| The Outer Banks of North Carolina® Official Site - Visitors Bureau DH and I love the Outer Banks. Kill Devil Hills, the Outer Banks, Maneto, Duck are all right there together. There's lots of local restaurants. If you go over the bridge into Maneto (where Andy Griffith lives), there's the aquarium. It's handicapped accessible. There's a Christmas Village there, too, in Maneto. A great 50's place to eat in Maneto is Big Al's. I'm hoping some of the local restaurants are open in December. We've been there as late as the end of September. There's really not a whole lot to do in the Outer Banks and Kill Devil Hills (except the Wright Brothers) and the huge sand dune (Jockey's Ridge). You couldn't take a wheelchair to the top, but I know they have carts that the Park police use to take people to the top. We walked to the top years ago and the view is breathtaking. I guess, too, it would depend on the weather. There's an outlet mall there that has a lot of name-brand places. You can drive to the lighthouses in the area. There's at least four of them in the area. Heck, just sitting and watching the ocean and relaxing would be enough for me!!! If you want names of some good restaurants, let me know and I'll look them up for you. Hope you have a Great Time!! |

Jockys ridge would be great for him but not for the wheelchair. Its a huge huge sand dune. We have been there in late nov and about froze to death! the wind coming off the ocean that feels so wonderful in the summer is brutal in the winter. Lots of the local diners and such was closed when we were there. not sure if it was cause it was thanksgiving week or if they close for the winter. Not a whole lot to do there except the aquiriam and the wrights brothers place.

Thanks guys it gives me some places to start looking into. Andy Griffith huh? ssshh dont tell my DH he loves him well I do to we might mosey over to Maneto to check his hometown out. Even on a good day I doubt I could go up the dune waddling with my cane. Hope they offer rides up it and we dont get blown away. I think there will be a lot of scrap-booking going on, cant do much shopping since we are so broke we cant pay attention LOL We usually when we go with Margaret on a trip go out to eat one night for seafood, so the name of a great seafood place would be helpful and I can research looking into if they are open.

There's a great scrapbooking place in Nags Head (or Kill Devil). I'll see if I can find the name of it. They have a lot of stickers, etc. pertaining to Nags Head, Wright Brothers, etc. There's a great all-you-can see place right on Beach Row. I'll have to look it up for you. Not sure if it's open all year, though. There is one place that we liked called Mikko Mike's. The prices are reasonable and the seafood is really good. |
