| Just have to share this story!!
Last night was fun night at my son's school. Being in 6th grade, this will be his last one. His friend was not planning on going, but I told his grandmother that if he changed his mind about going and decided to go that we would pick him up and take him home. (His mother is preganant and due in 2 weeks) I got a phone call from his mom saying that yes, if we could take him, he would love to go. He had been teetering on the situation, wanting and not wanting to go, but in the end, he decided he wanted to go. We picked him up and headed to the school. Every year, the school has a raffle of donated products from local businesses. There were many great prizes - Restaurant GC's, Grocery Store GC's, YMCA passes, and many more. And the 2 BIG prizes - a Nintendo DS Lite w/ 2 games, and a portable DVD player. DH and I bought $40 in raffle tickets (4/$1) and DS's friend bought $8 worth. DH and I scored pretty darned good at the raffle. I won't have to cook for a while. DS's friend was so hoping to win the DS because his is on the fritz. It is not working very often, and his mother cannot afford to buy him a new one - especially with a baby on the way (his mother is also fighting breast cancer - the baby was a total surprise - she didn't find out until the end of September that she was pregnant...). The time comes to draw the 2 big prizes, and the multi-purpose room is full of people anticipating the items. DS'S friend ends up WINNING the DS!! Him and DS jumped up and down hugging each other. It was a wonderful moment. DS was so happy that his friend had won. And his friend was just too excited for words! He kept saying "I was praying that I would get it because I really need a new one". And to think - he wasn't even planning on going!! I am so happy for him!! And so happy that my son was so excited for his friend - you would have thought my son won it instead of his friend!! Anyway, I had to share that happy moment. It was great! And a wonderful way to end their last school carnival.

Awww, what a wonderful, heart-warming story!! You have raised a fine son. It shows in his ability to be happy for another when good things come to them! So many kids (and adults included!!) become jealous and hateful when another wins or gets ahead somehow by sheer luck. I see it all of the time in the Casinos, when we go. Someone will win big, and the other people around them just sneer and get up and leave in a huff. I'm like your ds, I will usually be behind them or walking by and I will stop and jump up and down, laugh, congratulate them and then stand by and watch them relish in their win. I think it is awesome! One lady said I got more excited than she did, and she won the big money..haha. Anyway, sorry to go off, but what a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing!!! |
