I've never heard of this.....a psychoactive herb legal in most states that teens are apparently using. One website lists it as "the strongest natural hallucinogen known to man". Did anyone see today's Dr. Phi? They are going to be talking about it - featuring a teen AND his mother who smoke it. Comes on at 8pm here....just curious if anyone saw it, what did you think, and if you have heard of this drug an dwhether it's popular in your area? cj/ Salvia divinorum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Salvia.net - Salvia divinorum use, experiences and other info.

I've heard of it. I don't really think it's that popular out here. I know of a few people that have tried it, but none ever said anything good about it.

I saw it, too. I thought it was a houseplant, too. I'm not aware of people smoking it here, but I'm not aware of the drug scene around here (if it even exists - I guess it does if you're looking for it). I'm just wondering who the idiot is that is looking at a houseplant and decides they should smoke it?! That mom was an idiot as well. You really have to wonder sometimes about people! Lisa

There's lots of drugs/chemicals that teens experiment with, that the majority of parents are unaware of. I think we had a thread a few months ago about dxm. If you have teens or pre-teens it's probably a good Idea to start educating yourself. Erowid Psychoactive Vaults has a pretty comprehensive list for a good starting point.

Ok call me dumb, but I never had experience with any drugs growing up I never smoked any ciggys and after trying red wine a few times and getting so sick I sworn off it for good. Because I take meds for my panic attacks and meds for migranes I do not drink at all . So now getting back to what the teenagers will do today it totally amazes me how they are not scared at all. Again my dd Caitlin and my ds Thomas have told me stories.. Like so many kids love to get high off pain meds and steal and but them. Omg I took Codiene once when I had root canal, I literally thought I was going to die, so so sick. Yet they have told me that some kids take anywhere from 10 to 20 a day, so scary. Also they also love Xanax which I take and I find out that these pills sell for 10 dollars each omg crazy crazy. But here is gets better last year my dd Caitlin they had a school dance and anyway she comes home early because first there were so many 14, 15 , 16 years old come drunk to the school and also one person gave another girl a mushroom. So here I am dumb and say what they put a drug into a mushroom. Seriously it was a girl and she fainted, her heart rate was so high , they had to call a ambulance and needless to say no more dances for now. Does anyone watch the show Intervention on T.V. I watched a girl who was addicted to the the stuff they use to clean computers, she was buying up to 8 cans a day, omg so scary so sad.... Catherine

I didn't get to watch the show, but Its only a matter of time before it become illegal too.Unfortunatley ,it probably won't be till its better known and more problems arise from its use.Its sounds worse than mairijuana from what I have read here. Salvia.net - Experiences Sounds scary to me. ![]() Like a short acid trip. The only good thing about it I guess is that you would pass out before you ever overdosed on it ,but still the the effects that it has on people for that 30-60 minute high can be very dangerous. |

I heard about this a couple of years ago when my husband and I were attending a Commander's Course for the Air Force. I agree that a person looking for a thrill will find it at any cost....but the big issue that hit us at the time was that it couldn't be detected on routine drug tests. I don't know if that has changed. We have always grown salvia in our flower beds -- now do I have to worry about junkies digging up my garden?

I don't think this is the same as the salvia plant grown in flower gardens (spikey flower on long stems), but can't be sure. It does seem like it can be bought at "head shops" anywhere....although it sounds like TX is trying to outlaw it. The mother/teacher who smokes it and buys it for her son was a serious whack job. How do you go on national TV and say you smoke this stuff AND teach high school English and expect to have have any credibility and respect? cj/

It was legal in IL until Jan 08. I had no idea what it was until I read an article in GQ of all places! I heard ads for it on the radio station I listen to, a head shop in Peoria sold it. Kids will try anything to get a high. I remember in 5th grade, a kid that sat at my table would come to school drunk every day. It was sad. The rest of us would sit and wonder if he was going to make it. The teachers had to know but I am sure they didn't know what to do. (This was back in the late 70's). Parents just have to be aware of their children, know who they are hanging with and what they are REALLY doing. I am glad I never had any kids!!! |

I've heard of this stuff. You could/can buy it in smoke shops. Having it all over the tv/media is only going to make it popular and send kids off to look for it. I've heard in our local middle and high schools the kids are getting high on Nutmeg. Yep, that's right the household spice. I think they consume a few tablespoons and it produces a mild hallucination.
