same I guess. It works out to about .34 a can. I at least was able to pick up 2 36 packs at BJ's for $8.79 each, which works out to about .24 a can. That should hold me for awhile unless DH "helps" me drink it...lol

BTW, I did notice that none of the Coke products had gone to the 8 pack in either place. As much as I love my Diet Pepsi I may have to switch to Coke Zero, which to me is more like DP than Diet Coke.. (bleah)

LOL! I just came home from the store and they had it in the 24pk! It was cheaper than the two liters. . .which they didn't have it in anyway. I snatched up the 24pk.

Here is the reply I received. I don't know who they asked, obviously it wasn't me !

Thank you for contacting us at the Pepsi-Cola Company.

I am so sorry for your disappointment regarding our new packaging and would like to share some of the reasons that prompted the change. As you may imagine, because of the economy, we've had to make some adjustments to our pricing and packaging. Rather than simply raise prices, we’ve done some problem solving around packaging. Our consumers tell us that the 8-pack and 18-pack sizes are good options.

Please know that the new package sizes will continue to be featured with promotional pricing as often as possible throughout the year.

Again, I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience these changes may have caused you. I'm so glad you contacted us and promise to share your concerns with our packaging team as well as local bottlers. And thank you, always, for being such a loyal and valued consumer.

Love the reply from Pepsi! So they 'asked' their consumers and the consumers said they wanted the 8 pack and 18 pack. Uh huh.. sure......

They didn't even offer you coupons or anything?? Wow, they are cheap!
