Wink What do you love most about your home state

OK I will start. I am from New York and I live on Long Island, which is truly a long island, we live about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Manhattan or New York City, here are some of my favorites things about living in New York
First and foremost Its where I was born and raised and am very proud to be a Native New Yawker as they say
I love that in the city, you can do anything, see anything, eat anything , shop anywhere any time of the day//
The beautiful New York City, all the museums and Broadway plays, all the stores, the Village
Beautiful Long Island which continues to Montauk and the Hamptons home to many beautiful homes and beauttiful beaches
Upstate New York, the beautiful country and so much land
I also love that when you mention the state of New York so many people across the world can identify with the state of New York.
We also have many celebraties to call New York their home
So I am very proud, so kindly share what you love about your home state.. Peace CAtherine

California- What's not to love? I love that we are 2 hours from the beach or snow (in the winter), and 4 hours from Vegas. The weather is very nice. Cold to me is below 70. We have the best wineries 30 min away and Disneyland is 45 min away. Broadway shows, movie sets, casinos, amusement parks, and historical landmarks are all within 2 hours from us.

I am a born and raised Kansan. I attended the University of Kansas - 1988 & 2008 NCAA National Basketball Champions! I was a senior in 1988!

We spent 3 1/2 long miserable years in Dallas. I just wanted to come home. We live in Overland Park, which is a suburb of Kansas City. It is always listed in the lists you see in magazines of the greatest cities to raise families. There is lots of grass & trees, huge yards, great school system, nice friendly people. The cost of living is awesome. You go 5 minutes north of my house and you are in a city, you go 5 minutes south of my house and you are driving down country roads with cow pastures on either side.

And, you can't forget the BBQ!

We love it here.

Lisa

I was born and raised in San Diego county CA. I love the weather except for a couple months in the summer when we may have a lot of 90-100 days some years. I wouldn't mind some snow in the winter (my kids and I would go crazy) but we can drive about an hour away to play in the snow. We can drive the other way for about 20 min. and go to the beach almost year round. My kids also wear shorts all year and I have never owned a winter coat.

Montana. Great place to raise kids, the people are so friendly.

BUT, I'm sick of the cold. As soon as our youngest daughter is thru college (she's only 16) we'll be looking to move somewhere warmer.

There's culture in Southern Illinois?

I was raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago (schaumburg)....and went to college in Urbana-Champaign. Go Illini! I miss the college campus, but now get to visit my son there....yeah!

I now call Massachusetts home and echo everything that Nancy said about the state and the region. Everything is here and all within a short drive......heck, you could hit 7 states in one day of driving. How cool is that? Drawbacks - unpredictable weather (though not as severe as folks native to the area like to make it out to be), the driver madness, and locals who don't use their garages for the intended purpose and who ONLY vacation on the Cape.

What? You don't think Richmond is a cultural mecca? LOL.

I'm from NJ and I love everything about it. Everything. It has beaches and lakes and mountainy areas. It's close enough to easily get into NYC and, more importantly, get OUT of NYC! It's the home state of so many amazing people, ranging from presidents to rock stars. George Washington slept in just about every hamlet up and down the state. It was the site of one of the most famous events of the Revolutionary War, the crossing of the Delaware. It has hard rolls and real bagels and jug handles and both "NY" football teams. It gave the world Frank Sinatra and Martha Stewart; Judy Blume, Jon Bonjovi, Bruce Willis and Bruce Springsteen; two of the nine current Supreme Court justices; Buzz Aldrin, Sandra Dee AND both the fictional Tony Soprano and the actor playing him.

I grew up in California and I live in Oregon. I love the West Coast for the Ocean, mountains, trees, and yes for the people. I find West Coasters to be slower paced than our East Coast counterparts.

Oregon is a very special state we have everything here. I love that you can drive for 20 minutes in any direction and end up in nature all alone.

We have lakes, rivers, bears, squirrels. We have swimming, snow sports, hiking, biking.

We have people that run the gamut from uber liberal to uber conservative.

I am sure that there plenty of things about "your home state" that are wonderful but I don't ever want to live anywhere other the West Coast of the good ole USA.

I enjoy Maryland. You can go from the ocean to the mountains in a day. Close to many historical sites. Close to DC with all its museums and monuments. Nice weather. Every kind of food available. Easy to visit other states.

Well, my home state is NY. I lived on Long Island most of my life. Nice place to live but I don't want to live there :-)

My new home is Georgia. I adore it here. The sky is not grey and dull in the winter (though the summer is HOT). I live in a really cool town where my mode of transportation is a golf cart. I go to the stores, doctors & restaurants all on my cart on wooded trails through the town. No gas involved. I love it here!

I love Idaho. I love our beautiful mountains, trees, rivers, lakes. I love our diverse environment. Northern Idaho looks totally different than Southern Idaho. We have so many outdoor opportunities year round. We have four solid seasons. The winters are awesome for snow shoeing, skiing, and hot cocoa. The springs are awesome for all green thumbs, hikers, and bikers. The summers are endless camping nights and fishing fun. Fall is full of colors, crispy weather good for snuggling with your sweetie at a BSU football game (especially when we're whooping some Vandal butt). There is not a bad time of year to be here. Being able to step out my front door take a deep breath and not choke on the mucky air found in other places is so nice. I love outdoors Idaho. I can practically never complain about being bored.

Yeah...me too. I have lived in NY all my life and cannot wait till the day I can leave. OK, we have the Adirondacks, and Letchworth State Park....but I'd gladly give it up to live someplace warmer. I don't watch the Bills, never have, never will...so sports won't keep me interested in living here. Dh likes it cuz we have all 4 seasons. Big deal. I'd give up winter for a hot long summer anyday.

Texas...I love it!
A state where the word MILK (Mee-ulk) has 2 syllables and OIL ('ol) has one.

Yes we have Long-horned Cattle and oil wells, but for the most part you need to go into west Texas to see the bulk of them, although I've seen both pretty much all over the state. TRUE Cowboys, not so much, now they are on 4-wheelers and helicopters.

Rural Texas is very different from the "big city". Here (rural), when driving, if someone lets you into their lane, they wave thanks at you. If you are on a two lane black-top and someone wants to pass, you drive over the the shoulder to let them pass. (Again the wave) "Drive Friendly" really means something here.

In the big cities, i.e. Houston or Dallas-Fort Worth you need to go-with-the-flow in traffic even if it's 70+ on the Loop. I love it!

We are a loyal bunch. Don't Mess With Texas

I also grew up and lived on Long Island in Huntington til I got married 16 yrs ago. Wouldn't go back for anything. Yes, there are alot of nice things there but you have to wait in traffic for hours going or coming!!!! When I first moved here I couldn't believe we could actually go to something like a fireworks display that lasted 45 minutes and be home in our house 15 minutes later. No waiting for hours at Jones Beach parking lots!!! It's quicker for us to go to the beach in Rhode Island than to wait on the Robert Moses while the car overheats from idling!! No getting stuck in lunch hour traffic on 110 or rush hours on the LIE or Northern/Southern State. If it rains or snows here we can usually make it to work and home on time without leaving an hour earlier than usual. Can ya tell I STILL have traffic issues!!!! I still have friends on LI who wouldn't leave it for anything but I'm glad I'm here.
I also love the weather here. We get plentiful snow in the winter and blue skies in the summer, colorful autumns and a cool spring full of daffodils. My son will graduate with about 90 other kids, not 800 like I did. He knows all his classmates along with those in several other grades. We see assorted wildlife often and have bluebirds nesting in our yard. I am very pleased to be in NW CT!!
I'm comfortable walking around town in jeans and a flannel shirt and don't need to impress anyone. I love the small town atmosphere.

The change of the seasons another great reason I simply love New York.. Today we have a small dusting of snow I loved it. I for one could never ever ever live in a hot climate all year long..Do not get me wrong I have been to many Island on Vacation and simply loved the weather and the soooooo beautiful water, however thats vacation... I could not live everyday and work and do in a hot climate no way... Thank God New York is only really hot sometimes in July and August... Peace... CAtherine

I'm in northern Oklahoma. We have the four seasons, don't know if that's a plus, HOT, HOT summers, humidty. We have lots of wheat fields, oil fields/refineries, and flat land. I love that the cost of living is low here, but don't really have a lot to gush about. We're a relatively young state, just celebrated 100 years. This is where the Trail of Tears ended, Oklahoma meaning "Land of the Red Man", we have lots and lots of Indian reservations. Seems every city/town has an Indian name, which is cool. And lots and lots of casinos on tribal land. (Not a gambling fan).

I love hearing about all the other states!! I've always wanted to visit Vermont. I had an instructor who's from Wisconsin and she always had great stories to tell about living there, I'd like to visit there too.

Then when my ds graduated he had 157 and next year Caitlin right now has 138 so we also have a very small school district which I totally love.. Peace.. Catherine

I'm in Pennsylvania and the best thing is: PENN STATE FOOTBALL!

OK, there's also Groundhog Day-I LOVE it! I even make gingerbread Phil cookies to celebrate. Both my parents are from Punxsutawney so I've known about Groundhog Day my whole life.

And I like the fact that you can roughly make the shape of PA with your hand:

Hold your left hand in front of you, palm facing you and fingers pointing to the right.
Bend your thumb down so the tip of your thumb is at the base of your index finger.
Viola! You just made PA!

I live in Erie, which is the tip of your thumb joint, the highest part. My sister lives in Pittsburgh, which is about halfway between Erie and the bottom of your hand. Philadelphia is over near the tip of your pinkie.

I think our state motto should be: Pennsylvania, the state you can make with your hand!
