My hands look like my mothers!! It hit home when I saw a photo of my hand and I said, "What is my mother's hand doing in that picture?" Ha ha. Honestly, I'm not too much like her. Sad to say I have consciously tried really hard to be different from her. I am more like my dad and extremely proud to admit that! |

I am trying really, really hard NOT to be like my mother in some ways -- in other ways, I want to be like her. It's funny -- my mom swore she would NEVER be like my grandmother (her mother) and every day I see her doing more and more things that my grandmother did that drove my mother nuts. I have to laugh to myself about it. I still haven't gotten up enough nerve to point it out to her -- not sure I ever will.

I have spent my life NOT being my mother. She can be very petty and mean and that is something I try very hard to avoid, I also thank my MIL for teaching me how NOT to be a MIL. My DHs grandmother is the woman I strive to be.

I also have a lot of things about my mom that I am trying not to be and/or that I swore I would never do when I was younger....but still find myself doing. You guys that are followign through and breaking the cycle are great!! How do you do it? cj/ who finds herself glaring at people's crunching food at the dinner table....just like my Mom.

Every time I catch myself saying, "you people" to my dh and kids! I never realized my mom says this until my sister pointed it out to me. I also say "be careful" any time one of them leaves the house -- just like my mom.

My mother always made/makes a little high pitched "Hmmmph!" sound if someone swears, makes a rude noise, or says something inappropriate. I always used to cringe when I heard her "subtle" little vocalization. I thought it was so uncool. Now I hear myself doing an identical noise for the same reasons as my mom. So uncool am I!

For me I am not like my mom at all.. I am my fathers daughter all the way... My mom has black hair is olive colored skin speaks with a accent. I am one of five children I am the oldest and the only girl. Out of us I look so much like my dad who is 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Norweign. I am very fair skinned, light brown hair. And I totally totally have my dads personally, which to my mom always bothered her because I was her only daughter. However from my mom, I was very very skinny like her and always suffered so much with my period and migranes and now have developed Diabeties from her.. Which none of my 3 surviving brothers have.My mom always smoked and drank coffee and liked to gamble, play cards and poker. If anything I could have been my late mil's daughter again so same personally. But again I have children 2 dd;s and one son.. My son is my twin and my dd;s are my husbands twin.. Peace.. Catherine

I wanted to add or ask any of the ladies here , did it ever bother your mom that you as their daughter was not like her your mom. Cause when I was growing up it bothered my mom alot. However now that my mom is so sick all the time and 76 age as mellowed her and now she tells me that she was sorry, that she was upset with me because she would always tell me your just like your father, your my daughter however your nothing like me.. Now as she is older she has seen it so much in my dd;s who while they are both skinny in frame and they have my small hands and feet, they look so much like my dh. I have had this discussion with my mom many times and often tell her, there was nothing I can do ,you come into this world not knowing whom you are going to look like or resemble. I guess in my moms views when you have 5 children and only one is a daughter you kinda feel you want your only daughter to look like you be just like you. Does anyone else here gone through this. Also another question do you think in your views that dd's resemble their dads more and ds resemble their moms more. Just a thought . A great post.... Peace... Catherine

I see my mother every time I look in the mirror - I am her spitting image and have been all my life. Recently i was looking thru her old pictures and the only wya you could tell if it was me or her was by the eyar on the photo (pre 1965 is her). Oh and you know that clearing of the throat before they speak mothers do? yeah caught myself doing it the other day. I do try to NOT copy some of her bad traits. |

As my mom gets older she gets more critical and voices her objections to anything that she does not like, approve of, etc. - even little everyday stuff that you should just "let it go". Unfortunantly I find myself starting to do that.

I hate to admit it, but I have my mom's body. Ugh! I remember seeing her in a bathing suit as a kid and thinking I hope I don't look like that when I get older. Oh well. ![]() I do strive everyday not to be the mean spirited woman that she is. I think I've done pretty good so far. |
