High School Yearbook...What Did You Write For Your Senior?

We can purchase a page in the yearbook for our seniors where we write something and put some pictures in there. I was wondering if anyone has done this before? You go into Jostens and create the page yourself. I wanted to write something from the heart, but original. My son loves music...playing the viola. He wants to study music at a college or conservatory. I'm trying to think of a nice quote, poem, or line from a song that says something about music...To keep on playing and never stop...Something cool. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can write? I'm really stuck on this and stressing over it which is totally ridiculous I know. Like I don't have more important issues to worry about! Anyway, if anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks... ~Lisa

One of my sons is a Senior and I just got the same order sheet. No clue what I'll do! He is going in to music education, so I will ask him if he can recommend song lyrics or something along those lines for you.

We decided to give the money to DD rather than spend the $$ on a page in the yearbook. While it's an nice memory, she told us that she did not want us to do it for her, and she was trying to buy a car at the time, so we gave her the $ we would have spent on the page towards her car.

Nothing against you moms but this sounds like a total money making scam by the yearbook publisher! I have never heard of this before. If you don't mind posting, how much does this memory page cost?

At our school it was a way to keep the cost of the yearbook down. It was still high but I guess it would have been more without the pages in the back. My son graduated a few years ago but I don't remember how much it cost. I think a full page was around $120, A half a page was around $75. There was also a quarter of the page. We split a page with another parent and she put her pictures on top and ours were on the bottom. Then we both wrote something on our part of the page. It was cheaper to do it that way.

I love those pages with all the photos of the graduate and their family. Its my favorite part of the yearbook. I am not a good writer so I did something like remember when etc.... I put a lot of special memories from the time he was born until the present time. The hardest part was picking out just 6 photos that represented his life.

Perhaps the yearbook staff needs to hustle and sell more ads to help offset the cost of the yearbook.

It just depends on the graduate. Some of the kids love to have these pages done for them, and others do not.

The kids can now also upload their own pix with their friends for submission to the yearbook, which is neat.

You do not have to buy a page for your child. And even though I am cheap I loved being able to do a half page for my son. I will do the same thing for my other children too.

I think giving the $ for something like the car would be better, our parents, even though was cheaper then than the huge cost now, bought all these yearbooks for dh and I and we've only opened them once in 17 years, otherwise they are gathering dust on the bookshelf

Thank you for all of the great quotes! I haven't made up my mind yet, but I'm going to use one of them. I still don't really know what I'm going to write. I have until December 1st to finish it though...I thought before that the deadline was November 1st. ~Lisa

My kids aren't that old yet, but we had these in the back of our yearbooks. I think the most touching ones were the ones that had baby pictures of them and other milestone pictures of that student's life. I also thought it was neat when parents gave a story about "We knew then that you were. . ." So for your son if you had a story of how you played music to him while he was still in the womb, or a specific story about how much he loved music as a toddler and when you realized that that would be a big part of his life. And most importantly, I think it is important to tell him how proud of him you are. I don't think this is a waste of money. It might be expensive and he might not really read it that often, but when he does it will be moving. They only graduate from high school once. HTH

I just finished the page for my son who is going to be a senior. We added pictures and a note from his Dad and I, his brother also wrote a note and his two best friends added a small note.

I did not think twice about spending the money for the page. It was $150 but he is only going to graduate once and it is something that he will have forever.

Also, on a side note. I am considering buying a year book this year for myself and putting it in the fire proof safe here at home. My year book was damaged and it really upset me. I would like to have a back up for him should anything happen to his.

I think it is a very nice touch, at a very important milestone.
It's not for everybody... but I don't think she asked if any one thought it was a rip off or not...
I understand about the kids downloading pics of their friends but I'd use this page about you and your family
I will do this for my kids when we get to that point, good luck picking the right words.

My son forgot to turn his sheet in, and he asked me to do it for him. I did...after I changed his "quote!" He had written..."Nice legs. What time do they open?" I was shocked, erased it, and wrote a few verses from Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken." Now, as I look back, it's kinda funny. :-)

When our ds Thomas Peter graduated 3 years ago, we put in a 3/5 picture of him as a baby he was 1 years old. We also wrote this. To our dear Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Baby Boy Tommy, we truly wish you all the health happiness and peace in any road you may take in your future. Stay sweet and caring the way you are. You have always made us all so proud and now you will continue. While this day is both happy and sad and now your growing fast each and everyday, could you kindly let Mommy and Daddy hold you hand one more time as we cross the street.. All our love endlessly your entire familyxoxoxoxo. This cost us 75.00.. When my dd Caitlin will graduate next year. We already know we will be quoting some lines from her favorite rock Band Led Zeppelin and her favorite song Thank You.,omg this is all too emotional . A wonderful post always love and hug and tell your children you love them everyday.. peace to all, Catherine

OK...How is this? I never thought this would be such an emotional time (and it's not even graduation time yet!). Our children just grow up too fast. I'm so happy for him, yet I'm sad. I know that we're going to miss him so much. It's going to be really hard on my daughter who is 15 and very close to him. Anyway...here is what I wrote... ~Lisa

Tim, Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday you were born in Hawaii...watching Barney, playing with your Power Rangers toys, and going to Space Camp. We gave you roots to grow. We now give you wings to soar. You have grown into a respectful, honest young man who is kind, smart, funny, easygoing, and determined. We are so proud of your success! You have worked so hard. Your passion for music will take you far in life. We know that it's your dream to play in a major symphony orchestra someday. We fully expect to see that happen! When you leave for college, we'll miss your practical jokes. The house will be eerily quiet without you playing your viola all of the time. Your future looks so bright. We wish you success and happiness. Do great things and follow your heart's desire. Our love is with you wherever you go. We will always be your biggest fans! Love~ Mom, Dad, Samantha, Todd, and Cookie

Tim, If you are true to yourself...if you love with your whole heart...if you stand by your dreams and ride through change with a strong and true character...if you keep an open mind to new ideas and believe in your convictions...if you see mistakes as lessons and setbacks as challenges...if you tackle mountains...if you live with integrity...you can never fail! You've worked very hard and we're so proud of you. Your passion for music will take you far in life. We'll miss you when you leave for college.
