Calling all Hunting Widows....

It is Deer Season Opener this weekend in Minnesota.....pretty much a National Holiday up here. BF is taking off work at noon tomorrow and will be gone all weekend, plus the next two. I am taking my dd's out for supper tomorrow night and planning a scrapbooking (and wine!) afternoon with the gals. Just wondering who else is a Hunting Widow and what you do for fun when the boys are gone.........

Oh lord... I am the biggest hunting widow around! However Deer season, shot gun season, starts Dec 1st and DH is having foot surgery on 11/18 and may not be able to go. So we gotta get all the bow hunting in now.
Husband is lucky though and can hunt right in our yard....
I have joined curves with a friend and have taken up needlepoint. I do use this time to catch up on things with friends though!!

My husband already caught his deer opening weekend and he and his friends go mostly day hunting since we live so close to nature. I like it when I have one weekend to myself! It's easier to do a deep cleaning that way.

I am one of the lucky ones, my dh doesn't hunt. I do hate hunting season. I hate that the kids can't play in their own back yard, and I am nervous about walking to my clothesline to hang out laundry. I know that hunting season is needed to thin out the deer, but I still hate it. I just read in our local paper that the deer population in our are (Maine) is very low this year because of the very snowy, cold winter last year.

I really do not consider myself a hunting widow. DH hunts with a bow and the season starts Oct 1 and continues through Feb 28. He hunts as often as he can and rarely goes camping and hunting.

Well, my dh doesn't hunt, but it is a national holiday here too. It starts next Sat on the 15th and I will be joining some hunting widows for a night out on the 14th. I am SO excited!! We have it planned for a nice restaraunt, but if our numbers grow too large we may have to find another venue, which is fine, the more the merrier!!

I'm a hunting and football widow. My husband and my 12 year-old son hunt together. They love to watch football together as well. Sure wish I had a little girl sometimes. It's a long lonely winter for me

I'm a hunting widow as well. Both of the kids hunt with him, too. DH and DS have both killed does this year.

DH has a lifetime license, which allows him to have a higher bag limit than a regular license. He processes his own, and the bulk of the meat is donated to a local food pantry that accepts wild game. I think it is through a group call Hunters Feeding the Hungry, but I'm not sure.

BF got a doe today.....they party hunt so he will go out the next two weekends. Yay, we have fresh venison in the freezer! I hope he gets another, but they all share and will donate some two!! The girls and I went to Red Lobster on Fri night for the Shrimpfest.....it was just ok.....nothing spectacular....very garlicky or deep fried. Today I just cleaned and watched the Vikings/Packers game.....Yay Vikings!!
