OMG I just bought a wii and wii fit.

Dh had pre-ordered a game (fall out) at Gamestop. We went in to pick it up and they had gotten in a big order of both Wii's and Wii fits. Everyone that had come in to pick up their games couldn't believe that had them and there was quite a rush. I had been contemplating getting my girls a wii for Christmas but they are more than I ever want to spend. Of course DH was not going to talk me out of it and kept saying if we decide its too much we can always sell it on e-bay for a profit. I never buy things esp. large purchases like this on such a spur of the moment type situation. I don't know whether to jump for joy or have an asthma attack.

What games are good for little girls (4&7)?

This was at the gamestop on Howell Mill if anyone is interested.

Congratulations. You will love it. You will be so glad you bought them. We love out Wii and Fit, so I wouldn't sell either of them.

I have a 4 y.o. & an 8 y.o. Their favorite games are Mario Party 8, MySims, Playground and BoomBlocks. My 4 y.o. also like the Disney Princess game. When we first got our Wii, we got a 2 game pass from Blockbuster (you can have any 2 games out at a time and keep them for as long or short as you like then trade them for 2 more). We used the game pass to try out new games before we bought them. We found that we hated some of the things we thought we would love and loved some games we never would have thought of. I think it saved us a lot of money on games we wouldn't play in the end.

Have fun!
Renee

I have boys ages 5 & 8. My 5 year old especially likes Carnival Games. I've heard that 'Playground' is a lot of fun too. My boys like all the Lego games (Lego Starwars, Indiana Jones & Batman), but that's probably more of a 'boy thing'. I'm getting the 5 year old 'Wii Music' for Christmas. It just came out and looks like fun and also much easier to play than something like Rock Band or Gutair Hero which are for older kids and adults (my BIL has them both and both games are too hard for my kids to play very well).

Let me know how you personally like it. I already think I know how the kids will feel LOL. I have considered a system for Rock Star or Guitar Hero so maybe the Wii just so I could get fit.

Thanks so much for the ideas. I like the game pass idea. I heard/read someone say they got games from the library. Has anyone tried this?

I am going to try to wait until Christmas to get into it but I will let you know about it. My main concern is that I get motion sick very easily. I hope it won't bother me.

I am starting to get excited.

I was at my Game Stop today (to pick up Fallout 3 for my DS too!) and they had 12 Wii in stock....said they got in 20 2 weeks ago and still had the 12. But, got in 12 Wii Fits at the same time and they were gone in 2 days.

I, too, would highly recommend renting games until you know what the family will like and actually USE over and over. Save yourself some money and grief in the long run

My cousin just asked me on Monday to keep my eyes open for one. I was at the mall and GameStop told me they would have some in on Tuesday and to call in the morning and get your name on the list. So I was able to get one for her on Tuesday afternoon.

It's great that you are looking and found one now instead of a month from now when they may be more in demand. I know it's a big purchase, but I think it's better to get one great thing for Christmas, rather than several smaller things. Try to look it that way and I think your kids will be happy with their one big gift.

I recommend renting games also. I would wait though to rent any until after the thrill of wii sports wears off. Make sure you have at least 2 controllers so the girls can play against each other, hubby or you. Get lots of extra batteries, preferably ones that can be recharged. I think your girls will be very happy with this gift.
Have a Merry Christmas,
Judy

We have had one since the day they came out. I bet my dh has probably played it 20 times at the most. It is fun to have friends over and play though. He plays his 360 the most (well, until the RROD happened for the 2nd time).

We have had the RROD twice in our house too....and Microsoft fixed it free of charge both times. And, my DS had to be without it for less than 3 weeks --there and back. They have really been very good about it, even though it is a hassle. However, since DS has PS2, Wii and an XBox too, the wait was even less bother. Also, I see your tag says "lala Land" so you might be from California. I just read that there is a Class Action Law suit regarding the RROD and Microsoft in California. However, we do not intend to join, because Microsoft has been awesome in their response each time we called. The lawsuit apprarently stems from the fact that they say MS knew about this little glitch in advance but did not want to miss the launch because at that time they were competing with PS

Microsoft was great about it, except the box they sent us got lost. So now we have to package up everything. My dh doesn't care, but to me it is the principal of the matter. My dh has every system and game known to mankind, but the 360 is his favorite. He is sending it off one day next week.

I know since I have had to do this twice that all you have to send them is the consolde--take out any faceplate AND THE HARDDRIVE before you send it off. I am sure they will give you a free month of XBOX live for your troubles at the very least.

And ffmom, RROD stands for Red Ring of Death--which boils down to, your system is DEAD in the water.....it is an Xbox thing only.

Could someone please explain what Wii Fit is? It seems like it's some kind of plastic mat or board that you stand while following something in a game..... I am having trouble seeing how there's enough work that can be carried out on a plastic board that will make a real difference to fitness.....but heck, if it works, maybe I can get off the treatmill, elliptical, and weight machines....LOL

It's a small board that detects your shift in weight to play a majority of the games or see how well you do the exercises. DH and I love the yoga because it helps everybody in the family develop better balance and our oldest child is just physically not able to stretch very well. The yoga has really helped him. I wouldn't say this would replace a treadmill (although there is a running game to be done OFF the board) or weight machines. If you're interested in moderate strength training, toning up or developing better balance and flexibility, then it's a good investment.

For our family whose budget is too tight to head to the gym or local Y, it's been a huge hit and is used regularly. I can easily track my weight and BMI and the games are just plain fun for me.

I love our Wii. DH and I like to play games after the kids go to bed. The kids love the Wii too. We bought a Fit for me, guitar hero and rock band for the kids for Christmas. I think I am also going to get the Lego Starwars and the Ligt Saber attachments for the remote. I kinda want the Shawn White game for the Wii. You use the balance board from the Fit as a snowboard to play the game. It looks like A LOT of fun.

As far as games go... We really like Mario Kart, Mario and Sonic and the Olympic ames, Boom Blox. The kids really like My Sims, Sport, Play, and Party.

A bit of advice for you.. get rechargeable batteries for your remotes. You will play the system more then you think.

I see them everywhere now. Costco had a pallet of them last week and still had some today. I think there will be plenty for this holiday season.
