Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

We were thinking about getting one of these for our dds for Christmas. I noticed Walmart is currently stocked up on both and thought about going ahead and buying it early to avoid possible hunting for one later. One dd has mentioned she likes Guitar Hero, the other, of course, mentioned Rock Band.

I haven't played either one. Aren't they basically the same thing? Anyone have any preference or knowledge of why one is better than the other? Also any sugggestions on what I need in addition. I've heard I have to get an extra guitar so 2 people can play. Does the music come with it?

What do I need to know?

Thanks!
Lisa

Omg , dear this is a hard one. because my children 22, almost 20 and my youngest 16 love them all. May I add so does my oldest child my dh Tommy at age 45. Both systems or games are truly alot of fun. They have friends over who literally fight to play againist each other. I just plainly love them because I get to hear my old rock and roll music play.. Good Luck with the choice... Peace. Catherine

We love Rock Band here. We had the first one and just got the second on Sunday.
I like RB because up to 4 people can play at a time. I think maybe with the new GH you can have other people play together too.

my kids have both rock band and guitar hero. Rock band doesnt come with a guitar, it comes with the drums. I would buy rock band, buy the rock band dvd, and then buy a guitar. Then your kids can play atthe same time, b/c the rock band dvd plays with the guitar. But you cant play the drums with the guitar hero dvd. HTH..

Both of our RB 1 & 2 came with a guitar. They came with the game disc, drum set, microphone, and a guitar.
Our first drum set broke so that is why we went ahead and bought the whole set again when RB2 came out.

I have to say rock band! We all love it here! Just an hint for you and everyone else. If you buy an usb hub (4 port) you can play all 4 things at one time! You can get this at target, walmart, ect. There fairly cheap ( I just got one for 2.50 at target). You can hook all 4 into the hub, the just plug the hub into the system! The brand I got was GE and its pink. Hope this helps!

Just wanted to add that yesterday I was in Game Stop and they had used guitars for sale. They ranged from 19.xx to 24.xx. I don't know what a new one would cost, am also interested in getting the Guitar hero for Wii and buying an extra guitar so the girls can play each other. I will say having this Wii has been the best thing, we all as a family every night play games. No more sitting around watching tv...lol...well except for last night b/c of Survivor and Greys Antomy(sp)..lol.

We have both and all of the Guitar Hero games. We started with Guitar Hero, but once we got rock band, my son stopped playing Guitar Hero pretty much. Either one will be enjoyed, but preference here is also Rock Band. Plus more people can play. If you buy the bundle with the microphone, guitar, and drums, 3 people can play.

Thanks for all the input. It sounds like Rock Band may have inched past Guitar Hero, but I'm still not sure yet what we're going to do. Thanks for all the opinions!

Does anyone have the Guitar Hero for a Nintendo DS? My oldest dd said she wanted it. So, like Lisa, I saw it at WM and thought I'd buy early to have one gift out of the way. Later as we're shopping, I point to it and said "isn't that what you wanted?" Her reply: "I don't want that anymore". LOL....just my luck. So would it be worth keeping? Maybe she'll love it anyway? I've never played either RB or GH but both look fun. The DS game was $50 so if anyone has this and could tell me if it's good or not, I'd appreciate it. I can always take it back and get her a couple of other games for the same price!

DS has been saving his money forever to get Guitar Hero World Tour Band Set which came out today. Let me tell ya, we had a ball with this thing today. It comes with a guitar, drum set and mic. The songs bring me back to my teens and even though I can't sing we had so much fun. I tried to play the drums but need ALOT of practice to do this. I don't know how these kids pick this stuff up so quickly. I was able to sing....off key, but I was still able to read the words and do a reasonable job. It is a great family game.

We got Guitar Hero World Tour today and it is awesome! Hubby and I played it today for hours. I can't wait to try it with a big group.

I think Rockband would be your best choice. RB comes with a guitar, drums, a microphone. So the dd who wants GH, can still play guitar on RB. My son had GH, but our cousins have RB and we have so much fun when we go to visit, up to 4 people can play RB. It is for us big kids as well as the little one!!
