I have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving. But that kills me!! LOL! We have Thanksgiving at our house each year, and we think it's only fair to DH's Jewish family to hold off on the holly for a bit... I'm playing my Christmas music already, though! This year I'm going to really get into the decorating, since we had a very sad Christmas last year (when my dad died). I want to make it joyous again!I do enjoy our harvest decorations, which go up toward the end of September, and stay up through Thanksgiving Day. I've acquired a lot of really nice Target autumn decor during the great tradition of 90% Halloween!

Omg I cannot even think about that... We will as always the day after Thanksgiving, which sadly today that so very important family get together holiday gets over looked by all the hype of Christmas... Can you believe some people are already done with their Christmas Shopping omg... I am scared to fast for me.... Peace to all... Catherine

We try to have at least the outside lights up by Thanksgiving. DH reveals the lights that evening with everyone watching. I usually use the rest of my weekend that holiday to do the inside! I kind of like to have my fall stuff up for a while to enjoy. I like my pumpkins and mums on the front porch! |

Inside: the week after Thanksgiving. Outiside lights are weather permitting. If it's nice the week before Thanksgiving, DH usually does them them. If it's snowy then it waits until we can hang them but we don't turn them on until December

Thanksgiving weekend but I'm kind of thinking we should put the outside lights up before it gets ugly. That way I could see if I need more light strings. I am really excited to be in our new home for our first Christmas.

I hope to start next week. We have TONS of decorations and I hope to get them all out this year. My goal is to have a tree in every room! Some are large and some are small and some are ceramic and some go on the wall but they are all Christmas trees! I love Christmas and I want to enjoy it early and in every room, even bathrooms! MERRY CHRISTMAS

I'm hoping to put up our tree and other decorations a few days after Thanksgiving, when DS1 is home from college. I'd like him to help! ![]() cj/

I have been thinking about putting mine up soon. I am really anxious to put it all up. I am just trying to decide if that would be offending to Dh's family who are all coming over for Thanksgiving. They are pretty easy going, so they probably would not mind. We go out of town usually and this year we are not, plus I dont work all of Christmas break, so I want to "deck" it all out this year!!!!! |

I don't mean to offend anyone but I seriously don't understand the desire to rush the season. I wait until the beginning of December. Advent is the time of preparation for Christmas. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas so that is when I begin to prepare for celebrating Christmas. For those of you who are doing it very soon, please explain to me why. I'm not being snarky, I truly wish to see your side of it -- why so early? I understand that some families have to celebrate early because that's when their family can be together but other than that, why? I guess I feel that as I have gotten older, times seems to fly by faster and faster every year so I want to savor each month for what makes it special. Right now, I'm really enjoying my fall decorations and planning for Thanksgiving. My little head would probably explode if I tried to plan for Christmas now.

Because they want to enjoy the magic of Christmas decorations as long as possible. Because some people don't have all the time in the world to decorate and need to do bits at a time. Because the weather gets bitter cold in some parts of the country early and it's a pain to put up lights when your fingers are frozen. Because some people enjoy the commercial aspects of Christmas more than they relate to the religious aspects. I guess I don't see it as that big of a deal......well, except for outside decorations left up year round....that drives me batty! ![]() cj/

DH plans on hanging the outside Christmas lights in a week or two when he is up on the ladder digging out all the leaves from our gutters. As for the inside decorations I will be doing them the Friday after Thanksgiving after my nap from Black Friday shopping!! It doesn't bother me when people start decorating early.....the only reason I wait until after Thanksgiving is because its a tradition. I also don't think people are rushing in the Christmas season, just enjoying it longer!

It started snowing here yesterday. ugh. Anyway - today I put the outside wreaths by the front and side doors. Got the tree out of the garage, found the tree skirt and the decorations - but can't find the tree stand. Otherwise I would have the tree up and decorated now. And no, I am not a Christmas fanatic. In fact I hate decorating and the only reason I am doing this now is because my son is gone today and I have time on my hands. If I don't do it today there is a very good chance we will not have a tree up. Which would not bother me at all. |

We'll decorate for Christmas over Thanksgiving weekend. I like to get it all done in a day or two -- otherwise my house feels like a sea of decoration boxes. I try to have everything except the outdoor lights put away before December 30. That is DH's birthday and we try not to mix Christmas with his birthday because that was always the way it was when he was growing up. Sarah............. |

I am loving my Fall decorations, can't wait for Thanksgiving!! But I am listening to Kenny Rogers And Dolly Parton Christmas as we speak!! We always get the tree and decorate the day after Thanksgiving, and try to get the outside of the house soon after. Personally, I look forward to this season all year! It is just so pretty, so magical. I love every part of it, the music, the good food, the get togethers, just sitting at night and looking at the tree. I'm not rushing any part of it, I'm loving it all!!

We're not going to decorate this year. I am guessing we probably won't do a tree either, since we won't be here really at all. We've never not decorated before. This will be the first year. But this is the first year we are going away for Christmas. Our other four boys (who are grown and out of the house) are NOT happy about it.. Thanksgiving we are going away to our parents homes in MO and AR December 12th weekend, away to my best friends house in Iowa for a family get together (about 30 of us) and that will be when we celebrate Christmas here. Dec 20- Jan 3rd Califor-N-I-AYYY baby! |

I will be decorating the inside next weekend. My husband will be gone on a hunting trip . I enjoy Christmas so much and all of the decorations. I always put the decorations up early. We decorate the outside the day afer Thanksgiving. I just love this time of the year!

It is supposed to be in the 60's here this weekend so I will get my outside done and crazy enough Tulips planted. I will also drag the tree down because next week is going to be very cold and I don't want to let the cold attic air into the house. I always do on Thanksgiving weekend but I am going by the weather this year as I hate being cold.

We put everything out the 9th. My DD's birthday is the 8th and it so gets overshadowed by Christmas any way. Poor thing gets forgotten by friends and relatives as it is. She is 4 and will be 5 so she is just old enough that she really started feeling it last year. Its hard but its all about her Birthday until the 9th.

We are in California on vacation until next Wednesday night. We'll start getting the outside deorations out of the attic and basement the weekend after we get home. We'll set them up in the garage until T-day. Since we are not travelling for any either holiday, I want them out from T-day to at least New Years. I love decorating my yard for Christmas!!! I have fond memories of the whole family getting in the car at night to drive around and see the lights. We were at Home Depot the other day and I saw several new outside decorations that I want. DH just . I told him that we would have to move and get a larger front yard. We live on a cul-de-sac and have a small pie shaped front yard. Some years I don't even get around to putting up a tree-we don't have kids and usually travel for at least one of the holidays. Last year, I put up my tree with no decorations. This year, I got a purple tinsel tree and am going to decorate it with LSU colors. I'll still have my regular tree.
