I believe that's part of why our public schools, which also double as polling places, are not in session today. Sure it has to do with the sign-holders and the extra traffic, but I'm sure safety due to some lunatic was also a factor. My son is not happy to be attending a private school today! ![]() cj/

Our schools are in today and my polling place is the local high school. My kids would have loved the day off though. |

My daughter's elementary school and my son's middle school are both polling sites and both are in school today. The extra traffic was a pain, and I'm sure safety is a concern for staff, but I like that my kids get to see the election process up close.

My son, who is in law enforcement, told me that all the different law enforcement agencies across the commonwealth have been geared up and preparing for this day for weeks now. He said that either way it goes, they're preparing for 'civil unrest'. Remember the Rodney King riots?? |

"Remember the Rodney King riots?? " God yes.... The worst part about that is that people destroyed their own town. The sad part is that this is an election and we should not have to worry about riots. That is our right as americans and it pisses me off that some people will ruin it if things dont go their way. |

I think law enforcement is thinking no matter who wins, there's going to be problems. You know how people get when their team wins a big game?? Riots, cars overturned, couches set on fire, etc.??? |

| Sadly, I think the same, or maybe the "celebrating" will get out of hand??? I heard on the news today that a man in Philadelphia trying to vote had to call the Police. There were two men from the Black Panthers group standing at the entrance to the polling place with night sticks, tapping them in their hands, and telling this man not to bother coming out, since the "black man" was going to win, or something to that effect. I'm sure it will be on the news tonite, along with other wild situations. BTW, this was in Philadelphia.

My DH's company supplies us with ALERTS... because of his intl travel HEre is the last one. Security: Civil unrest possible late Nov. 4-early Nov. 5 after U.S. election results are announced. Avoid demonstrations. This alert affects United States. This alert began 28 Oct 2008 16:51 GMT and is scheduled to expire 06 Nov 2008 23:59 GMT. Event:Presidential election Date: Nov. 4 Location: Nationwide Impact: Heightened security; possible civil unrest Summary Security forces are preparing for outbreaks of civil unrest after the results of the Nov. 4 presidential election are announced. Thousands of police officers will be deployed during and after polling for the election between Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama, which will see either the nation's first black president or first female vice president take office. Mass protests are likely should Obama, who is leading in the run-up to the election, lose the final vote in a controversial manner. However, postings on dozens of Internet Web sites have also warned of violence should Obama win. Small-scale political unrest is likely before, during and after the polls. Clashes at party rallies and small-scale attacks on party offices are possible. Record voter turnout could overload polling places on election day, further raising tensions. Violent unrest is most likely in Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. but could occur anywhere in the country. Advice Expect increased security leading up to and during the election. Avoid political gatherings. |

I agree...I think the riots will happen if Obama loses. I can't see riots happening if Obama wins (which I feel will be the outcome). I feel sad for our country...I think we are headed for a hard time, either way!

This "alert" is obviously suggesting that ignorance comes in more than one color! I have to agree with it. .

Dh works at a bank and said one of his office mates had to rush home to load his guns and get his kid in the house. he was certain there was going to be some type of riot one way or the other. These aren't crazy people either , these are boring geek banker types. I have a hard time believing it but I guess it could happen.

| I think in those cases people are liquored up and a little too rowdy.

I live in the DC area and we had no problems voting. Lines were long but orderly. I have not seen any "rioting". In Chicago, where my son lives, Grant Park had thousands of people in one place and had no problems. I think we had to be prepared but the people showed the world that we can change.
