Hi Cuthie - I don't hear it mentioned too often, but we like Rummikub - it's fun and challenging for both kids and adults......and inexpensive, too! My mom and stepdad turned us on to this one. Amazon.com: Rummikub: Toys & Games If you're looking for "edgier" games....look into those by Rio Grande - Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Race for the Galaxy, etc. cj/

I would love to buy "Pie Face". It's a game from the 60's that I loved. Would love to play it w/the grandkids. I did a Google search and found the original commercial on Youtube, but couldn't find anywhere to buy it. I already checked Amazon and Ebay. Any ideas???

We play a lot of Skip-Bo (card game), Apples to Apples, Scrabble, Monopoly, Life, Trivial Pursuit. My kids love to play a card game called Flux, though I've not played that with them. I can't find Pie Face for sale anywhere, though it does seem to come up from time to time on Ebay. Good luck! |

Thanks for looking Momshops! I forgot to add in my first post that my grandkids love the Uno that spits the cards at you. The kids are 10 and 15. There's a new Uno out that you have to play really fast. That may make an appearance here this Christmas.

What about one of the "themed" monopoly games? Our family has "A Christmas Story" and we love it. It has all the places/things from the movie in it and it plays just like regular monopoly. Now if we could just quit arguing over who gets to be the leg lamp......

Our family loves the Mexican Train Game. The great part about it is that once you get bored with it you can play other domino games without investing in more money into another game. We also like Rummikub.

I saw this in a magazine and it really looks like fun for kids and adults. It's Backseat Drawing. You explain to someone what to draw "make a line now on the end go up and to the left then make a circle" etc the other person has to draw it without a clue what you are describing. Sounds like hours of fun for the the whole family. Out Of The Box Publishing: Backseat Drawing

Not really a game but I just posted about this on another board. My kids love to do Mad Libs. I got them a book of them about a month ago and they loved it so much a picked up a three pack yesterday at Borders. My youngest that is playing is 5 and me and dh play with them too. And heck they are even learning while doing them!

I am major league stumped on DS1's Christmas this year.....I ended up ordering him a few games to balance the package count with his brother. The first one is rated well and has a solitary version - which I thought was nice. The second one I thought would be good for him and his two sports-obsessed roommates. Amazon.com: Quiddler: Toys & Games Amazon.com: Scene It? Sports Powered by ESPN: Toys & Games Anyone have experience with either of these? cj/

Apples to Apples is loved here, too. We also like Settlers of Catan and Spy Alley. We have a 5yo, almost 11yo and 13.5yo. The 5yo is on my team when we play the games that he's too young to play. We also enjoy good 'ole Clue, although my DH usually wins that one. Sometimes we like to play Disney Scene It. We really want to get Disney Scene It 2 because it probably has movies we'd all be more familiar with.peapie |

Interesting post. My girls are 12 and 10. Our favorites are still Apples to apples, scrabble, boggle and yahtzee. I had totally forgotten about rack-o, but remember playing as a kid every day at summer at camp!!! I am also considering tribond, clue and maybe RISK for christmas this year. My teenage neices and nephews will still play Scene It with my kids and have fun. Off topic, we are also getting some puzzles to do as a family, as our 12 y.o. is not really a game person. |

Another vote for Apples to Apples. It is easy for everyone to catch on, not alot of complicated rules. I also like Rummikub, we just played this on sunday! My daughter and her friends have been playing Last Word and Things. I know that after playing Last Word, several of the kids said they wanted to buy it. Have fun ![]() Last edited by new2me2; 11-26-2008 at 01:26 AM. Reason: spelling |

Pictionary Taboo Scattergories Apparently we haven't bought any new games in years I've never heard of Apples to Apples or Rummikub. Are they primarily children's games?.

We play Apples to Apples as a group of about 15 people at our annual family retreat. We generally include the 10 on up to 80 age group, LOL. We have an Apples to Apples Junior game that we also play if the under 10 age group decides to quit sniffing the pine trees or playing hide and seek and same thing, it is fine for any age... not just little ones. The words are just easier for the little ones to know the meanings of.

Okay! You all talked me into it. I found 'Apples to Apples' on sale this weekend for $10 and bought it. We probably won't get to play it until Christmas, when all the family is together. But, if nobody likes it, I'm putting the blame on you ladies.... especially Cuthie. (LOL).

Have to add Bingo! I have a neat Bingo game I bought on clearance a few years back at Restoration Hardware. We just played a couple of nights ago with guests, and the kids had a blast. I go to Five Below or the Dollar Store and pick up a bunch of prizes and they love it. Who knew winning an egg of Silly Putty or a Pez dispenser would be such a thrill?? |
