Sears has layaway

I just read this today and wanted to post it in case anyone is interested. I bet it's because of the economic mess.

I am sure it is because of the economy! I heard on the news today that layaway was originally started in the depression because of the hard economic times, the story was on stores bringing back layaway.

I wonder if Wal Mart is sorry they stopped layaway. They did a story here about Kmarts layaway and a few people said they usually shopped at Wal Mart but now have to go to Kmart for their layaway.

I've never used layaway, but have a question about it...

Sears has an item I want on their Black Friday list. If you put something on layaway and the price drops, can you go in and get it for the lesser price? Or call in, perhaps?

I ask because it's a large item and will require all of the space in our van to get it home... but we'll be two states away on Thanksgiving weekend, far away from a Sears. I'd love it if I could put it on layaway tomorrow (at the normal price) and the call in on Black Friday and pay it off over the phone at the reduced price, and then pick it up when we return home.

Kmart owns Sears, so that's probably why Sears has started layaway. I'm sure economy had something to do with it also.

That's an excellent question. Let us know what you find out!

It looks like you can!!!! I looked at their layaway policy online and although you can't put doorbuster black friday items on layaway it does say that you are entitled to a price adjustment within 14 days of the initial layway date. I don't know if you would have to do it during those special hours or if they would say it doesn't apply but they don't say it doesn't. THere are exclusions on what you can put on layaway though-appliances, computer, etc... I think I will print out the policy just in case there is something I want and I will have it with me on Black Friday to get it adjusted. Thanks for the good idea! I wonder if someone else will think of this and Sears will change their policy between now and then? lol
