what is your favorite Barbie memory ?

I remember my sister and I playing Barbie. I guess I was 11? I had the Malibu Ken doll..We ( my sister and I ) had the Barbie bedroom with pull down beds and little plastic hangers to put in the Barbie closet.]. I think I had the Skipper doll too...

I also remember playing Barbie on the front walk of my friends house.

I had barbies, but I don't really remember playing with them. They just sat in a basket, naked and headless.

I just LOVED my Barbies. I played with them until I was about 12 or 13 (I know... children were more innocent then).

I had many different Barbies, but of course they were nothing like the Barbies now. I had some with the molded hair! I had several suitcases to hold all their clothes. I didn't have a formal Barbie house for them, but I made my own out of boxes. I made up elaborate stories for them and I just really loved playing with them.

I gave all of them to my cousins when I was around 14 or so, and they ruined them....

I loved my Barbies. My parents had someone custom make me a Barbie doll house. It was 4 feet x 4 feet with a hinged roof so you could play. I could actually fit inside and close the roof. I hid there once for over an hour. My parents thought I was missing and went kind of crazy. I never tried that again.

My house had 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, a kitchen and family room. It had carpet, linoleum, wallpaper, drapes and furniture. It was the coolest thing ever. I just wish I had it now for my daughter.

I was a big tomboy and only had 1 Barbie doll. It was the first bendable leg Skipper. I don't remember playing with it but I do remember that my baby sister bit the toes off. LOL

I had about 5 Barbies and hated them LOL I never played with dolls. I was into "boy things" like bike riding, playing with trucks and kickball. I do remember lining up my Barbies so we could ride over them with our bikes although I don't know if that would be considered a "good" memory of Barbie LOL I just feel SO fortunate that my 7 year old DD doesn't have any interest in dolls. She asked for a barbie once for a bday and got one and then never asked to open it up. It's still in her closet unopened. I just don't know what I would do if she wanted to "play dolls"....I don't think I ever have!

My favorite Barbie memory is of all the clothes that my mom sewed for mine and my sister's dolls. She rarely did domestic things like that so it really stands out in my mind.Quite a variety of clothing- and I remember alot of ric-rac trim. She made us a barbie wardrobe with hangers out of an old little suitcase. She never threw anything away- but it's been along time since I have seen those items.

One Christmas my mom gave me a shoe box of Barbie clothes she'd made. Oh, my gosh it was so exciting! As an adult it means more to me now. I cannot imagine the hours she spent making those tiny outfits.

I played with Barbies but I was also a tomboy. I loved playing outside but there were times I just wanted to play pretend inside with dolls. I had 2 or 3 Barbies along with one of the carrying cases to keep all the clothes in. We didn't have a lot of name brand Barbie stuff but we had tons of knock off Barbie including a motor home and a swimming pool!

My Barbie was cool. She had horses and went to rodeos all the time. She had no time for the stupid Ken doll so I stashed him under the bed. I played with Barbie until I was about 9 or so then I moved on to Breyer horses which I spent hours making saddles and bridles for and having all kind of adventures with them with no dolls in sight.

Catherine...Do you mean Dawn dolls? I had a bunch of them also. They were so cute. I liked my Barbies better though. Playing Barbies was my favorite thing to do besides rollerskating. My best friend next door and I would play for hours with them. We'd make them climb bushes on the side of the house and pretend that they were mountain climbing. I remember my favorite one was the Stacey doll with the long red hair in a ponytail. I think she wore an orange or red bathing suit? I also liked PJ. My friend next door had older sisters so she had one of their Midge dolls. I also gave my Barbies to my younger cousin who ruined them. Boy, I wish I would have kept them! ~Lisa

My best friend and I used to make elaborate Barbie houses by standing hardback books up on their sides (spine side up) to make walls. Our houses had multi-rooms, hallways, etc. We used to get so upset when we'd have to take them down so my mom could vacuum my bedroom. I remember having furniture but it must have been things we made because they didn't make Barbie furniture then. I also remember cutting the hair on my Skipper doll and giving her a bob hairdo. My friend had a boy "Skipper" doll that we called Ricky ~ I don't know why I can still remember that!

I still have my Barbie's....Well....they're at my mom's house tucked away in the attic. I use to play with them quite a bit. I was an only child so this kept me occupied. My mom also made clothes for them too. I remember getting a pool one year for them. Man....that thing held so much water. I was also a tom boy too, (grew up on a farm) but I did love my Barbie's.

Ahhh Barbies! I loved my barbies. I had the regular malibu barbie, ken, skipper and the ballerina barbie.

In my Barbie world... Barbie and Ken were married and Skipper was their sickly child (one of her legs was broken.. you could see the white bendy thing..yuck) and Ballerina Barbie was the mean wicked babysitter who always tried to steal Ken away, with her fancy twirling and her matted hair... that's why she was evil.. I never could brush her hair and it was matted and coarse.. yucks. Evil babysitter ballerina barbie would always kick her super long legs in regular barbies face and knock her out cold and try to seduce ken. She was shameless!

Another story was regular barbie and ballerina barbie were sisters and they were competing for ken's affections. he never gave ballerina barbie a second glance. smart man!

I only remember one incedent with a barbie doll. When I was younger we were visiting a family in coney Island that my father was in the war with and the mother took a fur coat and made our barbie dolls one. I was so impressed that she would cut a fur coat. It probably wasnt real. I always played with ginny dolls. they were smaller than barbies and younger because I had a Brownie outfit for mine. Anyone else remember these dolls? nancy

Growing up, I had only one Barbie. And I believe it was given to me by a friend of my mother's, who had found it at work, or someplace. I don't remember playing with it very much though, because I didn't really take an interest in playing with dolls until I was around 10. And even then, for the most part it was brief. So, the only "Barbie" memory I have is coming home from school one day (1st grade) and going into the bathroom to "tinkle", since I'd been holding it all the way home from school. When I went into the bathroom and found a Barbie arm floating in the toilet, I immediately knew something was up! I ran into my bedroom (which I shared with my 3-yr old twin brothers at the time) to find they had chewed the toes off of both her feet and used her wardrobe as a step stool to reach my stuff in the closet. My father had made the wooden wardrobe for me and it had some semi-fancy scrolling at the top which had got broken off when they used it for a step stool. I used to use the little black hangers that come with new socks for my doll clothes hangers.

When I was around 9 or 10, I got a Tiffany Taylor doll, which was the one I played with most. You could change her hair color from blonde to brunette by simply twisting her scalp. (See Tiffany Taylor here.) Around a year or 2 later I got her sister, Tuesday Taylor (same changable hair color), who was an 11.5" Barbie-type doll. I think I spent more time making clothes and stuff for them than I did actually playing with them. I use to make lots of strapless sweater dresses for Tuesday Taylor with my KnitMagic (which was one of the very few things KnitMagic was good at making, LOL). I still have both dolls packed away somewhere in a closet. And I still have a KnitMagic.... Not my original one, but one that I found at either the Goodwill or a yard sale several years ago.

I don't have any Barbie memories. I had stuffed animals when I was young but I never cared about playing with dolls.

My sister got Barbies.
First year she got one of the old brunette pony tailed Barbies, I got Ken & hated him. Though I was a tomboy, I still wanted what the other kids in the neighborhood had, and Ken had maybe 2 outfits at that time. He had a blonde crew cut made of some hideous material that my brother dyed green after dunking Ken's head in turpentine.
Next year same sis got another cool Barbie, blonde this time, and I got 2nd banana Midge, who's hairstyle was short and bubbly, not a cool long style like Barbie's.
Last year my parents gave Barbies as gifts sis got one of the cool Barbies with bendable legs, I got the icky Tammy doll.
In the long run, it's better sis got the Barbies cuz she played with em way more than I woulda if I'd had em, but I hated the ones I got. I think sis got Barbies cuz that's what she asked for and my folks only gave me the dolls I got cuz they wanted to try and be fair and make sure we got *same-but-different* things. (we'd always get the same sweaters, pjs, pajama bags, hats/scarves, etc. each Christmas, but in different colors)
One thing we used to do with our friends was to take shoe boxes and make grocery stores for Barbies. We'd spend hours with our mothers' old magazines cutting out pictures of food and pasting them onto the shelves we made for our shoebox stores. Loved doing that, can still clearly recall how much fun it was to sit in a group on someone's porch for hours chatting, cutting, and pasting away. (and eating the paste added to the appeal ;-)

I remember my Barbies, lol.I had one that was ugly because I used to chew on her fingers while watching TV.And I had another pretty one.I had a huge Barbie case house with all the accessories.I also had my brothers GI Joe and tons of accessories for that ,that he never played with so it became mine. Gi Joe was married to the pretty Barbie and the ugly Barbie with chewed up hands was the maid.GI Joe captured the big black ape and they were always trying to tame the ape and make it a pet.The pretty Barbie would often leave the house and go shopping leaving GI Joe and the maid alone together.Gi joe would always be cheating with the maid, lol.

I loved my barbies & had tons, at least 30 or so... I also made homes for them, had cars for them that wasn't barbie related! I did however have the barbie camper that my cousins & I rode on all the time... I had my barbie & ken go to bed & sleep on top of one another & then she had another doll of some sort come out of her belly... I was taught all of this by my cousins... I mainly asked for barbies at Xmas... I would take baths with them, comb their hair etc...

My father's company had a Christmas party for all the kids of the workers. Each child got a toy according to their age. Since my father was a foreman, he knew what kinds of toys they were passing out. It was the first Christmas for Barbie. They were only getting 2 dozen Barbie dolls in my age group ( and only in my age group, I was in 6th grade). My dad got us there so we were first in line. I guess it helped that my dad was a foreman. There were 8 kids in my family so we always looked forward to this party since they gave the latest toys that my parents could not afford to buy us.

My sister and I played Barbies a lot. I think I played with them up until about the age of 12. I remember my dad taking us to the Sears catalog place to order Barbie clothes for Christmas. It was so exciting to pick out the clothes. My sister and I would lay out the clothes and write numbers on slips of paper to put under the clothes as a fair way to split the clothes when we played. LOL I also remember when we got the big Barbie Dream House. Oh man was that something! I can also remember selling it at a garage sale later on. LOL Wish I still had that! We also got the swimming pool...we had so much fun with that.
I also remember my mom making us some clothes for our Barbies. The best thing she ever made each of us was a wedding dress for our Barbies. They were so beautiful. I was dumb enough to give one to a girl in my class because I wanted her to be my friend. I really regret doing that. I have a bag of our old Barbie clothes packed away somewhere.
My favorite Barbie doll was the western one that had a button on her back to press and she would wink.

My not-so-nice Barbie memory had to do with the Donny & Marie (Osmond) barbie dolls I got. I was so excited to get them for my birthday (along with the lunchbox). Then for some reason, I cut Marie's hair off...gave her a buzz cut. Sheesh! I guess I did that when I was getting too old for them because I also remember pulling off some of their heads and cutting their legs off. LOL!

Sounds like some of you had Barbies that lived in Melrose Place, LOL!

Soap operas got nothing on little girls playing with Barbies.
