Oh Dear - Big Scare Today

I had posted a while back about my dd receiving a bird from a friend. Well, we were out today for a field trip and "Angel - bird of war" was out on the patio (in his cage of course) enjoying some fresh air. Well, when we came home, we found his cage had somehow blown or tipped over and Angel was missing. We could hear him and he answered our calls but we couldn't see him. Finally, with some coaxing, he came out of our neighbor's bushes and waddled over. Miraculously, our neighbor's dogs didn't eat him. They were so sweet; no one was home so I climbed over the fence and the dogs and Angel came running over to me. Thankfully the dogs just sniffed him and we were able to pop him back in the cage! Big Whew!

I was so grateful that I promised those dogs a great treat for later! Wow - if it had been any other neighbor's yard, Angel would be a goner for sure.

Wow! I'm glad to hear your story had a happy ending. And it sounds like Angel made some new friends. (LOL)

Thats been one of my fears. We have a conure parrott and I worry that he might somehow get outside. He wouldn't last long outside in Maine. Years ago, I was on our back porch and and a little bird flew over and landed on my shoulder. It was a peachfaced lovebird. Months later, I finally located the owner (who lived two miles away). To make a long story short, the bird had escaped when she was cleaning his cage and ended up two miles away at our house. She ended up letting us keep him because he had fallen in love with my family. He was so cute. He lived for four very happy years. My parrott will probably outlive us all. He has managed to survive in a house with four cats. The cats are actually scared of him (he does tend to bite if he gets nervous). When he bites, it hurts!

What a scare to find the empty cage. Thank goodness you were able to retrieve the bird, without a scratch.

ohhgodd - Angel is a lovebird.

We affectionately named him 'Bird of War' for his violent outbursts. He's very tempermental! We do love and enjoy him. My dd has a jar of coins that Angel loves to play with; he will take a coin out, put it in a toilet paper roll and squawk. If anyone tries to take a coin, he literally spins around and attacks them! So funny.

WE have a conure too! We used to have a lovebird. Once he flew up into the tree and we could hear him, but not see him.

We set his cage outside in the middle of the yard with the door open and full of food and water. We went inside and secretly watched. He finally flew down and went inside himself!!

What a relief!
