I had the complete opsite than you -- ALL MY candy was gone in what seemed like 10 minutes!!! I had several bags and thought it would last but DH took it upon himself to hand it out and in no time he comes back refills the bowl to the gills and soon after he says OK all gone !!! I said WHAT??? he says yeah take a peek outside and sure enough there were LOADS of kids it kinda looked like a parade outside LOL. I was a little disapointed though I wanted a chance to see those cute little T or T's oh well ther is always next year. with your question about what to do with the left overs maybe you or your DH can take it to your work place and share with co-workers. |

Call your local Department of Human Services, children's orphanage, or Salvation Army. They will more than likely save it for Christmas and put it in stockings or little baggies for the needy families with kids for Christmas (assuming it isn't all Halloween packaging, etc.). I used to be a case manager for DHS so I know they can use all the extra goodies for the many many needy kids (and there will be so many more this year due to the economy). They also have a lot of foster kids that are between homes that will need help. A lot of these agencies actually do make up stockings for the kids. They get very little. If you can sew or care to purchase smaller stockings, you might ask for a number and just make up the stockings yourself and deliver them to the agency. Another idea is to call your local military office. The soldiers take candy to the war zone for the kids there. Not sure if they would take it or not though, just a thought. They might be interested in using it for something like Operation Dear Abby/Operation Christmas Card (isn't that what it's called--am I getting it all mixed up?) where they make up the gift boxes for the military troops (do they still do that, one of my daughters did this in school a few years back) overseas at Christmas. Some areas chocolate wouldn't be wanted due to heat and packaging. Call your local Boys and Girls Club or local youth organization. I bet they will take it. Call your local fire or police dept. The fire dept. here drives the fire truck around with Santa around Christmas time and hands out candy to the kids. They all give away candy at the annual Christmas parade. Make up small 'care packages' and take it to a local nursing home. You'll have to know who can eat sugar, etc. and get permission from the director I'm sure, or just donate it and they will handle it. A lot of those folks have no visitors/no gifts at all and would be delighted. You can always make up goody baskets for the mailman, UPS, Fedex, etc., whoever you want. Even goody baskets for your neighbors. I'm in a smaller town so the trust issue here may not be the same where you are if you are in a larger area, so I hope I gave some valid ideas. Pretty much everyone knows everyone around here... Or, you can just mail it to me. Looks like the rate my kids are going, they will have their Halloween candy gobbled up in about 3 days, LOL. Just kidding of course! |

| You could give it to Covenant House. They're at 460 West 41st Street. Covenant House is a great place, they take in kids who are under 21 and have nowhere else to go. Here's the linkee in case you'd like to check them out: Covenant House New York - Changing Lives, Creating Futures I can personally vouch for these guys, they saved my life over 20 years ago.

My local dentists office are buying them back for $1 per pound and giving away a free toothbrush. They will be sending them to the troops overseas. My kids picked what they wanted and will be participating in this! As a teacher myself, the candy is a good idea but many candies have nuts in them and lots of schools are nut free. These candies cannot be given away to schools! |

We put all of the candy (both our son's and our leftovers) in a drawer in the kitchen. He knows when he wants a piece, to take one. He does not eat it all in one sitting or anything. In December, after Christmas, I normally either give the rest to DH to take to work (he also takes it to work once in a while before that), or toss it into the garbage. Things like mini candy bars can be incorporated into holiday baking too!!

I guess giving it to teachers isn't such a great idea afterall....based on the other thread! ![]() cj/
