This is creepy-a classmate passed away.

Just a few days ago I posted on the thread on here about getting old. I said I don't sweat birthdays anymore because I'm just glad to be alive and glad that I'm not listed on the memorial section of our reunion book. I just logged onto my hometown newspaper and read that another person has passed away! For some reason this one really bothers/surprises me. She was living in New York City, married, an actress/theater person and was also a cheerleader and homecoming queen candidate in high school. She was smart and really pretty with long blonde beautiful hair! Not sure why this one is hitting me kind of hard but I thought I'd post it to reinforce my theory about being grateful to be alive! I guess it's just the timing on this one-so close to my talking about it.

I think it is always hard when you see that someone your age dies.

At our class reunion there were several who had died over the years.

Yes. This is the same age my dad was when he died too so that's kind of a double whammy. I counted my last reunion directory (30the reunion) and over 20 had passed away at that time. My 35th reunion is next summer.

My college freshman roomate died about four years ago -- that was a complete shock to me. I found out about it in our alumni magazine. We had been very close in college and then lost touch a few years later. Even though I hadn't seen her since about 1984, I still cared very much for her and her death hit me hard. I still have a hard time accepting the fact that she's gone.

It's always hard when you're faced with your own mortality and I think that's what's disturbing you. A friend's death (especially a friend who's close to our age) reminds us that we could be next. I think the only think to do is try to use our time wisely so that when it is time to go, we have few regrets.

We've lost a few already. I think for quite a few of them there was some prep-cancer, etc... I think it's the "52" that hits harder. I've always thought I would die young because so many of my relatives have so I think I faced the mortality thought process a long time ago! Never even had those "Ilm invinceable" teenage years that most kids have! You are so right that we need to live each day to the fullest because we have no promises for tomorrow!

Yes, it is very creepy when you find out someone your same age or younger dies.
Just last night I read in the paper that a guy who I was in elementary school with has died. He was my same exact age.
Several months ago a gal who I ran around with in middle and high school died. We were close for many years (there were 4 of us altogether) well into adulthood. We had lost touch in later years.
I have had quite a few more friends/aquaintances die in the last several years who were my ahe or younger.
I guess it just makes me thankful that I woke up this morning and that I can wake up each morning for quite a few more years.

One of my classmates from high school died a few years ago. She was in her late 30's. Driving a car, reached for a sandwhich, and went down an embankment. She always dressed VERY nice in high school...she was a real beauty..green eyes I remember ( she was Black )...

she was very snippy and mean spirited in school though..and had a sharp tongue..I was sad to read of her death..even though she was not a very nice girl in high school.
