Walmart Hair Salon?

Has anyone gotten their hair cut there? I was considering getting my hair trimmed up... i don't think I would trust them to color it.

In my area all the stylists come from the same beauty school but I would think "If they are good why are they working at WalMart when they could be making a ton more money in a different salon?"
Sorry to be a kill joy but I would trust the beauty school more they have teachers right there to keep track of what's going on.

I believe if the salon is actually owned and operated by WalMart (ours has a Cost Cutters salon and the workers aren't Walmart employees) then they would be eligible for benefits the likely wouldn't get working at a local salon... probably some retirement and health insurance, for instance. That might mean that a pretty good stylist would opt to work there regardless of the prestige factor.

I went to a beauty college a few years ago.. and I came home crying! I am not one to make a fuss over my hair.. I wash it, brush it..maybe pin it up or back or whatever and go. I don't curl it or blowdry it or even use hairspray...I'm boring I know hahah
Anyway... I was SO unhappy with how the student did it. I asked for 2 inches trimmed off and she cut off 6 or more.. I had been talked into getting my first and last perm, it was to be a spiral perm. The girl was unhappy to give me one.. my hair is long and thick the perm stuff she used was awful.. it burnt my hair and dried my scalp up....before that I had very oily hair.. afterwards for at least 10 years I had dry hair and scalp..no oil! :O It just recently got back oily again.
All I want is a shampoo and trim..dead ends mostly...I'm trying to grow my hair really long again.

Hair salons inside Wal-Mart are not owned or operated by WM. The same goes for the vision shop. The spaces are leased. The same applies with whatever bank or eating establishment is located in WM.

Are you sure about that, genichols? I only ask because we use the vision center, and it's called the WalMart Vision Center. Our receipt is a WalMart receipt, as well.

The hair place is definitely Cost Cutters and the eatery is definitely Subway.... but the vision center seemed to be WM owned.

Vision centers may very well be, I've never noticed that closely. The vision centers in Sam's is leased and the prices at the local store stink.
I looked this up and the vision center is WM, however, the optometrist is independent.

I think they're all owned separately and not a part of Wal-Mart. (They probably pay rent to Wal-Mart).

The vision center in our two Wal-Marts are separately owned. Reason I know is because I called one to see if they were on our vision insurance for DH eyeglasses. We called both Wal-Marts. One vision center was; the other one wasn't.

I know the nail salons are owned separately, too. My sister and I used to go to one at Wal-Mart and the owner and her husband won the lottery. They closed up their shop then and moved to Florida. It stayed empty for quite a while. Now someone else has opened up with a different name.

As for getting my hair done at Wal-Mart, OP, why don't you watch some of the stylists and see what people's hair looks like when they come out of there before you make the decision to go in? I would never go to someone without first finding out how well they cut hair and their experience.

The actual vision center--the retail part is part and parcel of Wal-Mart. HOWEVER, the eye doctor is independent. He/She leases rents the space from Wal-Mart. And is not an employee of Wal-Mart.

When asking about insurance coverage--you have to be very specific about asking if WAL-MART accepts insurance for glasses (lenses/frames) and/or contacts. The eye doctor may very well, but Wal-Mart generally does not. The reason we were given is that their prices are already low--hence why we took ourselves to Costco who did accept our vision insurance for purchase of glasses and/or contacts.

The hair salons at our two local Walmarts are called Smart Style. They have nothing to do with Walmart and are owned by Regis Hair. They aren't much cheaper than any other salon. In fact, the last time I had my hair highlighted their, it cost me $75. They did a great job, and I was happy with it, but it wasn't *cheap*.

The hair salon at the WalMart I go to is called Smart Style, too. I buy products there, but don't get my hair done there.

I'm not sure if I am the right person to give a suggestion on this because I have had every length and color imaginable, from 1 inch, bunny fur white to waist length auburn.
But, when I decided to go from short to long and only wanted to get a trim to grow out layers and keep the frizzies away I went to a barber.
I told him what I was doing and what I needed from him and he did it. It was inexpensive and his ego was not involved.
Just a thought.

This is great advice. I'm a hairdresser and 2 girls I went to cosmetology school with work at Smart Style. Straight out of school, if you don't have a clientele, you go in the hole quick paying booth rent in a more upscale salon. I think Smart Style, ProCuts, Snip n Clip, etc hire recent grads because they are almost 100% walk ins.

I would defintely go to a barber shop, and have many times over the years, if you're growing your hair out. The savings are great and you'll get just what you ask for. One note, they probably won't blow you out or style you!! Or shampoo either, probably just a misting and a cut, you'll leave wet headed. That's how it was for me anyways.

I went to my Wal-Mart to get my hair cut - it was a good job, but not really styled like you would get at a high-end salon and pay $100 for.

Technically, the place my family goes to for trims is a barber shop. Although shampoo, cut, dry, style are all available. The one man in the shop does mostly men's cuts. The woman does men and women trims and styles. There is also a cosmetologist on staff that does perms and colors. The woman barber does perms also but I believe it's just for very long standing older women customers.

I guess the thing to do is see how much they charge, compare it to other salons in your area then decide if which is the best value for you.
