Sav. is one of our favorite places to visit. The historic distric is amazing. If its not too cold make sure to visit one of the barrier islands near there. If you have kids esp girls go to Juliette gordon Lowes house, the founder of the girl scouts. There are so many wonderful museums and house museums. You will fall in love with it. I tried to add .... There are also many companies that offer trolly tours. Make sure to compare costs and number of stops etc. They usually leave from the visitor center. They are a great way to get a quick overview of the city. |

I live here and have 18 of the last 25 years. What are your interests? DO you have kids with you? Give me alittle info as to what you would like to do and I will be more than happy to recommend some things to you. Will you have any daytime for visiting or just the overnight. EGADS!! we have PAula Dean here in case you haven't heard YOu will find her name and opicture plastered all over the downtown/Riverstreet area. Riverstreet is the touristy area to go and the downtown area has many beautiful squares. Forsythe park is probably the most well know and has a beautiful fountain in the center that they decorate. A must for picture taking. Just let me know Josie |

Thanks so much for the reply. There will be 4 adults and a 15, 12 and 9 year old. I was hoping to catch the holiday spirit found in towns on our way up and someone was telling me how Savannah is so beautiful during the holidays. So any events you can recommend, sites of interest, a good restaurant, a nice hotel. We will be arriving in the late afternoon and probably leave by the next day. what do the locals do and where do they go? Thanks again, Judi

One tip if you looking for hotels is to go on priceline and bid for a hotel. We have gotten some great deals. One year we stayed at the Hyatt on the waterfront for 45$. I like staying in the historic district when possible but when driving it is sometimes more convenient to get a hotel near the major highways. Savannah is amazingly small and its not hard to get around. If you don't mind staying near the highway and not it the historic district. The springhill suites was amazing. A lot of the newer hotels, and there are quite a few, have indoor pools that are very nice.
